This is a beautiful little hotel but the best thing about it is the staff. They were so helpful and kind that they really made our stay perfect. The canal off the back of the villas is breathtaking and you can snorkel right there! We rented a car to get around, and although we got lost a lot, it was a great way to see what Grand Bahama had to offer. We will be going back to Dundee Bay the first chance we get.
We were here for a little over a week and I will go back the first chance I get. The beach, just a short walk away, is the most beautiful I have ever seen. Our room was spacious, had a great little kitchen where we cooked all our dinners, a simple, clean bathroom, and a balcony. The air worked really well too when we had had enough heat and sun for the day. This is the perfect place to go if you are looking for a true vacation. Keep in mind it removed from everything else - no stores or restaurants next door or anything like that - which is exactly what we wanted! Few people on the beach, away from all the crowds and the kids at the resorts, and Howard, who BBQ's on the beach will make you the best lobster you've ever had.
Furnished nicely, very small, quiet and private, off the beaten path, no traffic here at all. Beach is steps away and you will most likely be the only one on it. They provide beach chairs, toys, etc for the guests to borrow. Stacy, the manager is very helpful and nice. Unbeknownst to me, she upgraded me to a huge 3br suite with jacuzzi tub, when I had only paid for a 1br. Why? Simply because she thought I would appreciate the ocean view from there, since I had come in from California and most of the others staying there were locals. Well she was right, it took my breath away. Thanks Stacy! The units have kitchens, but you really have to bring or buy everything food-related (mine didn't even have salt and pepper). There is no food on site except for a soda vending machine. You have to plan your shopping because the stores in Freeport are not well stocked and you may have to hit several places to buy everything you need. Grocery stores don't sell liquor, and most places are closed on Sundays. Stacy set me up with Queenie the taxi lady who took me all around to stock up for the week. She knows everyone in town, where to get the best fruit, bread, bargains. Thanks Queenie! You can walk to a beach cantina about 2 blocks away at the Xanadu. - they are really friendly and the food is great. The open air bar is open everyday for breakfast, lunch, dinner - 8am to ? even gave me a ride 'home' since I had walked over at night and then it started to rain! Thanks !
I choose this hotel because it offered an apartment like setting with a huge living room and kitchen. Every room opens to a patio/balcony in the front and back. There is a beautiful clean beach across the street that is usually empty. The manager S and the maid were wonderful. The office is only open 9am-7pm but the manager lives on-site. The hotel Xanadu is a short walk down the beach and offers cheap alcohol and good cheap local/American food. I love the out of town location because of the privacy and sense of security; the hotel is next to a gated secure condo complex. However, if you wish to be out and about doing tings it can get costly. The nearest grocery store will cost you $'* each way for a taxi ride and to get to Port Lucaya or Freeport its a $* taxi ride each way. I highly recommend renting a scooter for 24 hours, they only cost $* and you can ride them anywhere! One other downside was the weak wireless internet connection that would often drop out, that got frustrating. The house maid comes to refresh your linens every other day or so, this seems to be a common thing in the Bahamas. Not quite the standard we are used to in the states but it worked nicely. The kitchen and floors looked like it could use a bit of cleaning. Tried to use the jacuzzi tub in the bedroom, the drain was clogged by plant debris, not too thrilled. The pool area has 2 grills and an amazing view. There was some garbage/cigarette butts by the bar area which was also a turn off to me. Overall the stay proved to be a down to earth and relaxed experience.
The hotel was very nice and within walking distance of the beach. The room was great and the hot tube was nice. Stacey, the heotel manager was very friendly and extermly helpfull!!! This was a family trip and was undersided about renting a car. After talking with Stacey we decided to rent a car. With a two year old it made communicating easier. The car actual grants the freedom and the opporunity to travel the country side and go to different beach on the island. As much as we travel, it was the cheapest way to get around.
These are villas with balconies that overlook the canal. Beach access is across the street. Very clean and comfortable. Not on the bus route but the hotel across the street has a beach bus that you can catch to an area that you can catch the bus. I would definitely stay there again!
This hotel was like an apartment and made us feel at home. It was quiet and peaceful. There is a beach across the street and the canal behind it. I got some beautiful picture of the sunrise/set from the canal side. The only downside is the location in regards to getting places. You can take a taxi (which is expensive) or rent a car. The International Bazaar is a 30 minute walk and there are no bus stops near the Villa. If you want to walk to the bus stop to take it to other parts of the Island, you will need to go to the Bazaar. My recommendation is to take a public bus when you can, it is only a $1.00 to ride compared to $20 or more for a taxi ride. I will be staying here again. I enjoyed the peace and the feeling of home.
This place was awesome. Huge villas, nice pool and grill area. Beach right across the street. great sunsets. friendly staff.
Apartment style and very spacious, very friendly, helpful staff. Not super close to action, but with a rented car would be great. Nice beaches and nice neighborhood.
The Bahamas is very beautiful, and the beach in front of the resort was beautiful. The sunset outside was so lovely every night. We loved the staff and how helpful they were helping us around the resort. The rooms were very big and spacey. The pool made our vacation relaxing.want to come back again.'
