Cons:

The truck smelled like the last users did nothing but smoke marijuana cinstantly for thousands of miles, and it was very unclean overall. I had to clean all the glass, wipe down surfaces, and vacuum.

I had to cancel my flight due to covid. I couldn’t access my car rental info to cancel it. There were no email to let me know prior to my cancelled trip. I hope I’m not being billed for it. Thank you Forrest

Unfortunately, I couldn't get the rental car. My chip on my card wasn't working for some reason. HERTZ didn't have other alternatives , such as, tap or swipe or manual entry. So I had to cancel.

We didn’t get the car we reserved because they ran out of cars. How did that happen?

I had to exchange cars when first one had a tire failure. Exchange process was unpleasant due to agent’s manner and attitude. Renting location had no spare tires other than those in the cars; agent wanted to use that spare and send me out without a spare in the original car. First car had been poorly cleaned inside. Second car, which had not been serviced, was cleaner inside than first. Battery in fob of second car was almost dead (car gave warning); location had no spares; agent initially refused to substitute battery from a similar car not then in use; finally relented. That battery went low two days later. Substantial extra charge for an additional driver is a very offensive ripoff; it should be immediately eliminated. All in all, this was the poorest rental car experience of my 50 years of renting cars…and that is MANY rentals. Hertz is no longer a viable option for me and my companions.

I did not have a good customer service experience. Hertz did not tell me that the car would not be available at the airport. An hour before my pick up time I had called and the agent told me that I had a 24 h grace period. However, when I got there there was no car and the agent wanted to give another vehicle at 287 a day, which was 200 dollars more than what I had spent for the total 2 day reservation. In addition, Hertz send me back to the third party which send me back to Hertz, and no one was able to help me. I am calling my bank to cancel the transaction.

Having to pick up the car at a different office (not the airport) was a hassle. Going through Herz directly was nearly twice the cost, so I went with Kayak, not noticing that it was because it was at a different location. Being able to switch locations would have been better.

Long lines in Portland, overcharged, confusing that my car wasn’t at airport, expensive, and gas refill is crazy. The staff were friendly and the Portland guy gave me a nicer car for having to pay $200 more

First car they tried to rent me had a huge gash in one of the tires. Second car they gave me got a flat tire the first day I had it, in normal driving conditions. Best part? No spare tire in the car so I had to wait THREE HOURS on the side of a random road for a tow truck to come get it, then had to go to another Avis to get a replacement car. When I got there the people who worked there had no idea I was coming or needed a car. So they gave me a dirty (not cleaned since the previous renter had it) shitty Mazda that got 22 miles to the gallon and had a sticky accelerator. I will never get a car from avis ever again.

Car was better than expected, we were excited to get a hybrid. I was happy to change the location of drop-off without a fee, getting us closer to the airport. Overall experience exceeded my expectations.

In Portland at the pick up they were understaffed and the man could handle it but with barely had any time for customer service. He was short, he had me doing some of the stuff alone as far as checking the car over, no time for questions and really seemed to just want you out the door. He even hit a pole with a truck he was pulling around. He needs help!

The car was nice. Check in was slow, slow. Turning in car in Lewiston was a shot in the dark. Fortunately the Avis clerk helped us. Tried to change the reservation and that was like talking to a clerk in India with very little information at hand.
