Located in the old Chartres, in the city center next to the l'Eure, the residence de Chartres features peaceful self-catering apartment. The apartments are all well equipped with TV and cooking's equipment. A charming patio is between all the apartments.
This self catering flat is spacious and very quiet. The location is excellent, very close to the centre of Chartres and on the river, which is lit up at night in the summer months.
To begin with, we arrived at the allotted check-in time to find it all locked up and empty. There was only a small tatty sign that we eventually noticed on the wall through the window. We rang the number on the sign and were told we had to go right across town to collect a key. We did not have any transport. Eventually a member of staff agreed to bring the key to us, and arrived over half an hour later. Not a great start! As soon as we entered the flat we were hit by the musty smell of the place. Even with open windows, and when we burned incense later in our stay, the smell did not go. The overall appearance of the flat was dark and slightly grotty. Some of the cutlery and crockery were dirty, as was the fridge. The bed uncomfortable too.
