Opened in 1931, the JW Marriott Essex House has become one of New York's finest five star hotels as well as a local landmark thanks to its iconic neon sign. Many of the building's original art deco details, including murals and chandeliers, have been restored and blend seamlessly with modern luxuries like custom designed furniture and flat-screen TVs. The 394 guestrooms and 117 suites are spread across 40 floors and guests can expect sumptuous duvet bedding, marble bathrooms, and unobstructed views of Central Park.
Iconic comfort in New York
After a long day of sightseeing, guests can retire to the JW Marriott to enjoy the five-star facilities including the 24-hour fitness center with state of the art equipment and PRIMP spa for a soothing massage treatment. For dinner, make reservations at South Gate, the in-house restaurant, which is known for its tapas-style menu featuring locally sourced, seasonal ingredients and an extensive selection of cocktails.
Around and about in the Big Apple
The JW Marriott Essex House has an enviable location in the heart of New York just south of Central Park. The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is a 10-minute walk away and many iconic New York restaurants, including Carnegie Deli and the Russian Tea Room, are within a few blocks of the hotel.
Nothing but that we had to leave
The location and service were great. The room was very comfortable and spacious (especially for NY). We ordered room service and the food was excellent.
The parking was more expensive than other local hotels ($65 vs. $50 at other hotels).
The size of the suite was great. Plenty of closets. Clean bathroom, very functional. Furniture and fixtures were in top condition.
No music capability in the suite unless you brought your own.
The location is superb. Central Park views are a joy to behold. I also thought the front desk staff was friendly and helpful.
Postage-stamp sized room, even by NYC standards, for $500 a night. I also would have appreciated more attentive doorman service, especially during evening and nighttime hours. (Daytime service was fine.)
Staff were professional and friendly. Room was perfect size, very clean and tidy. Location was perfect.Had 5th ave two blocks away, central park on your door step.Couldn't ask for a better location. The hotel was walking distance to every tourist attraction. The tour bus stop was around the corner too.
The room didn't have a coffee/tea maker.Would happily have brought one from the hotel but prices were stupidly high, along with the price of breakfast and dinner. This didn't put us off as starbucks was one block away and was able to walk to all restaurants, plenty of choices. But menu did look good.
Convenient location for the stay
Relativelly small room compered to the price, previous Jumairah experience in SAE and generally number of stars of the hotel
The staff is kind, congenial and attentive. The spa is one of the best I have ever been to. I took my 82-year old parents to NY for the thanksgiving weekend, and the hotel staff was so kind, so wonderful to them.
Can't think of a thing!
Awesome location. Right at Central Park, with a great view.
The Hotel staff was exceptional. They were very accommodating and definitely worked to in sure that our stay was comfortable and hassel free.
We liked everything! A great hotel! They upgraded us (the price was the same). Excellent service! Surely we'd like to stay there next time. Location is excellent.
Excellent service. Good hotel just facing Central Park.
There are many good hotels near Time Square, Rockefeller center, etc. with a more convenient location and with much better prices.
