We liked Galena but the hotel was horrible
Beautiful environment, peaceful, so Midwest. Several great food options, enjoyed the one we picked. Bar entertainment on Saturday night was rocking. Love the walking trails. Probably walked 6 miles and didn't touch half of the available trails.
Would have liked a late checkout option. When we asked on check-in, the clerk seemed a bit put off by our request. We didn't pursue it any further as we just wanted a stress-free, relaxing stay.
When we arrived on Friday at 11 AM, I was the 9th person in line, with four more behind me. Waited in the line for over half an hour to check in. The room had no shampoo, conditioner or body soap. Just one bar of soap on the bathroom sink. Our daughter
Accomodations very good but was surprised with daily amenity fee at check out. Had not been previously notified of such. Negotiated it down satisfactorily but don't care for such surprises. Restaurant serves a delicious sausage and corn chowder. Room very comfortable. Staff quite pleasant. Excellent spot for a retreat from city and suburbia.
The cottage was secluded and had sufficient space.
The fire place didn't have adequate supplies and the lighting packet provided didn't work.
The grounds and setting along Lake Galena.
The amenities, pool, boats, bicycles. And, we liked the folks at the bar.
The villa has a decent size, clean & new kitchen appliances. The villa has a home feel to it.
The furnitures like the bed, couch, closets, bathroom, bedding sheets & some appliances are old & need update. There were a lot of boxelder bugs outside, clinging into the screen doors & screens, some of them get in the villa. Spider inside the villa.
The room description said it has a whirlpool(hot tub).Thats the only reason why I booked xxx/night room instead of the cheaper one xxx/night without hot tub. The room did not have a hot tub and I ended up paying xxx+tax extra for 2 nights.
You know, I loved the location. Rolling hills, a lake, woods, country club, lots of hiking, cute shops in town.
The main restaurant was overpriced for dinner
Eagle Ridge Resort and Spa is an excellent place to stay. The landscape is beautiful. The rooms are clean and spacious. The staff is very friendly, helpful and informative. There are dining areas in the main lodge, formal and informal. I had the breakfast buffet every morning and it was excellent and well priced. I did not golf on this trip but the courses looked beautiful. Galena is minutes away where there is much to see including historical sites, great restaurants and small shops of all kinds. This was a wonderful trip.
When we booked Eagle Ridge, we thought we were staying in the hotel. We should have known better since the price was higher, but we were in a one bed villa. I was a little disapointed, but the unit did not disapoint. The unit smelled a little dingy at the beginning, but nothing an air freshner couldn't fix. We had a fire place with wood and a fire starter, very helpful!! Living room and bed room had flat screen t.v.'s, a plus! For extra activities, we could have rented (for free) a bike to ride on the trails around the resort. The resort area itself is huge! Lots of hills and winding curves to get to the hotel itself. Eagle Ridge was about 10 minutes from downtown Galena. Fortunately, my gps directed us in a direction of a backround to Mount Hope Rd which got us to downtown Galena quick. They have 4 golf courses. We golf the North course, which was in wonderful shape for late October! We rented golf clubs from them, these were not complimentary. They had a good size swimming pool with a basketball net and basketball. They had a sauna and a steam room. I was suprised they did not have a hot tub, that would have been nice! After golfing we were hungry, stopped at the bar/restaurant and I had a burger, amazing! My husband had a grilled chicken sandwich, also very good! The fries were delicious as well. Didn't have the pizza. The breakfast buffet on Sunday was over $20 a person so we passed. They also have a spa, which we did not get to visit. :( Overall, nice experience, would definitely go back to the hotel. I don't know if we would stay in the hotel, since we didn't stay there this time (maybe to save a little money next time!).
Dark dingy room. Way overpriced. Long walk to get to room.
My wife and I booked a one bedroom villa at Eagle Ridge for New Year's Eve. It was a two story townhouse with two full bathrooms, a full kitchen (equipped with plates, glasses, silverware, and cooking utensils), living room, and fireplace. Our stay was brief, but it was very comfortable, roomy, and clean in the townhouse. Our only disappointment was the fireplace 'starter pack' they provided to start the wood fire. Wood and matches were provided, however the starter pack was useless in starting the logs on fire. Don't forget to bring your own starter log and some paper for the fireplace! Overall, we highly recommended the villas at Eagle Ridge and plan to return for another getaway.
