Poipu Shores is an oceanfront condominium, nestled into Kauai's coastal cliffs near Spouting Horn. Experience spectacular views of powerful waves from one-, two-, and three-bedroom suites at this hidden gem. An oceanfront pool is perched over the surf, overlooking a Hawaiian green sea turtle sanctuary.
This was our second stay at Poipu Shores Condos. We very much enjoy the location. The unit we stayed in this time was sub-par in terms of updates and amenities within the unit. For instance, during our first stay we had boogie boards, beach mats and cabinet space for food. This particular unit was much more dated than we had on a previous stay. Other differences between this stay and our previous stay were noticed in furniture, baths and the kitchen areas in terms of quality and updates. We love the location and the proximity to Poipu Beach and the water. The view of whales, dolphins and turtles were everyday happenings....right from the deck. Parking is a bit tight, but that is common at other places too. During this particular stay, the condo near the pool was undergoing an update and construction noise and saw dust were made the pool area less than desirable. Our biggest concern at Poipu Shores is the lack of a Courtesy Suite. We travel to Kauai on a regular basis. Since nearly all flights back to the mainland are overnight flights and you don't leave until late evening...Courtesy Suites are available at many of their competitors. This allows you to shower before leaving to the airport. There is an outdoor bathroom at Poipu Shores...but, it has no shower/towels, etc. It is ashamed to give up beach activities and other activities such as hiking that often require clean up prior to departing. In closing, we obviously like this place...but, consistency between units and a place to clean up are areas for improvements. Other locations are available at lower prices that overcome the aforementioned shortcomings.
Outstanding accomodations! Just a few feet from the ocean on a cliff where you could stand and see the turtles. Peaceful, comfortable, quiet, what mlre could you want. Wake up in the morning and see the ocean from your bed. This place was the best. Only complaint was the did not have daily maid service for linens. Had to ask for towels. Would definately go again and recommend to everyone.
Fantastic! From waking up in the morning and looking at the ocean from your bed the crashing of the waves on the rocks below it was an outstanding place. Loved watching the turtles in the ocean below. Slowest pace I have ever been. Loved it.
We stayed here during our 10-day honeymoon and could not have been happier. While we spent the majority of each day enjoying the island, we were doubly happy coming back to the room and waking up in it. Such a charming condo! Each room is decorated with it's own style. The kitchen was great for us because we were able to make the best of the local farmer's market. The staff we ran into were very friendly and nice. You can't beat the view and the turtles that swim up to the pool every morning. It's also a close walk to Poipu beach and a short drive to stores/restaurants (but seemingly clear from the tourism). We are going back again this year and could not be more excited. This may not be your 5-star, Four Seasons with a spa and bustling restaurant... but if you wanted that, you wouldn't be looking into this condo to begin with :) Trust us - you can't go wrong!
We loved our room! We had a room overlooking the water. We would sit on our balcony and count the turtles as the waves brought them ever closer to the rocky shore. There were usually 4-6 at any time of day. We really enjoyed the kitchen , as we shopped the local farmer's markets and ate fresh fish daily cooked in our own room. The grounds are lovely and the desk staff were very helpful. This is the third time we have stayed there and we will continue to return.
Compared with a hotel, condos are a tradeoff. Give up hotel amenities and services; get space, comfort, a full kitchen. Here, we had way more space than we needed (free upgrade to 3BR) but that just adds to the at-home comfort level. Great oceanfront location; memorable sunrises and sunsets, with sea turtles right below your balcony. No A/C but that's no problem: leave the windows open and fall asleep to the ocean's song. Downsides: constant exposure to ocean air corrodes, so some items (lamps) were rusty. Parking is tight. Ocean is right there, but swimming beach is 2 blocks' walk. One of Kauai's best snorkeling beaches is less than a mile.
Beautiful condos, well equipped with washer and dryer and kitchen with supplies. Staff very friendly and helpful. Can see sea turtles near the pool area every morning. Sound of waves is amazing, but if you don't like the sound, the windows are pretty sound-proof. Lots of places to visit near the condo. Great for kids because there's a back room with two beds and plenty of space in the living-room. Lower rooms not as private but you can walk out into a small garden facing the ocean. Wouldn't stay anywhere else!
My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and can't imagine ever staying at a different place next time we return. Georgia who works at the front desk at Poipu Shores is wonderful and full of good info. The rest of the staff is friendly, the condo is equipped with everything you need and is large enough to bring other guests for dinner. The kitchen is very comfortable. The condos are equipped with a washer and dryer also! We got a lower room that opened up to the grass and cliff- it wasn't 100% private but not many people would walk by. There are upper condos w/ balconies that give you a wider view of the coastline but you will have to walk all around to clearly see the sea turtles that hang out EVERY MORNING right under the cliff by the pool. We would go to sleep listening to the waves and wake up to the birds. We bought groceries and had several meals at the condo to save $. There's a communal bbq and we made a delicious salmon/pineapple dinner one night. There aren't 'activities' at the hotel besides the beautiful pool, but Poipu is full of activities. The condo is near a Poipu beach where one can go snorkeling or swimming. Just 5 min drive you can get to a shopping mall and a little farther there's a cute little town with a fish market that makes great lunch take-outs. Other activities in the island you should try are: Capt Andy's rafting trip, Smith's Luau, Blue Hawaiian helicopter ride. This trip would not have been as memorable if we had stayed anywhere else! We loved it!
180 degree ocean view, 40 feet from your room, complete with crashing waves, turtles, dolphins and whales - right off your lanai. The pool built into the ocean is the place to hang out to see even more ocean life. The location between the Hyatt and the Sheraton makes for great AM walks in either direction. Poipu has the best weather of all the resorts on Kauai, and yet still has lush fauna. We're coming back here many times.
2 room deluxe. The place was filthy. Fake plants were covered in dust. Shower was so icky we had to wear flip-flops. Lanai view awesome, but is glass panels very hot no breeze can get through. No A/C, but needed since condo faces west. Awesome crashing waves, but every 2 minutes a blow hole hits, sound is a huge precussion Ka-boom. A couple nights your nerves are shot. Bad bed. Screens let in flying bettles all over, even get into bed. Washer rust coroded dryer musty. Cabinets grimy. Entire place needs updated and a good scrubbing. Parking crowed and narrow.
The Hotel was conveniently located, clean, and had all of those items we need for a week long vacation. Including Washer/Dryer, Kitched, etc.'
