The King George Hotel offers helpful staffing and a clean room. Great location near Union Square and excellent Cafe Mason restaurant next door. Parking garage just across the street.
Hotel's scale is on the cramped side with small rooms and a tiny elevator. The narrow stairs are almost spiral, not for seniors. The windows are single-pane, let in street noise. No air conditioning, just steam radiators and a ceiling fan.The proximity to Union Square justifies the hotel's rates, though they seem a little steep for what you actually get. You have to pay for parking and they don't offer even a slice of bread with the morning coffee.
The price was reasonable for a clean room in a hotel with a concierge. The location was easily accessible to public transit
It was on the verge of The Tenderloin an undesirable neighborhood and the elevator was very small and we had to weight long periods of time to get on in the morning with our bicycles

Hotel Bijou is a cute, small boutique hotel that suited our needs for our trip to San Francisco. The rooms were not large, but they were clean and bathroom was fine. The beds were not the most comfortable, but not terrible either. We were there for 3 nights and never able to connect to the WiFi for more than a second, which was frustrating, luckily we did not have much business to do on line at the time. The one thing I wish I have known, although it never became a huge problem, was that hotel is on the edge of the Tenderloin District. What that means is that the neighboring blocks, including the block that the hotel is on, is SWARMING with homeless, alcoholics and meth addicts. I am not exaggerating when I say that there could be as many as 30 of these people on any given block, which was a bit alarming and shocking. It was like NYC back in the very early 80's. We had no issues or real encounters with these people, but we did not spend much time in that area. It is a short one block w...
Yes, the noise is bad and constant (especially late night). We were on the top floor, the windows were shut and the person I was talking to on my cell phone freaked with all the sirens they heard during our conversation. The windows and walls are very thin. This didn't bother me but it may bother you (walking all day knocked me out at night). For as run down and icky as this hotel is, it is bizarrely clean! The sheets were ripped, the top blanket was full of holes, all sheets were written with permanent marker to identify the hotel and sheet size, the towels were old and threadbare, the beds felt like bad cots... but our room was seriously CLEAN! Bathroom was shiny, no mold and spotless. It was odd. My first thought when I walked in the room was, 'Take your child and run!' After I inspected closer though I realized it was just horribly run down but probably cleaner than my house. Still, it is nowhere I'd stay again. Quick Pros: - Clean - Amazing location ( 1 1/2 blocks to Nordstrom ...

It had real windows that open! Real windows can't be found in most hotels/motels and it was nice to let the cool breezes, San Francisco is known for, into my room.
The parking area was a little cramped. The hotel was built in the 50's so it could use some updates. Although the room was very basic it was large, clean, and comfortable. The staff was pleasant and helpful.
Almost everything very very unsatisfactory. Terrible bed quality, very small. Staff satisfactory. More than $-- with tax. Terrible $. Worst hotel/motel experience in 10 years, and I travel a great deal.

- location was nice - did a complementary happy hour which was nice
- expensive for the amenities and services - no air conditioner, so had to keep windows open which was noisy facing a busy street - uncomfortable bed with only two pillows -mediocre breakfast (not very good pastries) -expensive parking -expensive room occupancy tax
The room has potential to be a great SF destination. plenty of room. Mini Kitchen stocked with reasonably priced snacks and drinks. The front desk was very helpful and friendly.
Wow! The place was noisy. There was a loud group on the street that so loud that I could not sleep. That is the only reason that I did not give excellent reviews for comfort. I called the front desk, but the group never quieted down. And the group was using the N word like Donald Sterling.

I love the location. It's right in front of the Ferry building and plenty of places to eat and walk to. It's only just a nice stroll to Union Square for shopping.
I felt $64.00 for overnight parking per day is a bit much. I could stomach $50.00 but it was way too overpriced.
Staff was very helpful. Was able to check-in early. The lounge & dining options are very good. The amenities are very good. THe location was perfect for our stay.

Liked the location and how nicely appointed the hotel was
It was clean, well-appointed, in a great, central location, comfortable & staffed with friendly, welcoming, helpful staff. They even had a phone/MP3 dock w/ speakers & alarm by the bed, which was really nice & handy.
As with most SF hotels the price is a little steep, but more reasonable than many. The cable cars were a little noisy, but didn't really bother us. Valet was over $50 for 24 hrs, but that's kinda how it goes in SF.

easy walk to both Pier 39 & the Wharf.
hotel layout and elevators confusing - entrances and exits funny
It was close to Fisherman's Wharf.
I specifically asked for a room that would be away from street-type noises....I was given a room overlooking the town bus terminal! Back-up beeping, diesel engine and loud communication until after 1 AM!!! The bathroom was not clean. The tub/shower took ~ 20 minutes to drain...gross! NOT a great value overall for the high price!!! The hallways look dingy and dated.

The beds were so ooooooo comfy!
A little small but so chicly decorated it makes up for it.The weekend I stayed at this hotel the place was booked completely. It wasn't noisy though which was nice. The front desk lady let us know our bathroom door had a loose hinge. Didn't even effect our stay and I probably wouldn't even have noticed so kudos for honesty. Would stay here again.
The room was directly on Lombard St. There was no choice. The young man at the front desk was quite nice and friendly but regardless of what he says about the noise level, it was like trying to sleep under a freeway overpass. I got not a minute's sleep.

There's a muni station close by so you can get out into the city faster. Hah.
This has to be the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The pictures are false advertising. There was no air conditioning which is horrible because during the day it was mid to high 80's and imagine no air flow. The rooms are SMALL and musty. The bed takes up the entire room(its not even that big) and then maybe you have a foot of walkway? Sketchy rooms too.. just doesn't feel very safe. If it could get any worse, the toilets were almost always clogged. The restrooms and bathrooms just felt incredibly insanitary.
BEDBUGS rude staff, dirty bathrooms, small rooms...

Great staff, newly remodeled rooms and location was perfect.
I liked that we were able to find a great place on such short notice. The Manager on Duty, I think her name was Susan, was very helpful after one of the reservation agent accidentally mixed up our checkout time- and another Agent Brandon wasn't very kind to us. I ate most of my meals at the hotel, breakfast lunch and dinner- and I had three different bartender/servers during my stay that were all so very pleasant. Some even gave me directions to buy a hoodie at a nearby store because I didn't realize it would be colder there this time of year still. And the chef made me an awesome salad when I wanted to exchange tuna for chicken on the salad that comes with Lemon Dressing- it was absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend this substitution as the combination of greens and dressing go amazing with Tuna! It will cost you 2 dollars more as Tuna is more expensive (rightfully so) but it I ate the entire thing. I couldn't stop myself.
Other than the mixup on our checkout time- I was happy with my stay overall.

If you're looking for convenience and a great location with amazing customer service, pay the extra cash and stay at the the Marriott Marquis. The convenience and hospitality here was amazing. I felt like I was treated like a VIP while staying in a basic room. Housekeeping was gracious, and welcoming coming and going every single day. Anytime I needed the smallest of things they were delivered promptly (toothpaste, towels, silverware, soaps, etc). I needed some mail delivered, they took it for me. Anytime my girlfriend and I needed directions or suggestions on great places to go the information desk were our saviors. VERY knowledgeable about the entirety of San Fran. The 55th floor bar has a great view of the city, the bartender was also great. There is a little convenient store as well as Starbucks located on the main floor for convenience. Great hotel!
Extremely friendly and helpful staff. It was a great location and very close to all the hot spots within the city.
Vallet costs a lot! Also, no free WiFi in the rooms.
