We booked Aston at Poipu Kai based on photos on the web and brochures ... what we got was a place from the 70's or earlier ... mold, old, musty, miles from the beach, no view, nothing. After complaining to the 'person' on duty SEVERAL times, the manager who lives in Florida was called and we were given a 'villa' ... ha ha ha ... villa indeed ... more mold, no air conditioning, miles from the beach ... STILL NO ASTON AT POIPU KAI like in the brochures and web site. This was shameful. They kept saying they gave us such an upgrade with the 'villa' ... pleazzzzzzzzzze. This is a total misrepresentation and should be against the law. People pay good money to come to Hawaii based on the advertisement in the brochures and web only to find a total mess which is fixed by another mess ... and ... I am going to write this review on every site I can find so other people don't make the same mistake. May even let the HI Tourist Board know how misleading the Aston website is ... shameful.
This was our 2nd yr to stay at Poipu Kai. We were so happy that they fulfilled our request for ground floor and near the pool I have a knee problem and stairs are very painful for me. Everyone at the office is great and they work very hard to make your stay a great one. It has a huge pool which is hard to find in Hawaii. The grounds are immaculate, the rooms are clean and all the housekeeping and grounds maintenance folks are great and make sure you have what you need. When we return to Kauai next year we will be staying again with Poipu Kai. We took time to look at other properties in Kauai and none even came close to price or amenities. It was quiet and very comfortable, just a wonderful away from home experience. After the reservation is made and they get confirmation you can call the front desk to check on it and confirm yourself any needs, they were great.
No AC, hot, and really not a pleasant expeirence. Major construction in parking lot.
We enjoyed staying at this facility very much. It is close to ocean and very quiet. It is condo with full kitchen, washer and dryer.
It took two trips to Kauai to figure out this condo thing. First time, reserved with Suite Paradise. Had a great time, condo could have been updated and was far from the beach. This time went through Travel agency and booked with Aston at Poipu. I had emailed the headquarter of Aston and asked if we could be assured that we would have a quiet, clean (no bedbugs) and updated condo for our two week stay. They said they would relay the message. We have bugs in Minnesota but we try to keep them out of our houses. I know it has been very rainy in Kauai. Every night we spent most of our time swatting bugs . Tried cooking, only to see ants come crawling out of the range. When I called the desk she said'you want someone to spray'. The sheets barely fit the bed. The noise from other occupants was the biggest problem. I don't know how one average sized man can make that much noise. We knew everytime he came, went and moved from one room to another. It sounded like a two ton elephant. We had people on our right and left cooking and slamming cupboards. My advice is to book directly with the managing company and request a third floor corner unit. That way you MAY get the condo you payed for and a free bottle of wine to boot. Each condo in a building is owned individually and each condo is managed by a different managing company. We had a total of 12 units in the building we stayed in. The maid service included, consisted of a man coming once a day to change towels and empty garbage. Yet, we took a day trip to the Big Island and stayed at Aston Waikkola, nice condo, wonderful reception people.
Loved it for what it was...an older complex but clean and comfortable.Perfect location! If your worried or concerned about the decor being older...go outside, and enjoy good old nature!
We stayed here for 5 days of our honeymoon.. We had a wonderful time and we really liked the resort.. We'll be back!!!
We were in Building 7. The condo was very spacious but old and needs alot a work. The carpets, interior doors and walls were disgusting. Very dirty. I don't think the kitchen cabinets have been cleaned in 20+ years. The bathrooms were clean, new mattress in the master bedroom but couches and chairs were very uncomfortable to sit on. We would not recommend this unit to any family or friends. A big disappointment.
We rented a 2 bedroom/ 2 bath condo and the overall feeling of the unit was that it was fairly rundown. It could use some serious updating. The furniture looked shabby and the bathroom tiles looked like circa 1980 and the grout was really dark. Although the place looked old, it was clean. What we could not figure out was why the cleaning lady never stocked one of the bathrooms with a fresh supply of shampoo, conditioner, etc. We were there for 10 days. We liked the pool and the gardens were well maintained. The beach is about a 10 minute stroll away and it does have a nice baby beach. The place has ceiling fans which help keep the place cool. There is no onsite restaurant but there are several places that you can drive to that are worth it. We won't be staying here again.
We stayed at the ResortQuest Poipu Kai for five nights over Thanksgiving and had a wonderful time. These are condo units so upkeep can vary, but ours was very clean, nicely furnished and well maintained. No A/C but really never needed it. It is a large development and our unit was about a 5 minute walk to the nearest beach, but our lanai looked out onto a grassy, landscaped common area which was very pleasant. Our unit was larger than we expected - one bedroom w/ small walk-in closet, large living room, decent sized kitchen and dining nook. Poipu beach has good snorkeling and Shipwreck Beach (about a 15 minute walk from our unit) has good surfing/boogieboarding. Plenty or restaurants in the area, but most are expensive so it was nice to have the kitchen and be able to cook for ourselves as well. I'd recommend Poipu Kai for anybody who prefers a condo to a hotel room and doesn't mind walking a few minutes to get to the beach.
The view and location were great. They just have not updated this unit in 30 plus years. I don't consider myself to be too picky. The carpet and matresses stunk. The towels, toaster and microwave, washer and dryer were ok. Everything else was grimey, sticky, nasty as if it had been rented and nobody cleaned anything. The stove top was black with burned on stuff and none of the burners were even close to flat so you could cook. The shower was nasty with soapscum. We didn't even get in the pool because we looked into it at night and the water was nasty with hair and floaters. And there was a lot of construction going on. Luckily we spent so much time outside we had a great time. Even the room safe was dirty, really dirty. The curtains really stunk. This is not a 3 star resort.
We stayed here in 2002 and loved it, but this time, were assigned a unit that had never been updated in 20+ years, was so-so on cleanliness, and contained a horrible, old mattress that made it hard to sleep (and we are generally not particularly fussy people). Upkeep of units is left to the individual owners, apparently with no overall standards set by ResortQuest. Also, we were assigned an original unit next to (loud) construction, received no apology, and needed to wait three days to move to another unit (better location, no better on updates).
The condo was lovely, spacious and well-equipped; but no one warned us about the construction on both sides. It was continuous noise from 8:00 am til 4:30 pm, Monday thru Friday. We tried to move to another condo, but the desk couldn't do anything about it. We are very disappointed as it looks like construction will be going on for a long time!
Loved the place. The expansive grounds were well-manicured. Just walk the garden pathway and you're literally next to the beautiful Hyatt Resort. You can use the amenities at the Hyatt such as the restaurants and spa resort. We stayed in Building 3 at Poipu Sands and had an ocean view from the patio. Ceiling fans instead of A/C was okay. Access to 2 pools was okay. Will stay again here but ask for Building 5 next time for ocean front views. Awesome stay altogether.
This resort was great! everything you need for cooking was in the unit. You can get down to the beach from any unit in the complex within a 2 minute walk. Condo & grounds very clean. I couldn't have asked for anything more. Highly recommend!
