I didn't appreciate the "nickle and diming"; the final price was almost 3 times what was advertised with all the added fees and taxes etc. They should be far more transparent with the final cost to the customer. Staff are upselling to the benefit of the business and not necessarily that of the customer. I was offered a transponder but after closer inspection it would have been cheaper for me to pay for the tolls. This was very disappointing; I recommend better training and customer sensitivity workshops.Reviewed Mar 27 2024

The pickup experience was horrendous, took almost 2.5 hours. The initial check-in line was extremely long. Once check-in was completed and instructed to go to lower floor to pickup car, you had to find an employee to put your name on a waitlist. The system was chaotic and unorganized. The entire process took 2.5 hours, I was late to meet friends for lunch and delayed my entire schedule. I was only in town for a night and required me to make alternate arrangements. Lastly, I was billed incorrectly and charged for refueling, even though I returned it at the same level I took the car.Reviewed Feb 1 2024

My experience with the TAMPA AIRPORT DOLLAR RENTAL HAS BEEN UTTERLY DISGUSTING. They put me and my mother in a 2018 Nissan Rogue when here we are a few weeks shy of 2024. When you turned the wheel it made a horrible sound, the charging ports didn't work, the trunk didn't open and when you were at a stop light or idling it would shake and sputter. So I decided to drive 45 minutes back to the airport to get something better. Upon doing so they seemed to be annoyed with me. So after feeling that way I didn't want to complain when the car they exchanged with REEKED LIKE CIGARETTES. Me and my mother decided to just go buy some air fresheners and deal with it. We never mentioned the smell and now I 100% regret it. A few days after returning from Vacation I check my credit card and notice they charged me $400 dollars. I call customer service and am told I was charged that for a "cleaning fee for smoking in the vehicle" so I am now in the process of trying to dispute this charge. I have asked several times to see the notes from the previous person that rented the car to see if it was noted about it smelling like smoke and was told they aren't allowed to give me that information. Had the choice of picking which vehicle I would like to drive. The Nissan Rogue that I was given had 54,000 plus miles and shook when driven above 60 miles per hour. It had a number of door dings which concerned me before I drove off the lot. The attendant was helpful in reassuring me that none of the blemishes identified would register as damage that I caused when returned.Reviewed Nov 15 2023

Pros:This was the worst experience I have ever had with a car rental company. The associated who was to help us, didn't. He not only gave me information that was never shared ahead of time, but then when we pushed back he just said "Do you want the car or not". I have never been treated that way. We left and went to Alamo and received the best experience ever. We even were given a much cheaper price.Cons:Do not use Dollar. I observed them treating other customers the same way. One associate was even speaking to friends while trying to help another customer. Those customers just walked away. Such poor customer service.Reviewed May 28 2021

Pros:Drop off was easy.Cons:There was one agent working on a Saturday afternoon so the line took 1.5hrs to get to the rental counter. Once we got to the counter, the agent told us where to pick up our car and that someone would meet us there. The area he directed us to for our car was empty, no cars. When we finally tracked down what we thought was a clean car and someone to us it was another 25 minutes. While leaving the garage we realized the car was not clean at all. There was trash on the floor, sand on the inside of the doors and pieces of food all over. The check out person didn’t seem to care. As we left the rental car center and proceeded to get on the highway the car started shaking severely at 45 mph. I called Dollar to let them know about the cleanliness and the shaking. The first agent I spoke to told me to fill out something online about the cleanliness that didn’t exist. She then transferred me to someone else. I waited another hour on hold to explain the shaking issue primarily so I wouldn’t be responsible for the damage. No one ever answered. Pros:The car was clean and well maintained. Being offered a choice of vehicles was great.Cons:We were not informed of Florida Toll road processes. Since we did not set up toll road options when renting we were unable to use FL tolls without added expense. We also were told we could not add a spouse as an additional driver without an added fee. That was very annoying. It was clear the individual who checked us in hated his job and the customers he was helping.Reviewed May 13 2021
