The simple guest rooms of this property offer a convenient base in the centre of charming Oostduinkerke. There is free private parking and many free childrens facilities. The accommodation of Hoge Duin is surrounded by dunes and provides individuals and groups with a comfortable place for a peaceful nights sleep. Start each day with a walk along the coast of the North Sea. Unwind with a drink on the sun terrace, while the kids have fun in the playground and giant sandbox. Not far from the beach and the marina of Nieuwpoort, you can easily explore the neighbourhood with a bicycle. At the restaurant, guests can opt for a 3-course meal while enjoying the panoramic views.
This is not a hotel it is really a hostel for parties of school children And therefore should not be sold as a hotel. Our room was never cleaned during our stay , the only thing the cleaners did was emtpy the bin , there was a vacuum cleaner left at the end of our corridor that didn't move for the duration of our stay.
The hotel seems to have no house keepers (cleaners).
Staff were friendly and helpful. Reception staff spoke good English. The room was very clean and there were plenty of towels, which is not always the case abroad. The hotel is very handy for the sea front, where there is a tram which goes all along the coast.
The room had two single beds, not the double we had booked. It appeared to be full of teenagers (a coach load were just leaving as we arrived but there still seemed to be young people everywhere!) and there was a lot of loud knocking on doors early in the morning. The bar was not 'cosy' but resembled a cefeteria with a billiard table and kiddies' play area. All the internal walls were bare breeze block. It felt like a student hall of residence rather than a hotel.
The friendliness of the staff, Clean, albeit small, rooms. Proximity to the beach. Free parking. Quiet, Lift
By the Hoge Duin staff's own admission this is not strictly a 'hotel' but is mainly used for school/educational groups and children's summer day activities. It does, however, provide some accommodation for other guests. We chose it for an economic 2 night stay to enable us to take our car for servicing. The restaurant provides only one meal choice per evening and closes about 20.15 pm. Breakfast was 9 Euros extra - probably adequate for the price but there was no hot food other than boiled eggs. Our comment below regarding recommendation would be that it is difficult to recommend for an extended stay but was adequate for our purposes.
bar staff very friendly and helpful, good hotel for large families. Rooms large and nice childrens playarea.
The location in comparison to the beach. It was only 2 blocks to the beach.
The information on the website was not very clear on the size of the room. We got a quadruple room thinking it for 4 people, but you could have slept 7. We would have gotten a smaller room if we had known.
Room decor poor, plain breeze block walls, felt a little like a prison cell! Paint would go a long way to improve 'feel' of room. Power tripped off 2 times in evening for periods of roughly 20 mins, then was off totally all night; resulting in no hot water in morning. Waited until after breakfast for water to heat-up; still only luke warm, not hot enough for shower, barely adequate for shave.
Breakfast was fairly good
Room very small concrete block walls. 2no very small beds, how can you shower with one hand continually on the push tap.On the second night the electric went off so no hot water for shower and shave next morning
-quietness of the place. Respect of the people. services in general
- not enough activities for the children such as a "club" - no proper bar to have a nice evening drink such as a "longe" -
The facilities for children were excellent, my son really enjoyed the adventure playground which is on site
It's good value for money given the location just next to the seaside resort of Nieuwpoort Bad and its facilities.
