cute hats retro fun good location quiet
beds a bit uncomfortable couldn't find the shared bathroom(s) at first very small room
I read the reviews before our stay and was pleasantly surprised at how lovely the entire experience was. The staff were all friendly and had a sense of humor. The room was small as expected, but we didn't plan on spending an extended time inside. The bathrooms were clean and there are two hair dryers so no need to pack one. We took bicycles out on one day and had a blast. The neighborhood is quiet although there is plenty to do. I would recommend The Jane to those traveling alone or as a couple. There is space for luggage but not much else. The photographs are an accurate representation of the rooms.
The only negative was the mattress. Mine was lumpy but I slept fine. My companion did not notice anything with his so it may just be a personal preference.
The location is its strongest point as it was walking distance to tourist attractions like 911 memorial Wall Street and just one subway to others like Times Square Rockefeller et al it was shared bathroom was really worried about that but truth be told they were sparkling clean at all times including the toilets. staff was friendly also
Had this damp smell in the corridors plus the standard room was quite small but hey if all you need is just somewhere to lay your head after a hectic day of sightseeing and shopping or freshen up between sightseeing(s)- definitely the place to stay I mean it's good if stay-in is minimal plus the location is just very spot on.
Welcoming staff, best value in Manhattan for a solo traveler. My cabin was shipshape when I arrived, and my bunk was comfortable all night. In the morning, a private shower/dressing room was ready when I was. The cafe was convenient, with French coffee, a French croissant, and French service (pleasant, but a bit blasé--French, you know). Merci bien.

I've stayed in several of New York's cheap hotels while on business. The Jane trumped them all on hospitality and cleanliness. The single room is charmingly arranged with wood paneling and brass decor. The shared bathrooms are stylish and always clean. The pastry shop downstairs makes great croissants, and the bar has a great vibe.
Obviously the rooms are small (though well laid-out). It's also a little farther off the beaten path from a subway stop. No sinks in the room can be inconvenient, but the bathroom is nearby, so wasn't a problem.
I like the location and the price. It was clean.
I thought the elevator was a bit slow. The rooms were even smaller than I imagined.
It is better then hostal in NYC. You have your own small room. THe Jane is located in very nice Meatpacking district close to Chelsea Market, 7 minutes from Subway.
The smell of something. I don't know what it was. Probably it was the smell of whole building. Or it was the smell of varnish. Flip-flop was impossible to use so it was better to keep your own flip-flop.
This is a quirky, clean, fun, well designed budget hotel, in a fantastic West Village location, and with lovely staff. I would definitely stay here again.
The hotel is in the process of being done up: but the hotel were upfront about this on their website, so it's not a criticism.
location, ambience, design of the room is superb; excellent and efficient planning for a small room. great staff.
bathrooms and stair hall smelled of strong ammonia aroma. nice to know things are being cleaned, but maybe there is a less offensive cleaning agent. bathrooms did have an odor. more effective air fresheners are needed, a complimentary bathrobe would be nice to wear to the showers. flip flops in room broke easily
perfectly designed rooms for such small spaces. the hotel staff was the nicest i have ever encountered. location of the hotel is perfect
i would like to be able to check in by 1pm rather than 3pm. again, the staff was great and did get me in a room at 2:30 when one became available.
