First time at this hotel. Custer is a wonderful town in a great location to explore the sites of the Black Hills of SD. Had a little difficulty with parking as we overlapped with the beginning of the 2012 Sturgis Bike Rally. But the hotel clerk helped us out with a space.
My husband and I spent two nights at this hotel while visiting Mt.Rushmore. There are MANY hotels in the area from which to choose. We were so happy with our decision to stay here. EVERYTHING about this hotel is 'top of the line.' The staff was very cordial and most accommodating. The free breakfast has lots of choices. This hotel also has a lovely back patio where you can sit out to enjoy the cooler evenings. If you're lucky, you might even see a deer or two.
The employees were friendly, and the property, being quite new, was in geat condition. Spacious room. Bathroom lighting was not my preference. Too low intensity. The quality of the main breakfast items was typical of what I usually find--not much to brag about. But, the juice, yogurt, & fruit (& maybe muffins) are always a great grab & go for the car to the trails. Not much commotion this time of year, so deer were in the back yard at dusk. Enjoyable fire pit & waterfalls also in back.
EVERYTHING ABOUT OUR STAY WAS WONDERFUL!
This hotel sets the standard of how every Holiday Inn should try to be. It is clean, smells good, has a great staff and has beautiful landscaping around the building. They were booked solid each day we were there and yet they provided personal service that never felt rushed or rude. Our room looked out onto the north side where they have installed a waterfall into the side of the mountain. The sound of it was very relaxing when we opened our window. I've stayed at several other Holiday Inns before that were horrible, so I didn't have high hopes for this one, but it was so nice it really surprised me.
We were very happy with the hotel. Actually surprised with how nice it was for the price. The room was clean, spacious. Our rollaway was brought up to us quickly. Any other requests were handled immediately. The breakfast was much better than we have experienced elsewhere. Hot dishes along with continental it was very nice. The pool and hot tub was clean. Did run out of towels but as soon as someone called the front desk, it was handled. Really, we had no complaints, very happy. Quiet. No one running down the halls.
The front desk clerk was a little bit distracted answering phone calls when I checked in, but when I got to my room she called to apologize! and ask if I needed anything. Really nice, unexpected touch. Rooms are on par with another hotel I stayed at the night before. HUGE bathrooms with soaking tubs are a welcome site after a long day of riding the Mickelson trail. Custer is a great location within the Black Hills - easy drive to Mt. Rushmore and a good pizza place downtown. Looking forward to staying here again!!
The staff was courteous and helpful. The room was nice and comfortable. The continental breakfast was great with lots of choices - even for a picky 2 year old. The swimming pool was nice and family friendly. Even though it is a bit of a drive to the Rapid City attractions, it is only a short drive to Crazy Horse, Mt. Rushmore, and Custer State Park. Definitely would stay again!!! We stayed at an AmericInn in Rapid City after staying at the Custer Holiday Inn Express and we wanted to come back to the Holiday Inn - a much higher quality place for about the same price.
The room was reasonably priced and very close to the major attractions in the area. The continental breakfast was pretty much above average but being southerners we were somewhat disappointed that thy didn't offer grits. The weather was atrocious with two major snowstorms in early Oct. The road crews had the parking lot cleared in no time. Really would recommend this hotel. 1 to 10 I would say about a 8 when judging hotels in that same category.
Great place to stay. Very nice hot breakfast. The hotel is new, clean, quiet, the stuff is friendly. The only minus is - we think the price too high for the location, even considering the pick of the season. We payed $140 and I'd pay $100 max! Other then that - it's great place to stay!
