Located on 1,200 feet of private beach The Westin St. John Resort is a tropical retreat that’s easy to reach. Not far from St. Thomas airport, the resort is also minutes from the Virgin Islands National Park. Nestled among hibiscus and bougainvillea on the resort’s 47 lush acres you’ll find 96 guest rooms and suites. The resort offers water sports, tennis, nearby golf, children’s activities, great dining, a spa and meeting facilities. The rooms and suites are set apart, adding to the drama of the site, on a verdant, sloping beachfront hillside. All of the rooms face Great Cruz Bay and feature both Westin’s Heavenly® Bed and refreshing Heavenly® Bath.
The staff at the Westin is great. Everyone is very helpful, and friendly. The food at the resort was very good, and the newly renovated suite we stayed in was great, with a full kitchen. The beach at the resort is not the place to go, the local beaches are amazing. You want to be sure to bring bug spray everywhere you go. If you make it to Honeymoon beach, please look for my wedding band! It is about 25-35 feet down the beach to the left, and approx 10-20 feet out!
Our stay at The Westin was wonderful. Secluded enough to get away from it all but in close proximity to Cruz Bay and other gorgeous beaches via taxi. The grounds are amazing and the room was clean and simple; bathroom a little dated. Some of the staff are not so enthusiastic but were respectful. Don't expect much attentiveness from the staff. We enjoyed the food and restaurants. Loved the deli where we could pick up a pizza or a sandwich before a beach trip or later in the night. Overall it was a super vacation and would stay here again!!
Service was terrific across the board! Beautiful pool and grounds. Food at Cruz Bay Prime was excellent. Room was clean and comfortable but could serve to be updated.
The food was a bit pricey and not the best but the rooms were great. Would not recommend spa as it is very overpriced. Keep in mind going in August and September that it is considered off season so many restaurants including their nice restaurant is closed. Still a great hotel!
The hotel service staff on the whole moves quite slowly. It makes it harder to enjoy certain aspects of the trip - especially lunches by the pool and beach. The staff is personable but it appears they are understaffed. The hotel needs a bit of a facelift but the setting is really ideal.
A very relaxing rosort. Relaxing on the beach alot of activity at the pool. Boat ride to B V Islands much to long but the views beautiful.
The grounds, pool, and room were very nice. The staff was helpful and professional. The only negative thing was that there was not a lot of dining options and they were very expensive. Also, a MAJOR plus would be for the Westin to offer free or discounted transportation services. The open air taxi's got very expensive. I spent over $200 for the 4 days I was there. Going to the beach got pricey and we only did that twice.
The Westin staff was friendly and enthusiastic. Service was sometimes a bit slow at the poolside bar, but Beaches had consistently excellent service. If you have the option of a package with the breakfast buffet included, I highly recommend it. Along with standards like potatoes, sausage, and bacon, you get a new buffet option daily (delicious apricot pancakes, Belgian waffles, etc), and there is a made-to-order egg/omelet station. This is $26 a person normally, so do the math and see if it makes sense financially- you won't regret it when you try the food. Iguanas, hermit crabs, and small lizards run the beautifully manicured grounds. The only downside to this is that all day long you will hear the sounds of the staff powerwashing, trimming trees, etc. The pool is gorgeous and clean. The beach is nice with a water trampoline, but is not as beautiful as the many others on the island. The pool is beautiful. INSIDER TIP: DON'T MISS the hermit crab races on the beach on Sunday afternoon. Adults and kids will enjoy it, the prizes are excellent (free drinks, B1G1F sailing trips, free horseback riding, etc#, and almost everyone wins! Another tip: If you want to do activities through the on site watersports vendor, plan them out on your arrival day. The activities are not offered every day #ie parasailing was M-Th only).
This was our first trip to the Virgin Islands and we were extremely pleased with The Westin Resort & Villas. It felt like a home away from home. The staff was very helpful and went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of and that we had everything we needed. After being there for 2 days, we knew we wanted to come back. We are strongly considering a timeshare with The Westin.
Great place to rest and relax. We stayed a week and enjoyed it very much.
The resort is quite large with some units on hills that overlook the resort. This gives you plenty of space to enjoy the landscaping. We were upgraded to two bedroom villa. One of the best rooms we have ever had at a resort or timeshare. Only knock is that our room had fuzzy reception of the free WiFi.
This place starts out great... service from the airport to the hotel is excellent. The staff at the airport is welcoming and lovely... even the staff at the front desk when you get off the boat is GREAT. Once you get INTO the hotel though, completely different. There were some issues with our reservation - which was, they 'upgraded' our room.... BECAUSE they didn't have any double rooms left. So, we ended up with a king size bed and a cot - Not what we booked or what we needed. We decided not to make a big deal over it cause it was the beginning and we didnt want to start off angry. Next, it too forever to get our luggage and they seemed annoyed that we called looking for it. We FINALLY made it to the pool almost 3 hours after we checked in - the wait staff at the pool was awful. It took 45 minutes for us to order AFTER we got our menus - and that was ONLY because we went up to the bar to order for ourselves. They delivered our food - NOT what we ordered - then refused to take it back AND charged us for it; ON TOP of what we really did order. The pool service was just terrible. There was a board of activities that were supposed to take place which never did, there were no lifeguards on duty, there was no one to check on chair status to clear towels of guests that had left. It was not a pleasant experience. Our cable went out throughout the stay and we were charged for movies that we started watching but could never finish. Our keys somehow became deactivated and it took nearly 20 minutes for someone to address this and let us into our room. Not all was horrible, there was a woman named Agnes who was laying out silverware at the cafe near the pool who was very pleasant and kind. The gentlemen that drove the golf carts were helpful and courteous. The staff who answered the phones were just as informative as they could be. Taxis were readily available and reasonably priced with safe and knowledgable drivers. The last straw for me was when it came to check out. We waite...
The place is beautiful no doubt. Major storm hit the day before. Only the beach was damaged. The hotel food extremely overpriced. Bar and night life were not happening. No basic modern conviences. I would never stay again. Best bet is to stay at private villa. Also get your own car the 'taxi's' will get you no where and leave no cash. They are lazy and unhelpful. The rooms are not updated and they know they can get away with it because they are the only major hotel on the island. Don't stay here!
We went to St John for Thanksgiving vacation, have had recommendations from three people to stay at this hotel. We are gold Starwoods members and in general we love Westins. The local story goes that since the recession most of the hired hellp have left the hotel because they can not afford to live on the island, this explains alot. Service was terrible, rooms not taken care of, restaurant closed and no one seems to care. People were leaving everyday to check in at the Ritz on St Thomas, I wish we had. The general manager was fired in early fall but things are not better yet. We will never go back. Find a nicer place on St Thomas, people I talked to who did move said they had a great time at the Ritz.
Surprisingly enough, I keep returning to a hotel that lacks any amount of graciousness. Initially, I learned when a family of four reserve a room with two beds, you only get one king bed. When I complained they only offered me blow up mattresses that deflated every time my girls laid on them. No room change. Never charge drinks to your room. I had to prove that another room kept charging mine(about $* worth) .Three days later they agreed and gave me a receipt 'paid in full' - only to charge me a month later for these bills when they thought I wasn't looking. Don't eat at the restaurant. Too expensive. Here is the plus factor. You can circumvent all of this if you rent the villas directly from the owners . Get your own groceries and cook or go downtown to your favorite restaurant. The villas are larger and more affordable. The heavenly beds are worth it!!! The Westin grounds are absolutely georgous. The beach is nice for families, the pool is wonderful and the beach restaurant is lovely. The lunch seems to be more affordable than breakfast or dinner. Not interested in $* burgers for kids. Avoid the staff at all costs.
I am living in orlando florida. One of the most vacationed spots in the world. I have seen and worked in customer service every day for the last 7 years. I have never seen such a horrible display of customer service in my life. After a long days of dealing with my brothers wedding obligations a little rest was needed in between wedding events. The Westin brought no relaxation to the trip. Service was incredibly slow, which I can understand if your busy which they may have been, but the service did not come with a smile. No reassuring words, no smile, no please, thank you, yes sir, no sir, just amazingly rude. I am not a rich guy that takes these kind of vacations every year, I am a hard working guy that made it out of the continental United States for the first time and will never go back because of the Westin. When management was notified the apologies were not sincere. They appeared as if they could care less as if we were putting them out to talk to us. I have stayed in a few Westins and have been treated like a king which is why I chose to spend $250 a night for one week to stay there. I will never stay in a Westin again. I understand this is a very large and well respected hotel chain and this will probably fall on deaf ears but I had to write this to get these things off of my chest. I never write reviews and I am not a complainer. If there is a hair in my food I dont say a word, but I have never been treated like this and I am still shocked. The Westin ruined my vacation.
Despite reading horrible reviews, we decided that the Westin couldn't be that bad. I was wrong! Our first room had a nice pool view but the jumbo screen was located outside our room for movie night. They were to do this twice during our stay and it was very loud. We could hear our neighbors conversations as if the door was open and they had a bunch of kids screaming. We complained and had our room moved. Our next room was in the 'pool view' catagory still but had NO view with tall bushes in front of our window. We had these small ants around our sink, by the safe on the carpet, night stand, basically everywhere. The tile in the bathroom had no grout, I had an earring fall off the sink and fell in between the cracks of the tile! The hotel is very spread out. They have golf carts coming around to see if you need a ride but then feel pressured to tip everytime. The food is super expensive and not really great. We were there to get married in St. John on Hawksnest beach. All our other family stayed on St. Thomas at the Wyndham Sugar Bay resort. When I went to visit my parents I starting crying. They had a 5th floor full ocean view. The most beautiful view ever! Thats what we came to the Virgin Islands to see. Long story short.. we only stayed at the Westin 2 nights. I checked out at 9am, had our wedding at 945am, and took the ferry to St. Thomas to check into the Wyndham. We had an AWESOME stay over there and highly recommend it. Cheap beach cafe that was good, great water sports, VERY friendly staff.
My wife and I have vacationed at the Westin St. John 5 times in the past 10 years, This was our 6th time there and I dare say our last. The resort is in dire need of remodeling. The rooms are clean and the cleaning staff are very pleasant. The front desk is brutal, I mean brutal!! For the first 5 days we woke up to a huge puddle in side our room in front of our patio door. (It really stunk, moldy at best) 'Maintenance engineers' repeatedly tried to solve the mystery with out success. All the front desk would say is your on an island, things happen. IMO at $ a night Things should be right, I don't care where you are. I could go on and on with my latest experience with the resort but it would sound as if I were bashing them to an extreme. The bottom line is I spent Top dollar to stay at a 4 star hotel. My wife and I were treated rudely by the front desk staff including the shift managers. All they were interested in was scamming you into a 1 1/2 hour time share tour. Please look else were if you want a relaxing vacation on St. John.
It is a shame that such a great location has been allowed to detriorate to this level. The Westin St. John seems to be placing its capital in building time shares and not back in its rooms. Even the website is out dated. The first room we were placed in, a one bedroon suite, had furniture that was well beyond it lifes and the bathrooms and cleanliness were well below what would be expected for rooms in this price range (or a Holiday Inn for that matter). After being moved to a two bedroom Villa, the facilities were better but still not close to what would be expected. \n\nEven things such as the mats on the pool chairs are in great need of being replaced. And at a supposed 'world class' resport, you should not have to check beach towel out with a threat of being charged if not returned. I highly recommend St. John but not the Westin.
i'm going to keep this brief......this hotel is not worth the money. the rooms were dated and not very clean. for one the shower was frightening! there was only 1 restaurant open for dinner which was not worth the $$$. do NOT let the pictures posted fool you; like it fooled us. the pix that you see w/ the modern amenities is not what you are going to get....the pix are from the westin time share villas. if you are fortunate enough to stay at the villas then by all means go. but if you are planning on staying at the resort i would PASS!!!! i couldn't wait to go home to the comfort of my clean apt.
This the 4th year we have taken our family to this resort. It has deteriorated in quality of rooms and service. Our $*/person trip to the island from the airport on the Westin ferry was a 3 hour wait and a cab ride to an old boat. Cockroaches in our room and the beach bar. Carpet nails sticking out of carpet, which had bleach stains. Not given face clothes and hand towels daily. Also the case for our son's room which had no coffee cups, etc. Management, maintenance has slipped, no longer meets criteria for high class resort. Always loved going there but this year disappointing.
We didn't know we booked St.John, we wanted to stay in St.Thomas.There were long waits for the ferry and ferry times were not conveient. The food was overpriced and not that good. Restaurants and bars closed too early.
