The 10 best hotels in Salt Lake City

Discover the top hotels in Salt Lake City handpicked by local expert Sarah Kuta.

When I think about the best hotels in Salt Lake City, what comes to mind is the quick and easy access to shopping, restaurants, and attractions in Utah’s family-friendly capital. Whether you’re looking for luxury retreats or more unique establishments, you’ve got plenty of options to choose from for your next getaway. The best hotels to stay in Salt Lake City often have views of the nearby Wasatch Mountains and offer convenient perks to help you make the most of your time in the city, such as complimentary hot breakfast, free airport shuttles, and fitness centers. As you start planning your next vacation, consider taking a trip to Utah and booking a room at one of these top-rated places. I visit the city often and these are some of the very best choices to stay.

1.

Grand America Hotel

Address:

555 South Main Street

Price:

$320-2075/night

I think the best way to describe Grand America Hotel is elegant. Choose between 396 executive suites and 379 premier rooms, many of which have views of the impressive Wasatch Mountains. All of the accommodations are spacious, starting at 700 square feet and going up to 2,000 square feet, so you’ll never feel cramped here.
One of the most relaxing places at this 24-story hotel is the center courtyard, which features perfectly manicured gardens, exquisite bronze sculptures, and tranquil water foundations. It’s truly stunning and is the perfect place to spend a few calming moments outdoors, in my experience.
This hotel – which was built ahead of the 2002 Winter Olympics – also has four dining venues, including a French patisserie that specializes in indulgent and beautifully decorated pastries and desserts. If that doesn’t satisfy your sweet tooth, treat yourself to afternoon high tea, which is served every day in the lobby lounge and features either live piano or harp music.

2.

Kimpton Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City

Address:

15 West 200 South

Price:

$153-636/night

One of the reasons I recommend Kimpton Hotel Monaco Salt Lake to all my friends and family is its cheery, colorful decor. The public spaces are decorated in rich red, vivid blue, and warm golden hues, while the guest accommodations are light and airy, with strategically placed pops of color.
The hotel is steeped in history: the building dates back to the 1860s and still retains some of its original architectural features. One more reason this hotel is in my top recommendations is the top-notch list of amenities, including a yoga mat in every room and custom kids’ scooters that little ones can use for free.
There’s also a delicious on-site restaurant named Bambara and a bar and lounge called The Vault. Best of all, the Kimpton is located right downtown, just steps away from a rail stop.

3.

AC Hotel by Marriott Salt Lake City Downtown

Address:

225 West 200 South

Price:

$183-2362/night

The AC Hotel by Marriott Salt Lake City Downtown is a sleek, contemporary hotel that opened in 2018. Inspired by European design, the hotel’s 164 guest rooms have large windows that let in lots of natural light and showcase views of either the city or the nearby mountains.
In addition, the accommodations are cleverly designed to minimize clutter, which makes me feel calm and organized whenever I stay here. It’s also handy that it’s located right downtown near the Salt Palace Convention Center.
One of my favorite places to spend time at the property is the AC Lounge, which serves up craft cocktails and flavorful tapas that are perfect for sharing with friends. After an indulgent evening, start your day off right in the spacious fitness center, which is open 24/7.

4.

evo Hotel

Address:

660 South 400 W

Price:

$42-487/night

evo Hotel is one of the newest hotels in Salt Lake City, as it began welcoming travelers in February 2022. Even in such a short period of time, this unique lodging has already made a name for itself as one of the hippest places in town.
That’s because it’s the brainchild of Evo, a Seattle gear retailer, and it was designed with outdoor adventures in mind. The boutique property has 50 rooms arranged into several configurations, including kings, queens, and bunk beds.
Guests can get day passes to the Salt Lake Bouldering Project, an adjacent climbing gym and fitness center, and peruse the works of local artists hanging throughout the hotel. On the surrounding Evo campus, there’s also a coffee shop, a skatepark, two gear shops, a rooftop bar, and gear storage.

5.

Hilton Garden Inn Salt Lake City Downtown

Address:

250 West 600 South

Price:

$135-622/night

Located downtown, the Hilton Garden Inn Salt Lake City Downtown is one of the best hotels in Salt Lake City. It’s been designed with subtle touches to remind you of Utah’s surrounding mountain landscape, such as a cozy stone fireplace in the lobby and paintings of aspen trees in the guest rooms.
This property has both guest rooms and suites, and it welcomes pets with open arms. Some of the rooms connect to one another, so even if you’re traveling as a group, you can stay together.
Other useful perks include free parking, free Wi-Fi, an indoor pool, a fitness center, and meeting spaces. Dine in at on-site restaurant The Garden Grill or have their dishes delivered to your room.

6.

TownePlace Suites by Marriott Salt Lake City Downtown

Address:

135 West 200 South

Price:

$140-973/night

Whether you’re traveling for work or play, the TownePlace Suites by Marriott Salt Lake City Downtown can serve as a centrally located home base for your visit to Salt Lake City. Situated downtown near the Salt Palace Convention Center, this property has spacious studios that are equipped with full kitchens.
You’ll also feel right at home because of the comfy and functional furnishings in every studio, such as desks, lounge chairs, sofas, and dining room tables. One of the biggest benefits of staying here is the complimentary breakfast, as well as the free coffee and tea.
There’s also a large fitness center with floor-to-ceiling windows and an on-site convenience store in case you forget something. This hotel is pet-friendly, too, which is a big reason why it’s one of my go-to’s when I’m traveling with my dog, Daisy.

7.

Crystal Inn Hotel & Suites Salt Lake City

Address:

230 West 500 South

Price:

$34-557/night

This downtown option is one the top-rated hotels in Salt Lake City thanks to its central location and friendly staff. Handy amenities also help make this property stand out from the crowd, such as the hot breakfast buffet included in the price of your stay, the free airport shuttle, free parking, coin-operated laundry, and fitness area.
It not only has an indoor pool but also a hot tub and sauna. Choose between a king or double queen room, or indulge by booking a king suite with a jetted tub. For families and groups who benefit from a little extra room to spread out, Crystal Inn also has roomy king executive suites with a separate sitting area.
This property is part of a broader independent hotel group, so if you’re taking a road trip, you can also stay at other locations throughout Utah.

8.

SpringHill Suites by Marriott Salt Lake City Sugar House

Address:

2206 South 1300 East

Price:

$192-484/night

If you enjoy road-tripping as much as I do, you should consider SpringHill Suites by Marriott Salt Lake City, which is situated southwest of downtown near Interstate 80. What I find really convenient is the fact that it is located in the Sugarhouse neighborhood, which is home to lots of shops, so you can easily do a grocery run or buy a new outfit during your visit.
The hotel’s bright, peppy suites feature either a single king or double queens, but they’re all equipped with trundle beds, making it one of the best family hotels in Salt Lake City. There’s also a big fitness center on-site, as well as an indoor pool, hot tub, and complimentary breakfast.

9.

Hampton Inn Salt Lake City-Downtown

Address:

425 South 300 West

Price:

$44-515/night

The location of Hampton Inn Salt Lake City-Downtown is ideal for accessing several of the city’s biggest attractions, from the weekly summer farmers market held at Pioneer Park to the arena where the Utah Jazz pro basketball team plays. This makes it one of the best hotels to stay in Salt Lake City.
The rooms in this sunny hotel are decorated in cheerful pastel pinks and rich golden-yellow hues. There are a wide variety of accommodations to choose from at this hotel, from standard double queen rooms to spacious suites. One of the best parts about staying here is definitely the included hot breakfast, which makes it easy to get a jump start on a day of exploring Salt Lake City.
Pet parents will appreciate the fact that the property allows four-legged friends to spend the night. There’s a little market on-site for buying snacks and other essentials.

10.

Hyatt Place Salt Lake City/Downtown/Gateway

Address:

55 N 400 West St

Price:

$59-518/night

No matter what season you take your vacation, Hyatt Place Salt Lake City/Downtown/Gateway, one of the luxury hotels in Salt Lake City, is a great place to stay. It’s ideally located for families with little ones since it’s within walking distance of several fun and engaging attractions like Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum and Clark Planetarium.
The décor is classic and chic, and it incorporates warm wood and soothing neutral tones. The lobby is also gorgeous and a relaxing place to spend a few quiet moments. This hotel has free breakfast, as well as all-day dining at The Placery restaurant.
If you’re only in need of a quick snack, head to The Market, open 24 hours a day, for bottled drinks and lots of tasty, pre-packaged food options.
