The 10 best hotels in Miami Beach

Discover the top hotels in Miami Beach - handpicked by local expert, Sara Liss.

Miami Beach is a city brimming with possibilities and is both a jet-setting destination as well as a seaside village. Choices here range from sprawling oceanfront resorts to quaint, historic Art Deco relics that have been lovingly restored to house some of the best hotels in Miami Beach. Whether you're looking for a lively pool scene or a secret lobby cocktail bar, you will find your personal heaven in this unique and comfortable sun-kissed enclave.

1.

W South Beach

Address:

2201 Collins Avenue

Price:

$180-4450/night

One of the largest resorts in Miami Beach, the W South Beach is both a high-style hotel with celebrity cachet while also managing to be a serene getaway for travelers who prefer privacy and quietude. The hotel’s 400 rooms comprise one-bed studios, or for those looking to travel with families or do extended stays, the apartment-like “Oasis” suites with kitchens and living rooms.
All rooms are equipped with perks like plush robes and slippers and complimentary in-room coffee makers. Though the hotel is not specifically geared to families, our family enjoyed the massive pool and our condo-style suite that came with a kitchen. My tweens also loved taking advantage of the hotel’s SWISH & SWING, a tennis and basketball court complex where private lessons can be arranged.
The hotel can also arrange for a guided tour of its $50 million art collection, which includes original Warhol paintings among other works of contemporary art.

2.

1 Hotel South Beach

Address:

2341 Collins Avenue

Price:

$540-4744/night

This sprawling hotel featuring one of the largest beach fronts in Miami – measuring at 600 feet of uninterrupted coastline is known for its spacious rooms and upscale amenities.
The hotel features recycled wooden room keys, a filtered water tap in every room, and organic cotton sheets – along with upcycled driftwood furniture throughout. Four pools, a lavish fitness center and a spacious spa add to the wellness features on the property.
Dining options are unique and include Watr 1 at the Rooftop – an 18th-floor hideaway that caters to adults only and features a live DJ. There’s also the Tulum-esque Wave Beach Club located at beach level with a lively weekend brunch scene and the fine dining Habitat Restaurant on the ground floor, which serves breakfast and dinner.

3.

The Setai, Miami Beach

Address:

2001 Collins Avenue

Price:

$533-4970/night

The Setai Miami Beach is a Forbes Travel Five Star Award winner and an attractive destination for guests seeking a unique if not opulent experience in Miami Beach. Situated beachfront on the quieter northern fringes of South Beach, The Setai seamlessly blends Asian hospitality with contemporary design for an experience that suits sophisticated travelers.
The lobby features flooring made from Shanghai bricks sourced from abandoned buildings in China’s old city along with tables made from Beijing palace pavers and a bar adorned with mother-of-pearl. All of these ancient touches are a refreshing change from the ubiquitous white-on-white minimalism of the majority of South Beach hotels.
I loved dining in the Setai’s lush outdoor spaces which are perfectly suited for al fresco dinners on breezy nights. Jaya, the fine dining restaurant includes seating in its gorgeous outdoor courtyard, which offers an innovative and exquisite Pan Asian menu (the chef’s Thali platter is a must-order).

4.

Kimpton Angler's Hotel South Beach

Address:

660 Washington Avenue

Price:

$63-1239/night

One of the most charming boutique hotels in South Beach, the Angler’s first opened in the 1930s and counted Ernest Hemmingway among its guests. A four-minute walk from South Beach, this self-dubbed “sanctuary in the sun” is known for highly-attentive service, a pet-friendly policy, and gorgeously maintained multi-story duplex suites.
The resort has three outdoor murals, which lend an elevated feel to the lush European-style gardens with hidden nooks and walkways, and more than a dozen types of trees, plants and flowers. The popular (and Instagrammable) SOBE is LOVE landmark sign (first unveiled during Art Basel 2018) now makes its home in front of Kimpton Angler’s at the corner of 6th and Washington Avenue.
The hotel has two pools – one at ground level within a secluded courtyard, and the other sitting six floors up on the rooftop – as well as several three-story poolside bungalows, each with their own rooftop sundeck. Seawell Fish n’ Oyster is the in-house restaurant serving fresh seafood dishes, while the hotel’s Minnow Bar serves specializes in gin cocktails.

5.

The Betsy - South Beach

Address:

1440 Ocean Drive

Price:

$116-1586/night

The city’s most artsy hotel with an emphasis on cultural programming, this boutique gem also just underwent an expansion of their oceanfront property, adding a modern new wing and rooftop pool. Located in the heart of the Art Deco District on Ocean Drive, The Betsy’s unique hospitality model champions the power of community through its dedicated arts, culture, and community program by weaving those brand pillars into the guest experience.
The Betsy’s lobby is known for its live jazz music and their small subterranean bar regularly hosts poetry readings. The property boasts 130 guest rooms including 25 suites, three distinct food and beverage outlets under the direction of famed Chef Laurent Tourondel, a 3,200 sq. ft. rooftop complex with a swimming pool, and a dedicated traditional library along with a free lending library for hotel guests.

6.

Hotel Greystone - Adults Only

Address:

1920 Collins Avenue

Price:

$172-1544/night

This historic Art Deco hotel offers intimate spaces and one of Miami’s rare adults-only environments. The property’s signature and must-try restaurant is Sérêvène, led by award-winning Executive Chef Pawan Pinisetti, presenting a menu that is Japanese-inspired and utilizes French techniques.
The hotel also houses The Greystone Jazz Bar, with live jazz music nights and a creative twist in their menu of classic cocktails. The pool and an inviting lounge are located on the hotel’s rooftop where guests can also order food and beverages.
What I love most about the hotel is the 3-minute walk from the Miami Beach convention center and the four-minute walk from the beach, making it ideal for convention-goers and those looking for a quieter, off-the-beaten-path destination.

7.

Pelican Hotel

Address:

826 Ocean Drive

Price:

$162-1001/night

The Pelican Hotel in Miami Beach, designed by fashion giant Renzo Rosso of DIESEL and OTB Group, recently reopened after a two-year transformation. Situated on Ocean Drive, the historic Art Deco boutique reveals a design-centric, oceanfront haven that pulses with the energy of contemporary fashion, culture, and flavors.
Originally built in 1948, the property was purchased by Rosso in 1990 and was the first hotel to be designed and decorated by the brand’s Creative Team. The boutique hotel features 32 guestrooms, each inspired by a variety of movie sets and featuring one-of-a-kind vintage artifacts and furniture.
The Pelican Cafe, located on the ground floor is one of the things I love most about this establishment. Featuring both indoor and outdoor seating, the beachfront views here make for a relaxing setting for any traveller.

8.

Kimpton Hotel Palomar South Beach

Address:

1750 Alton Road

Price:

$116-1389/night

Poised on the edge of Sunset Harbor, the 96-room boutique hotel offers access to the city of Miami Beach and a view of Biscayne Bay. Many rooms feature private balconies that overlook the glimmering Biscayne Bay. Other rooms include large terraces with comfortable lounge seating for vistas of the Sunset Harbor neighborhood.
High-end bathroom products from Atelier Bloem and plush towels create a cozy vibe, with custom vanity furnishing, a large round mirror and a light fixture. A two-tier rooftop bar features a 6,000 sq. ft. roof deck and pool overlooking Biscayne Bay.
The in-house restaurant Osteria Morini from Altamarea Group and Chef Michael White serves Northern Italian fare and has both indoor and outdoor seating. Though this hotel is not located on the beach, there is access to its sister property the Kimpton Surfcomber and its beach club.

9.

National Hotel, An Adult Only Oceanfront Resort

Address:

1677 Collins Avenue

Price:

$103-1290/night

This stunning hotel is known for its historical art deco design and the longest infinity pool in Miami. The property’s historic exterior is juxtaposed with an eclectic interior, featuring a comfortable lobby lounge and bar, fine dining restaurant Mareva 1939, and Martini Bar, all brought to life with an impressive hand-selected collection of art, including brightly painted portraits of celebrities such as David Bowie and Marilyn Monroe.
For active travelers, the hotel hosts yoga classes four times a week and complimentary two-hour bicycle rentals. The hotel’s Martini Bar is one of the most handsome spots to get a drink in the city. A destination in its own right, Mareva 1939 is routinely rated among Miami’s best restaurants, with dynamic Spanish cuisine by Executive Chef Sergio Chamizo.
The inventive sharing menu is based on traditional Spanish dishes with a unique twist for a taste that is distinctly Mareva.

10.

Loews Miami Beach Hotel

Address:

1601 Collins Avenue

Price:

$267-4554/night

The Loews Miami Beach is a sprawling resort and one of the largest in South Beach with a bountiful 790 rooms and magnificent ballrooms that regularly host gala dinners. Despite the hotel’s massive size, I always manage to feel welcome at this Art Deco property, mostly due to the staff’s congenial and personalized service and to the hotel’s warm and welcoming spaces, which are both built for volume and incredibly comfortable.
There is no shortage of activities to engage in on the premises – from the iconic pool deck, where direct beach access means the ocean is only steps away to four restaurants and lounges including Preston’s Market, Miami Joe Coffee Co., Bar Collins and Nautilus.
There’s also the outdoor SOAK Cabanas & Daybeds located poolside, which come with their own bathrooms and air-conditioned spaces for when you need to take a break from the pool.

  • Hotel room prices vary depending on many factors but you’ll most likely find the best hotel deals in Miami Beach if you stay on a Saturday. The opposite is true for, Friday, which is usually the most expensive day.
  • Book at least 29 days before your stay begins to get the best price for your Miami Beach hotel.
  • The cheapest 3-star hotel room in Miami Beach found on KAYAK in the last 2 weeks was $104, while the most expensive was $498.

Grand Beach Hotel Bay Harbor is a great choice to give you easy access to these destinations.
  • If you are planning a trip to Miami and want to stay at the absolute best resort available, one choice in the South Beach neighborhood is the Ritz Carlton South Beach. At the opposite end of the beach in the Bay Harbor Islands neighborhood, you will find the St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort.

You can also find cheap, budget-friendly hotels in Miami Beach just a little further along in the Miami Mid-Beach area. There are plenty of choices there, like the Hotel Croydon, and you’re more likely to land a good deal on a room with a balcony and ocean view. Hotels on the beach tend to be more expensive, so it might be worth looking a bit further.
  • If you’re traveling with friends, then consider booking your Miami Beach hotel in the South Beach area, where many of your options are two-bedroom hotels that offer adjoining suites. Consider the Chesterfield Hotel & Suites, which can provide a cheap, cost-effective option for groups and families, while still being near the beach and other attractions like the Art Deco Historic District.
  • If you’d rather be away from the crowds and closer to the North Beach area, you should consider booking your Miami Beach hotel a little further afield, like West Avenue and La Gorce.
