About The Jane Hotel

This stay includes Wi-Fi for free

The Jane Hotel is a West Village landmark that stands out for its exceptional quirky accommodations and is a popular choice for hipsters on a tight budget. Other similarly priced hotels cannot compete with The Jane’s proximity to the thriving Meatpacking District neighborhoods and West Village.

Although quirky and unusual, the hotel has a fascinating background. The Jane Hotel once provided temporary lodging to survivors of the Titanic. Restored in 2008 from an apartment cooperative to a cute micro hotel, guest like the hotel’s stylish and unusually inexpensive accommodations. Straddling the Meatpacking District and the West Village, and across the street from the Hudson River promenade, the Jane Hotel is secluded and quiet. Some first-timers are skeptical of the non-bustling area, but just block eat they will find the hopping, trendy nightlife, restaurants, and art destinations they were looking for.

Many guests are eager to try a 50-square-foot Standard Cabin or a tiny, two-person Bunk Bed Cabin. These cleverly designed, tiny rooms feature under-bed cubbies for storage, a wall-mounted flat-screen TV with a DVD player, and an iPod dock. For a shower, guests can choose from one of the two shared bathrooms.

Two bars and one eatery at the Jane Hotel hold their own in an area known for trendy restaurants and nightlife. It is home to Nolita's popular, celebrity-filled Cafe Gitane. There's also a swanky rooftop terrace and bohemian Jane Ballroom, a dimly lit cocktail lounge and nightclub oozing in atmosphere.

Travelers must desire a unique New York experience to thoroughly enjoy the Jane Hotel. The neighborhood is the place to be low-key and youthful, but if guests are not into small rooms and communal bathrooms, they will find themselves uncomfortable.

Loud. If it’s not the ballroom then it’s the traffic noise. Won’t come again.

8.8 Very good
Pros:The room was the perfect size for just me.
Cons:A more comfortable mattress. Air conditioning in the hotel hallways and shared bathroom. A regular shower with good water pressure... I get that the rain fall showers are popular but not everyone can stand directly under the water.

8.5 Very good
Pros:Very charming, cute bunk rooms, very clean, nice staff, excellent service.
Cons:Even though it was winter, the rooms were warm & the AC didn’t work well. The hotel bar is expensive, but it normal for NYC I suppose.

9.4 Wonderful
Pros:Literally feels like renting a bunk on the Titanic.
Cons:Co-ed bathrooms, eek!

8.0 Very good
Pros:This place is priced right. It's not quite high end, but it's a big step up from the average NJ motel. The single I stayed in was exactly as described. About the size of a walk in closet, I nevertheless slept in comfort and didn't mind the bathrooms down the hall which were clean. As a nice touch, they provide slippers for walking back and forth. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Cons:The room was a bit musty. The whole place could use some airing out. But hey, it's historic!
