Maca Bana

Maca Bana is a subtle cocktail of private villa living and boutique hotel charm; an inspiring holiday experience on one of the most beautiful and friendly islands of the Caribbean. Nature takes centre stage inside and out as each villa is individually themed from the fruit trees which hang their fruit seductively over the wooden verandas. Setting the pace for truly “green” tourism in the Caribbean, the villa roofs are bedecked with 106 solar panels which soak up the abundant sunshine as the guests lie by the infinity pool and do likewise. Each hot tub is wrapped by a hardwood deck with naturally twisted cedar balustrades screened by artfully placed bamboo. The banas (which means ‘place of dwelling’ in ancient Arawak, and maca meaning tree) were built with locally sourced materials and were designed and decorated by artist Rebecca Thompson. She also gives private art lessons for guests who share her passion, taking them to inspiring waterfalls and palm-lined beaches, sketching and painting with a picnic provided. One can also visit the working studio to see landscape paintings and discuss art appreciation over a glass of bubbly. For complete relaxation and rejuvenation the Maca Bana spa experience can be indulged in with a massage in the privacy of the villa or on the wind-kissed balcony, where one can also free the body and spirit in a one-on-one yoga session. To perfect the pampering a chef can be summoned to the villa to prepare gourmet meals, which are served overlooking the sea with pretty St. George’s harbour and the emerald mountains of Grenada in the distance. The local chefs from The Aquarium love to provide private cookery lessons to share some of their well-kept and often spicy, culinary secrets. The ingredients can be hand-picked by the guests at the owner’s fifteen acre piece of rainforest where organic vegetables and herbs are raised beneath the shade of nutmeg and cocoa trees and watered by the natural spring. Here guests can chat with the local farmers, taste the fresh spring water and sample some of Grenada’s unique hand made products such as rum, chocolate and nutmeg liqueur.
