Cool upper Manhattan neighborhood, near CUNY and down the street from the Alexander Hamilton house, fairly easily accessible by the C train. Friendly staff.

Poorly marked entrance, took me a while to get someone to come to the door.

Impeccable service, superb location, quality amenities and good onsite food and drink

We booked relatively short-notice, so per-night rate was pricey but equivalent to other similar nearby properties such as The Quin or The Warwick

Reliable WIFI, friendly front desk staff, and rooms were cleaned adequately by room service. Very accessible to subway station (5 minute walk to station and 15-20 minute ride to Times Square).

An additional bed cot costs an extra fee.

There was an issue with our bathroom and they fixed it promptly. In addition, whenever we asked for additional items (e.g. blankets or towels) it arrived in a fast manner.

Great price, very close to metro and easily accessible to manhattan.

This hotel should state it has limited on-site parking that must be reserved ahead of time (10 parking spots). I was told during check in I had to move my car out of the garage because my space had been reserved by someone else ahead of time.

The Surrey did everything to make my short stay in NY very pleasant. My room was beautifully appointed and lusciously comfy. It is pretty pricey but, well worth the cost. The only negative, was the $15/day internet wifi cost. Ridiculous for a hotel with such a billing per day. I would definitely recommend The Surrey.

When I arrived, I was given a free upgrade to a queen size room. I was prepared, given the other reviews, for a pretty small room, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was more than enough room for just myself, and the bathroom was spacious as well. I also really liked the toiletries (they smelled so good!) and the bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in.

Turning the shower to "high pressure" resulted in a very wet bathroom floor. I hadn't expected the lip between the shower and the bathroom to be so low! Additionally, I left my bag at the front desk the day I checked out, and I guess someone else's bag leaked something on mine? Or it's stored in the same space as they keep extra toiletries. The stain it left smelled a lot like the toiletries they give out. Unfortunately, I didn't notice it until I got home.

I paid $100 more on a discount pay upfront deal for this hotel than the Hilton and although Holiday Inn has micro & frig and the Hilton doesn't, the amenities didn't differ that much. The outlets had a mind of their own, the spread & bed runner had spots and we had a case of ants outside the hotel room with an adjoining room. The shuttle service seemed to be unkept, I always had to call several times to find out when the shuttle would arrive. Again, the best of service with the staff (aside from telling us that McDonald's was right next door when I called to reserve the shuttle for a ride), but I wouldn't come back to stay there.

Wi-fi was very slow, and there was one day were there was none. The concierge was not helpful and he lied to me. When I had to leave to the airport they offered me a car and they claimed it was as expensive as a yellow cab. I ended up taking the yellow cab and the price was way under what they were asking me.

The location is the only thing to say for this place. It's on 44th Street in the same block as the historic Algonquin, Iroquois and the excellent Royalton, the New York Yacht Club, the Penn Club and the Harvard Club. All of those places would be a better choice and worth paying the extra cost. We thought it would compare. We were wrong.

The room was miniscule. Hardly room to move around in it. The bathroom had a one inch gap between the double doors and all the way around them so you can literally look right in and see your partner doing their business. The mattress springs were all broken down on one side of the bed. Staff could not offer us a different room so they offered us two complimentary continental breakfasts to compensate. Really? A biscuit in trade for a bad night's sleep? There is no coffee in the rooms and you have to go downstairs to make coffee in the cappuccino machine, which whether from lack of cleaning, but probably because they're using some bottom of the barrel beans is just vile. The only thing worse is the food in the restaurant. We had to eat dinner there on Sunday night because we were meeting a friend late. How do you screw up a grilled cheese sandwich and a hamburger? I don't know, but they did it. We left half of each sandwich on the plate and went hungry they were so bad. The "Classic Cocktails" (a Manhattan and a Stinger) which they charged $15 a piece for were made with well-quality spirits and were literally undrinkable. Both tasted like dishwater and were left on the table. No one asked if there was a problem with them. To top it all off, some cleaning substance or other vicious allergen in the room caused my partners' eyes to swell up and begin to water. This only stopped when we'd been quit of the room for about 4 hours. I lived in NYC for years and return and stay there for a weekend at least every other month. This is by far the worst hotel experience I've had in NYC. Never again.

Five years ago, no one would have looked to the Bowery for Manhattan’s hottest boutique hotel, but the one-time skid row has come up trumps with this irrepressible hipster hangout. The staff were exceptional. Especially in the lobby lounge where I spent a lot of my time. The wait staff were all exceptional and made me feel welcome and like family. I loved spending time in the Lobby Lounge of the Bowery!

My room was a bit noisy. Think the rooms could use a fresh coat of paint.

This was my first time staying at the Bowery and I was extremely impressed with the service. I will definitely make it my go-to hotel for all of my NYC trips.

The location in Brooklyn was excellent for my needs. Beds were very comfortable. Room was a good size, nicely outfitted.

The main lobby was a bit small, one of the faucets in the room was a bit loose and needed repair.

Loved the free breakfast which was available. Very friendly and helpful front desk in the am. Appreciated there was a car service there.

A small hotel, but very neat and clean and well organized. Staffs very kind and efficient. dining room and breakfast are excellent. I enjoyed it very much !!!

The room was too small with a no view, only brick building to look at, so I only stayed at night for sleep and stayed out of the room during the day time with other things to do. The bed was too small, a queen bed would be better than 2 single beds.

For the price, I think the hotel is very good. If I have to go to Brooklyn again, then definitely I will stay at this hotel again.

Good location and for New York,it is a good size room. Right across street for the Subway and 3 blocks from Central Park.

The beds are so hard and linens are very old. Towels are tiny and old. Our room was not cleaned even after I told them we were leaving and would l ike room serviced.

Prices are either the average per night price per room or first night of stay. You can select to display the prices with or without our estimate of taxes & fees (which may not appear on provider's booking page but will be charged at hotel checkout). Before you complete your reservation, verify the total cost on the provider's site. Prices and availability are not guaranteed.

Here's why:

We’re not the seller
At KAYAK we don’t set prices, so it’s not possible for us to guarantee what other companies are selling.

We aggregate tons of data for you
Our service lets you quickly and easily compare results from hundreds of travel sites at once. In this sense, KAYAK is a search engine and we don't guarantee prices we find.

Why aren’t prices accurate 100% of the time?
Prices on airline seats, hotel rooms and car rentals can change frequently. Several people may also be trying to buy the same travel option simultaneously. As a result, you may find on occasion that certain prices are no longer available.
