I set my pick up time for 6pm on Kayak which was confirmed. I was on a layover in Denver when Enterprise called me and said that they would be unable to create my agreement if I were to arrive at 6pm as their system shuts down at 6 sharp. My flight landed at 5:50 and I would have been there at 6:05. They absolutely refused to do anything to help and I ended up having to cancel. There were literally 0 cars available at any of the rental agencies at the airport or Uhaul. I ended up having to rent a Home Depot van for my trip as it was the ONLY option besides a Tesla for $985 per day on Turo. This was a terrible experience and I will not be using Kayak to book anything in the future as you are clearly out of touch with your suppliers.

Ordered a compact vehicle and when I arrived all they had was an old big truck - let them know that I have never driven a truck and the employee looked at me and didn’t say a word. When asked if they had a different t vehicle I was told NO

The drop off was super easy.

Cons:

I think I was fooled into paying that ~$23 for a car with gas. I did not use very much gas at all in the <24hrs that I had the car and the gas prices were so cheap in Michigan. I honestly probably used less than $8 worth of gas. I am from California so I did not know any better, I guess.

Pros:

Fairly easy access and drop off. Got a nice car at a reasonable rate and staff was capable and friendly.

Cons:

Only wish drop off access was after passenger drop off area so you would not have to drive around the airport loop after dropping off luggage and other passengers.

Sharing the same counter space with another rental company...the other brand had a huge back-lit sign and Alamo had a small square sign placed atop the other sign that you had to know was there to see if you are new to this airport and were looking for the Alamo rental counter.

The car was very clean, but I had a couple issues with it: 1. The headlights seemed to be really poorly aligned. I could barely see anything at night unless I turned the high beams on, and that's pretty annoying/potentially dangerous. 2. I was driving on a wet highway in the winter. The road had a lot of salt on it, and it was constantly being kicked up onto the windshield. The wiper fluid that Avis uses must be really cheap, because it froze up in the lines and wouldn't spray onto the windshield. I had to constantly pull off to wipe the windshield manually so that I could safely see while driving. Dangerous! Also, I was in a position to return the car early, but I wanted to know if it would cost more to do so (due to having had a discount for renting over a longer period initially). I called Avis for info about this twice, and both times I got turned away. They said that they could only show me the price *after* accepting the car back. These people do this every day; surely they should have an idea of whether or not it'd be more expensive. In the end, while the car was clean and relatively cheap, my overall experience with my rental wasn't a good one. Based on this experience, I'd be hesitant to return to this Avis/Budget location.

Pros:

I arrived before the rental center opened to pick up my vehicle, which was reserved several days ahead of time. I was to pick up at the 9 am opening. I was told by the counter person my vehicle was not there yet, and I would need to wait. She was very nice, to be clear. Then, after waiting for 20 minutes, I was told by the same woman that my car (a special 12-passenger van needed that day for a family trip) could not be found, and no one at any Avis ops center could help, and/or did not return her calls or texts. I continued to wait while she made calls as line volume permitted. She finally learned that the previous renter had not returned the vehicle and I would have to wait until at least 11. I asked for a substitution and got little help, so I walked down the street to Enterprise and they had the vehicle I was looking for, with a price match. After a 90 minute wait that meant missing other pickup appointments and delaying my family’s trip for nearly two hours, I was on my way - with a van from a competitor. Thanks for nothing, Avis. I will be going down the street to Enterprise from now on.

When I ask for any discounts they should've said yes 40%..that's on your web page..I was given no discounts..they never answered phones put me on hold 5times..hung up more than 5times on me..or didn't answer phone at all..shock they couldn't make a rental for10days cheaper

Since we booked with Kayak for the GRR airport we assumed the car would be at the airport. The car was offsite at a location with no shuttle which also closed at noon which was when our flight arrived. After standing in line at the airport desk for 20-30 minutes the clerk told us we had 20 minutes to make it to the other site before it closed... they were off by an hour. So after taking a cab to and back from the closed site we had to rebook a car. Which made us late to our destination. Which made me look irresponsible. Pretty bad experience all around.

Our experience with budget could have been better in the following areas; the van we rented was dirty when we received it. The van needed new shocks/struts and was a very bumpy and unpleasant ride. The van needed an alignment and was pulling to the right the entire time we were driving which made for a very unpleasant and difficult driving situation. We were not very happy with the quality of the vehicle and sincerely hope no one else has to have the experience we did. Hopefully this helps in making things easier and smoother for people renting forward. Thanks so much.

The clerk would not take our debit card. She needed a hard copy of a bank statement or utility bill. Luckily we had a branch of our bank locally but we are from WI and were attempting to rent in MI. Very unsatisfactory experience.
