This hotel was beautiful, staff is very friendly, pool is beautiful, breakfast was great! We loved the swim up bars too :) We saw Monkeys, Iguanas, Geckos, Sloths...all nearby without even entering the national park!
nice hotel, 3 hours from San Jose Airport. great ocean views, penthouse if really cool. had monkeys come to our patio.
My first time to La Mariposa, I immediately commented to my friend that I felt very welcome, like I was in someone's home. The staff were all fantastic and very friendly and professional. The pool and jacuzzi are stunning, the view amazing, it's impossible not to feel relaxed and with a great margarita in hand, I couldn't wish to be anywhere else. The room's are extremely comfortable, the view stunning from our top floor room. Breakfast with such an incredible view was a great way to start the day. I would absolutely recommend this resort.
I certainly recommend La Mariposa to everyone ...The view is amazing ...,very clean ,and the staff very helpful..It's a short walk to a grocery store and other restaurants...the best food we ate ,while stayin there, for a week was right in the parking lot of the resort ...wonderful French cusine. The chef and his son were wonderful ,everything was so fresh and the deserts ,to die for.We looked at other resorts in this area and would choose La Mariposa again.. vacation 5/21/11
The whole experience was amazing. The rooms, staff, restaurant, bar, service, location, feeling of safety and ease of scheduling activities were more than we expected. We will definitely stay there again and have recommended this hotel to many friends...
Come here for the great views. But our experience was mixed. We wanted to thank our local host with a special dinner at the hotel. The restaurant did not have many items on the menu, and it took many tries to get wines from the wine list that were actually in stock. What we had was good but inconsistent: the pasta was marginal and the seared tuna was unevenly cooked. Our room had a nice view but the king bed was actually two twin beds pushed together and not secured, so that I fell between the beds -- not a pleasant time. Overall I spent over $* here for one night and dinner but came away disappointed.
This stay was quite wonderful. We loved every minute of our actual stay, this is also true of the gift shop. The only thing we didn't like was finding the place. It is very poorly marked for a newcomer to Manuel Antonio and we had to stop twice to ask someone in the dark. We would suggest marking the road in with a more noticeable sign.
It is hard to impress travelers from Florida with an ocean view but Hotel La Mariposa (butterfly) did such a thing. Upside: room views and cleanliness. Infinity pool was amazing and you could sit and look out to the ocean. Staff was very nice and spoke English well. La Mariposa has the best views in the Manuel Antonio area according to all of our tour guides and we agree. Breakfast included was good but it gets boring after a few days of the same ole' but they will make you eggs or omelet. Cafe Milagros at the end of the road was really good and reasonable. Ate dinner once at hotel- very good but limted selections. Great monkey viewing as soon as it gets light in the morning (6am) on the dirt road behind the hotel (just in front of big blue pool filters) My fiancee and I agree it would be a great honeymoon or romantic getaway spot. Downside: no TVs in room and radio pretty spotty so bring an Ipod and travel speakers.
I chose to stay at La Mariposa because of the reviews posted on this site, and after my return I felt compelled to put in my two cents. What a location! The hotel is situated on a hill above the Pacific Ocean offering 180 degree views; sunrise to sunset the views are spectacular, the best in the area. The staff was courteous and helpful, helping us arrange transportation for all of the adventures we hadn't pre-booked. Our room had an ocean view and a private balcony overlooking the ocean and Manuel Antonio National Park. It was neat and cleaned every day following our daily outings. We we within 2min walking distance from the only ATM around and many restaurants and boutiques, very practical. The complimentary breakfast was indulgent and the coffee memorable. On top of all of it: monkeys, iguanas, butterflies, birds, etc. I can't think of any reason someone wouldn't be pleased in chosing La Mariposa. When I told our tour guides where we were staying they all had the same response; ''Good choice!''
Hotel La Mariposa was exactly what we wanted out of Costa Rica. We paid extra for the room to have an ocean view when we made the reservation, and it was totally worth it. It was separate from the rest of the building, but that meant we could see the sunrise from our room and the sunset from the pool! The pool was incredible, and the bar service at the pool/patio was excellent. The bar closes at 10, but there are other bars within walking distance. The staff was polite, hard working, and spoke excellent English. As for the food, the breakfast was great (fresh fruit, beans and rice, eggs, etc), as was the one meal we had in the hotel. The cafe across the street was great. For activities, they had arrangements with tours in the area and a concieige that arranged them for you. Horseback riding and zip line tours are a must. If you want to go to the beach, or the nearby Manual Antonio rain forest, there is a free bus that the hotel runs. Or you can have a healthy walk. The hotel is halfway between Quepos and Manuel Antonio, so there are a lot of things to do in the area. If you like tourist trap bars and restaurants, there are plenty, but there is also a good number of places that are more low-key and serve what the Ticos eat. Have the Mariposa Dream fruit cocktail when you get there! We will be back!
My husband and I wanted a relaxing vacation in someplace beautiful - we weren't disappointed at the Hotel La Mariposa. We stayed there 6 days - mostly lounging at the beautiful pool, viewing one beautiful sunset after another. The staff were wonderful - polite and attentive. We had an ocean view room in the main hotel on the fourth floor and the view of Manuel Antonio and the ocean was simply awesome- better than we ever imagined it would be. We ate at the hotel restaurant several evenings - the food and service were wonderful and the prices were comparable to a good restaurant in the States - very reasonable. The breakfast buffet was really wonderful- we skipped lunch several days since we were still full from breakfast. The pool bar closes around 10 each evening - late enough for a night cap, but not too late so the hotel was very peaceful. We'd highly recommend La Mariposa to our friends - and if we travel back to CR, we'd definitely stay there again.
Incredible view. Dreary rooms and very over priced. Unfortunately Americans are used to paying high prices so they are not aware that you are being ripped off because you are American. The staff at this hotel was very nice and very helpful. The rooms were uncomfortable, lacked certain basic amenities and the prices both in the bar and restaurant were higher than many places in America.
