Cool upper Manhattan neighborhood, near CUNY and down the street from the Alexander Hamilton house, fairly easily accessible by the C train. Friendly staff.

Poorly marked entrance, took me a while to get someone to come to the door.

Everything was great! Staff was great, sent a car for me at the airport, clean and modern rooms with flat screen and comfy bed.

The neighborhood wasn't the best but then again, it's Queens. So I'd say about average for Queens.

Great location - it is away from the craziness/noise of Times Square, which is the only other area of Manhattan that I have stayed in.

No

I am not familiar with NYC hotels and picked the Library Hotel because it was highly rated on TripAdvisor. I was extremely pleased with the hotel and would stay there on future visits. Great location, free from the noise of Times Square. Clean and comfortable rooms - with plenty of counter/desk and mirror space for my wife to apply makeup and get ready in the mornings (the lack of space is something that bugs her the most about staying at hotels). 2nd floor lounge is comfortable and provides excellent continental breakfast food in the mornings, snacks during the day and wine/cheese in the late afternoon/early evening. Rooftop lounge is a great place for a nightcap. Staff was attentive to all of our needs. We had dinner at the Madison & Vine Restaurant and enjoyed it very much.

I have been wanting to stay at the Library Hotel ever since they opened and just got the chance due to a very reasonable discounted rate ($300 for a queen room) over the Christmas holiday. They did not disappoint! \nPROS: 1. Fabulous staff - not just one or two but every single one. They were courteous, helpful and completely approachable in a friendly but not pushy way. Owners - you have one terrific staff - be nice to them! 2. The absolutely ingenious idea of a hotel based on the Dewey decimal system. It was very cool! 3. The free (yes free) continental breakfast, snacks, wine and cheese that are available to all guests in the beautiful 2nd floor lounge. I I had not a penny of additional charges on my bill when I checked out. I can't remember the last time that happened. So when you think the rate is too expensive don't forget to account for the free stuff. 4. Rooms were beautiful although small, remember this is NY. My daughter and I had a queen room and it was just big enough. 5. L...

If you are on duty for business in Manhattan and it is the firm who pays for fancy but tiny hotel room for you downtown then after the meeting ends you realize that it's not worth the money if you want to extend your stay for a couple of days more on your own budget, this one is the perfect match! You'll get nice view of the city , easy access to public transportations , shuttle service oh..and the rooms are huge and classy with less pay!

The rooms, NYC view from the rooftop restaurant, and the restaurant itself, staff are super nice, no-rip-off private car service to JFK.

Spacious rooms compared to Manhattan hotels

Some of the clientele were just trashy. There was a couple making out in the lobby right when you walked in at night granted the hotel does have a rooftop lounge that the locals treat as trashy Queens club, but it was a Sunday night, and the lounge was closed so you can't blame it on the alcohol. Room designer seemed to be obsessed with positioning fixtures in the upper right hand corner, which is ok I guess with certain things but not lighting fixtures. And last time I checked an electrical outlet should be by the sink, not above the toilet bowl, unless they consider there guests really hardcore multi-taskers that can shave and blow dry whilst...well you know

The location was really fantastic, and the available shuttle services made it very easy to get in and out of LaGuardia airport. Really a good deal for the money, considering the rates in the area.

Bathroom was a little out of date and tub wouldn't drain quickly, but overall the room was great.

This was a last minute booking because our Airbnb reservation fell through. We were very happy with the location, which was close to the MTA. The staff was friendly and helpful. We particularly liked the rooftop bar with its extensive view of the Manhattan skyline and helpful bartender. Some interesting locals thrown in. The room was comfortable with adequate storage and hangers. Very reasonable rate for a NYC hotel and we'll go back in the future.

The faucets in the bathroom were intended to be "modern" but were confusing and not very practical.

When I arrived, I was given a free upgrade to a queen size room. I was prepared, given the other reviews, for a pretty small room, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was more than enough room for just myself, and the bathroom was spacious as well. I also really liked the toiletries (they smelled so good!) and the bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in.

Turning the shower to "high pressure" resulted in a very wet bathroom floor. I hadn't expected the lip between the shower and the bathroom to be so low! Additionally, I left my bag at the front desk the day I checked out, and I guess someone else's bag leaked something on mine? Or it's stored in the same space as they keep extra toiletries. The stain it left smelled a lot like the toiletries they give out. Unfortunately, I didn't notice it until I got home.

The Surrey did everything to make my short stay in NY very pleasant. My room was beautifully appointed and lusciously comfy. It is pretty pricey but, well worth the cost. The only negative, was the $15/day internet wifi cost. Ridiculous for a hotel with such a billing per day. I would definitely recommend The Surrey.

Wi-fi was very slow, and there was one day were there was none. The concierge was not helpful and he lied to me. When I had to leave to the airport they offered me a car and they claimed it was as expensive as a yellow cab. I ended up taking the yellow cab and the price was way under what they were asking me.

The location is the only thing to say for this place. It's on 44th Street in the same block as the historic Algonquin, Iroquois and the excellent Royalton, the New York Yacht Club, the Penn Club and the Harvard Club. All of those places would be a better choice and worth paying the extra cost. We thought it would compare. We were wrong.

The room was miniscule. Hardly room to move around in it. The bathroom had a one inch gap between the double doors and all the way around them so you can literally look right in and see your partner doing their business. The mattress springs were all broken down on one side of the bed. Staff could not offer us a different room so they offered us two complimentary continental breakfasts to compensate. Really? A biscuit in trade for a bad night's sleep? There is no coffee in the rooms and you have to go downstairs to make coffee in the cappuccino machine, which whether from lack of cleaning, but probably because they're using some bottom of the barrel beans is just vile. The only thing worse is the food in the restaurant. We had to eat dinner there on Sunday night because we were meeting a friend late. How do you screw up a grilled cheese sandwich and a hamburger? I don't know, but they did it. We left half of each sandwich on the plate and went hungry they were so bad. The "Classic Cocktails" (a Manhattan and a Stinger) which they charged $15 a piece for were made with well-quality spirits and were literally undrinkable. Both tasted like dishwater and were left on the table. No one asked if there was a problem with them. To top it all off, some cleaning substance or other vicious allergen in the room caused my partners' eyes to swell up and begin to water. This only stopped when we'd been quit of the room for about 4 hours. I lived in NYC for years and return and stay there for a weekend at least every other month. This is by far the worst hotel experience I've had in NYC. Never again.

The rooms were spacious for NYC and very comfortable. There was some room service but also a restaurant next door. We only had breakfast there but it was great and there were other options nearby. The rooms come with a small kitchen so you can save your money for other things.

The air conditioner was next to the bed and it was a little difficult to get the right temperature.

Prices are either the average per night price per room or first night of stay. You can select to display the prices with or without our estimate of taxes & fees (which may not appear on provider's booking page but will be charged at hotel checkout). Before you complete your reservation, verify the total cost on the provider's site. Prices and availability are not guaranteed.

Here's why:

At KAYAK we don’t set prices, so it’s not possible for us to guarantee what other companies are selling.
