We generally don't spend a lot of time in our room, this hotel met all of our desires. The decor was a little dated, but very clean and well maintained. Our room was in the garden area, but just a short walk to the beach. We were on the third floor, the breeze through the room made for great sleeping.
We love Kiahuna Plantation. We stayed here years ago before kids and now we brought the kids who are 10 and 12. They loved it here too. It's not a posh resort, it can get noisy because a lot of families stay here. It is comfortable, neat and clean. A short walk from beautiful Poipu for beach time and snorkeling. You can get your beach chairs and towels right at the hut. The orchid garden is lovely, the grounds spacious. Enjoy having a full size kitchen for breakfast and a nice sized lanai to sit out on and enjoy the Hawaiian air. Like the shopping center across the street. Roy's restaurant is amazing and we probably spent way too much time and $ at Keoki's Paradise. Rent movies through Red Box at the Whaler's General Store for after dinner or take advantage of the free Wi-Fi at the Starbucks. We made ourselves at home for 9 days and would return!
My wife and I stayed for a week. The condo was clean and well-kept. Our condo overlooked a garden, about two blocks from the beach. We didn't mind the short walk to the water since it was through the lush garden. There is always a breeze and this makes the room very comfortable. We were on the second floor.I would recommend the second or third floor, both for the view and the cooling breeze. Enjoyable stay!
Room was clean, decent gym, we were upgraded to ocean view for no extra cost. staff was friendly. Facilities were adequate in every way, but given that Aston is half the price w/comparable accomodtions, it's hard to justify paying double. Bad thing was that other rooms on our floor wereing painted during our stay. Also, staff was secretly spraying some chemical bug spray without ever asking our permission to enter our room and so so. We happen to catch them in the process and insist they skip our room. That seemed shadey.
This is a great family place as there are very large open grassy areas where kids can congregate and play. It is right at the beach so not far to walk to the ocean. The staff is very friendly and helpful in organizing day trips and accomodating our needs. We did not venture too far away because we did not need to. Great restaurants adn shopping close by, but we chose to cook and barbecue at our condo. This greatly helped in keeping the expensive cost of a Hawaiil vacation down. I think this would be a great facility to organize a family reunion.
We loved the magnificent trees/flowers/esp the moir orchid gardens and large grassy areas by the ocean w/ a little shop that gave us lawn chairs and towels each day. The staff is very friendly and helpful and lots of shops and restaurants right across the street. Gorgeous setting, cozy place...we hated to leave. thanks so much for making a great package deal. The only negative was no hi-speed in the room but we could use computers by the front desk at 25 cents/minute to check out email.
The trip was great and I would return to the hotel; I would not, however, ever fly Alaska Airlines again as their staff was rude.
our first unit was wonderful. although come the 2nd night the unit above ours had a massive plumbing issue rendering our unit unsafe to use. the security man on duty immediately showed up to fix what he could and the front desk was ready to move us to a new unit immediately. being it was 1:30 in the morning we opted to wait until the morning. after looking at 2 other units we found an acceptable new unit and they tranfered us to another GREAT unit w/ a wonderful view of the ocean! the 2 concierges were absolulately wonderful and a huge help for finding local dives to eat at, and for things to keep us occupied. hubby wasn't fond of the lack of air conditioning, but come on!, its hawaii!!! just open the shutters and let the fresh air in....it was wonderful! the beds in both unit were more comfortable than ours and we hated to leave them. if we ever go back to kaua'i, we will be staying at this resort!!!
This is a good place for families to stay and enjoy the beach. It is not a quiet get away. The staff is friendly and helpful.
This was my first trip to to Hawaii and I couldn't have been happier to stay here. Got a nice little upgrade through a friend, but even without that the pricing was very reasonable for an apartment style suite. Full kitchens make me very happy and we got to try so much great food from local markets. Barely a hop and a skip to the beach tho it was great just sitting in the sun on our lanai too. The orchid garden is absolutely beautiful, the restaurant was good with a friendly staff willing to chat, plenty of local wildlife to see too. All in a a great place to make your getaway...
We just returned from a 1-week stay and would return to this resort in a minute. We had a 'garden view' and might upgrade to be closer to the beach next time. Beach outside the resort is great and better than some of the other resort beaches next door. Boogie boards came with the room. Fresh towels everyday without having to ask for them. Friendly (for the most part) staff, and conveniently located across the street from Poipu Shopping Center. Beautiful grounds, quite (except for the roosters), and buildings are set spaciously apart. I'm glad I did the research ahead of time. My travel agent also confirmed it was a great resort. We never used the pool and swam in the ocean instead. Several surfing companies are onsite and instruct right at the resort's beach. Check 'em out first before signing up as they are NOT all the same quality. Restaurant was so-so, which goes along with our experience of food/service being inconsistant on the island.
Check in was pleasant and brisk. Our Unit was in building 40 at the far northeastern corner of the property nearest the road, but really the traffic noise was not bad at all. We asked for a garden view unit, but were pleasantly surprised with a 3rd floor unit with a nice Lanai that looked out directly to Poipu Beach. The unit was beginning to show its age, but was clean and had a newer microhood and range. A couple geckos would emerge to kill mosquitos at night (buy bug spray). Two large quality gas barbecues were adjacent to the building for grilling. If you are a light sleeper you should bring ear plugs for the Chickens that run rampant on the island since Hurricane Iniki. They sometimes will start crowing shortly after midnight, but usually more like 3:30am onward. The staff were friendly at the Kiahuna Beach hut where you can get towels and beach chairs. This Beach is nice and it is a short walk to Poipu Beach Park for snorkeling, looking at the Monk Seals, and the 'baby' beach. We would get towels from the hut, visit other beaches (like Lydgate in Wailua) and return the towels later. Laundry was adequate at $* per 31 minute wash and $* per 60 minute dry. The parking spots were small, but numerous and close to the building. Poipu Shopping Village is across the street and slightly west and had a free Hula show on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5pm. The pool was too cold, but if you're here for the beach, this won't matter. 'Big Save' in Koloa, is the nearest grocery, but you might stop at Costco in Lihue. We would not come in January again as it rained too much, but it was still nice.
My family and I planned on staying at the Outrigger Kiahua Plantation Condominiums for a week in August 2010. We left after one night. We had reserved the most expensive full ocean view room and expected a well maintained unit with a beautiful view in a beautiful setting. What we got was a very expensive, but mundane unit with stained carpet overlooking a noisy public parking lot with the ocean beyond. After much negotiation with management we were relocated to another unit, this one overlooking the lagoon with a view of the ocean beyond. It was much quieter, however, in unacceptable condition. Although the unit had just been cleaned, it was very run down. Again, stained carpet; the master bath toilet did not flush properly; the ceilings fans were very noisy (within 10 minutes of entering the unit the upstairs neighbor requested we not use the fans, as the noise was so loud they could not sleep); the stove/oven had missing knobs, the 2nd bath shower door was broken, the towel bars were pulling out of the walls, the dining room chair seat was broken - you get the picture. All for nearly $*/night for a two-bedroom unit. The front desk staff did not seem at all surprised when we arrived at the desk the next morning with our bags packed ready to check out. I imagine we were not the first guests to leave a one week reservation after a single night's stay. To their credit, they charged us only for the one night's stay. Fortunately, there are much better accommodations within the same price range to be found in Poipu. After an unfortunately beginning to our trip, we quickly adjusted, relocated, and had a wonderfully relaxing time on the island.
We stayed in unit 9, room 46; pathetically out dated; original 1980s drapes, formica counters, rusted refrigerator, nasty shower, cockroaches. Make sure your unit has been updated, as each unit is individually owned; obviously some owners have more pride than others. Our gripe was we paid the same price for an inferior unit as our friends paid for a remodeled unit with granite, new appliances, fixtures, etc. We had a noisy location with construction next door at the Marriott. We will spend the extra money and stay at the Hyatt.
