Location. The Molino de Santillan is an old Cortijo (farmhouse) in a rural estate of orchards and olive groves. It is about 20 kilometres east of Malaga, Spain, and the sea is five kilometres away. Hotel Features. A traditional Andalusian manor farm in 35 hectares of land, The Molino de Santillan has been carefully restored to its former glory by the present family owners. Built in Mediterranean hacienda style, it features an octagonal tower, shallow, pantiled roofing, Moorish arches and a courtyard garden scented with orange blossom and jasmine. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal, with resident pets. There is also an outdoor swimming pool. The Molino de Santillan's restaurant is open for complimentary continental breakfast. Lunch and dinner are also served daily, with live piano music. Menus incorporate organic home grown and local produce, typically with prized hams, olive oil and sweet wines of Malaga. Two conservatories cater for small meetings, with basic audio visual facilities. Besides the hotel's swimming pool and mountain bikes, many outdoor activities are available nearby, including golf, riding, bird watching and hill walking. Guestrooms. The Molino de Santillan's 19 air conditioned guestrooms are individually designed in warm, romantic colours with clay tiled floors and stencilled or rag rolled walls. All have balconies or terraces, DVD players, ceiling fans and safes. Expert Tip. The wild, hilly countryside inland from Rincon de la Victoria is the Sierra de la Axarquia, once used as a bandit hideout, and a stronghold for guerrilla fighters during the Spanish Civil War. It now has protected status as a natural park, offering wildlife and walks.
