We arrived at a busy time. Several events were going on, but none of them affected our stay. The room was immaculate, the furnishings were a cut above the expected, and the bed was very comfortable. We were impressed with the food and the service. I especially appreciated the excellent heating/cooling system. It was very quiet and easy to adjust. This was the best hotel we stayed in on a long vacation.
The carpet in the room needed to be cleaned. The bed was very comfortable and linens very nice in both bedroom and bathroom. The staff was very accommodating and I would recommend the hotel to others.
The accommodations in this hotel are very nice. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. This hotel is a short cab ride from the UAB campus. I would stay here again.
Stayed here the staff was very helpful and friendly. Room very clean and comfortable.
Overall, my room was clean and newly renovated. However, I found myself in 'The Twilight Zone' soon after my stay. They agreed to split the charges and place half on my co-workers credit card and the other half on my credit card. We both received receipts upon checkout, which had the correct charges; however, when I received my credit card statement they charged my card twice (on two different dates). I talked back and forth to them and their corporate office but they failed to admit fault or refund my money. They claimed that they only charged me and I would have to get my co-worker who shared the room to contact them to authorize the removal of this amount, so they can place that half on her credit card. HOW CRAZY DOES THAT SOUND?! They pretended not to have her contact information although I stood right there when she gave them all of her information plus her credit card--not to mention she received a receipt from them. I eventually, filed a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they still responded that they stand by their decision not to refund my money. I was furious because by then I had my credit card statement and my co-workers statement to prove that we were both charged. After threatening to seek legal action, they finally removed the charges from my account. I WILL NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN. They are incompetent with extremely poor customer service. They refused to admit fault, kept making up excuses for why I was charged twice, and were determined to make me pay for their mistake. I was extremely disappointed and would never recommend this hotel for that reason alone.
We had a lovely view of the a/c units out the window, and a remote control that no matter what button you pushed would only change the channel down (big inconvenience). You would think for a $*/night hotel, they would have a remote that worked and free parking. Very disappointed and definitely would not stay here again. Stayed in a Comfort Suites on the way for $80/night which was a lot nicer.
My room was fine, but you might not be so lucky. The hallway in other areas of the floor where I stayed weren't clean and smelled quite bad. Also: my room commanded a view of the atrium, with no exterior views. I didn't know this was a possibility, and certainly wouldn't have chosen it had I known.\n\nThe staff wasn't rude, but they weren't helpful either. I was struggling with more than usual baggage when I checked in, but no one at the door offered to help me. I was given poor directions to my room (don't laugh?it's a very large facility!), told there was no drugstore within walking distance when there was, didn't get more coffee or bottled water in my room after the first night, had to pay for slow internet service in my room...these are not terrible things, but at the price, I think a traveler should expect the niceties to all be in place. And had I been unlucky enough to have a room in the dirty areas...\n\nI can't recommend this hotel to people visiting Birmingham.
I booked this place with an expectation that at close to $* per night that I would get quality on par with the price. In reality this hotel is poorly maintained and dirty. There are groups of people who like to hang out in the atrium until 230 AM and the sound will actually carry all the way up to the 16th floor. The room was at the level that I would expect at Motel 6, which is a disapointment when you consider the costs. The room had furniture that looked as if it had been in the room since the opening of the Hotel over 30 years ago and it was in the expected condition, scuffed and shabby looking. The bathroom floor looked very dirty and nasty, and it was obvious that the hotel has only had minimal updates since it opened decades ago. The reason this place is so disipointing is that you expect far more from a hotel of this chain, and to be blunt, you get far less than cheaper hotels here. For this price, I will either stay at the Marriot or the Galleria next time I am in Birmingham, If I want something on parr with this hotel as far as quality, I'll save money and stay at a motel. After staying here I felt incredibly cheated, fortunately I was fortunate to have decent company otherwise, the stay would have 'sucked'...I will never stay here again.
Hotel was all good in my eyes, I have grips about it. Maybe they could have had a few more channels to choose from but other than that everything was perfect!
I stayed at this hotel for two nights this week, i was there on business. Real disappointing for a sheraton. Said my room was non-smoking, but it smelle like smoke. Hotel in the middle of the ghetto.
We stayed here on our wedding night and we enjoyed it very much. The resturant was open utill 1am.The room was very clean and nice. the person that complained about the luggage tote your own luggage that is lazy GOD gave you two hands use them.we will stay here again.
This hotel is so big that by the time you make your way around it you won't have any energy left to see Birmingham. The dining options though are very limited and VERY expensive. I had room service once--pasta with meatballs, side salad, diet coke and a piece of cake--and the bill was just over $50!!!! The main restaurant is acceptable, even quite good, but very expensive. The only other option is a sports bar. There is also one small cafe but it is never open. For a hotel that holds about a billion people, these options are far too limited.
The bed is the only positive thing about the hotel. I stayed at the hotel twice. For the price of this hotel you dont get you pay for. You have to pay for internet access, valet, and a lot of other things that are not included in the room. The parking garage is too far away.
It was a bizarre entry..the valet parker left my car there for an hour, and the doorman never would open the door...he just stared right at me as I hobbled in with suitcases....never moving. Every time I passed him, he just stared like a bouncer...they had security behind him, so it wasn't a bouncer, but it was wierd. Great hotel for concert stays, though! And the bed was perfect. Everyone else was very nice and professional.
This hotel leaves MUCH to be desired for a traveling family! I brought 3 kids to the hotel after traveling for 10 hrs. and had to HIKE with luggage from the parking garage. Then wait 1.5 hrs. for room service!!!
There for a 4 day conference stay. Housekeeping staff needs to be retrained, carpets filthy, garbage cans unemptied, glasses not replaced, internet access unavailable due to construction. 1 computer available for entire guest population located at the guest check in counter. Best thing was the shuttle back to the airport!'
After the Eric Clapton concert, it was about 10:40 p.m. and there was only one restaurant opened at the hotel. All other local restaurants are 20 minutes away, so unless you eat nachos at the concert, you will go hungry at night. Even a Starbucks in the area, that was open after the shows, would be nice.
stayed twice at this hotel, both times I watched the evening front desk treat guests quite rudely. Will be staying at other places in the future
Enjoyed my stay. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the restaurants were open until 12:30 am, making it easy to grab a quick bite after a late evening out. Waited over 10 minutes for an elevator at least 4 times. Considering it's a lobby of 5 elevators, I believe it is an issue that needs to be addressed. Rooms were clean and the staff was friendly.
The front desk clerk needed a personality check. It is always a pleasure to be greeted by a smiling face.
I had hoped that things would have gotten better over the past year...but they haven't. They got worse. The elevators were horrible and couldn't use the stairs (what about a fire?)
