10.0 Wonderful
Pros:We stayed 2 nights last year and 3 nights this year. Get the rooms that overlook the cliffs. Wonderful ocean roar all night and great patio sitting. The Cliff House facilities are endless and great fun.
Cons:Hot tub, cliff walk, dining, Tommy is your friend at the bar!
L
8.5 Very good
Pros:The hotel, staff, views and rooms were exceptional. Every person we spoke to was friendly. The restaurant offered to bring our meals out to us on a patio and housekeeping prepared the sofa bed for our children without us asking. The front desk keeps s’more kits available which our children loved. Our room included a balcony which looked over the ocean and was incredible to wake up to each morning. Our first night, the kids were through the moon (which meant I was through the moon), laughing, making friends with other kids and going back into the pool over and over with their new friends. They had so much fun we had to pry them out of the pool at the end of the evening. After our first night we had every intention of making this an annual trip. To find a wonderful hotel that our children could also enjoy was perfect. The next morning I went to the spa and enjoyed even more incredible views and relaxation.
Cons:While I was heading to the spa my husband took our two boys (9 and 12) to the pool (same one we enjoyed the first night so much). Whiile he was getting them ready to head in one of the hotel staff came by to inform him that beginning that day, children under 13 were no longer allowed in the resort pool. They were redirected to a family pool behind the resort. If you have seen pictures of the Cliff House and the incredible property you have seen the pools next to the cliffs, surrounded by flowers , next to a bar and restaurant. Bring your children under 13 and this is no longer available to you. While the family pool is nice, it isn’t the reason we booked our trip. It was crowded with many families and children. At the same time the front pool area had less than 10 people in it every time we walked by. Worse, our kids were devastated. They went from having the “best time ever” to feeling completely unwelcome. It certainly wasn’t the way I hoped my family would feel during our vacation. Other families at the pool expressed similar disappointment and several indicated they had called ahead to confirm that the resort pool was available to their children only to be turned away in a similar fashion when they entered the resort pool. The Cliff House currently advertises as welcoming to families and they should make a decision on whether that should continue. Indicating you are welcoming to families and then having a policy to exclude them from the primary portion of the resort is contradictory. I hope the Cliff House reconsiders this policy. Unfortunately until then we will need to look elsewhere for a location that truly welcomes our family.
