A kilometre from the inhabited centre of Ostuni and just a few kilometres from the sea lies the Masseria Salinola Agritourism Estate, immersed in the green age old olive groves, this old 18th century masseria has been carefully restructured to maintain its original stone architecture. The old masseria, until the last century, was used as a salt deposit for salt shipped to the old port of Villanova from all over the Mediterranean. Over the years the masseria became more and more important until it became the centre of agricultural and social life and a reference point for the local farmers of the area. The apartments, furnished in country style, can accommodate three to six people. All the apartments have a kitchenette and private bathroom. Inside the grounds of the masseria there is also a little old country church with its cobbled floor, vaulted ceiling and stone alter. It is a long standing tradition, passed down from generation to generation, to celebrate the holy mass in the open during the summer months. For 15 years the Masseria Salinola has specialised in country holidays, the warm welcome from the host family guarantees guests a relaxing holiday in the countryside of Puglia, for those in search of the typical traditional cuisine of Ostuni based on organic produce grown and prepared on the estate. All this and more in a family atmosphere wrapped in the charm of a time gone by in this characteristic old masseria. Also available to guests is a swimming pool with Jacuzzi, a children s playground, bicycles, table tennis, swimming courses, cooking lessons and long country walks. On the Estate you can also buy products such as Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Wine, fruit and home made bread.
The location was good.
The rooms are basic and the breakfest was ok. As in was mid October the rooms were cold and the grounds could not be used to full advantage.
I think the hotel has good facilities, very clean and the staff were very helpful once they understood what we were saying.
There was no English spoken, limited breakfast unless you like cake this was fine for me as I have stayed there before but if you are not aware this can be difficult especially as I had a 9 year old with me
Yes, you can park outside your room and it is lovely and quiet. Our room also had a kitchenette with large fridge and cooking facilities.
It is difficult to find.
Staff and family were very friendly but their lack of English encouraged us to use our limited Italian!
Friendly staff though very limited English spoken - but I guess you have to remember you are staying with a family on their working farm. Room was large, well equipped and comfortable enough given the price. Good pool and lots of outdoor communal spaces. Good to be served fresh food from the farm. Close to town.
Breakfast was more limited than is usual in continental places - lots of cakes, not much in the way of cereals, breads, hams or cheeses. Not the usual coffee options either, just thick black coffee from a large pot. The rooms in the old farmhouse where I stayed are more basically furnished, though the same price, as the newer rooms in the outbuildings. My shower was broken. There are a lot of rooms, it can get surprisingly busy. The hotel has a good local reputation for catering but dinner was disappointing on the one night we ate there.
