The hotel is right off I-90 and a short distance from the frontage road to Spearfish Canyon. The desk clerk was cheerful and accommodating. The pool was WARM and the chlorine smell was not overpowering. The hot tub was wonderful. The room had a fridge.
That we couldn't stay longer.
Clean, quiet room; convenient hot tubs; accessible to shops, stores, restaurants & scenic areas; friendly, helpful staff who when we told them we wanted a place to relax & study, gave us the quiet spot.
WiFi needs a booster to reach desk area in far rooms. Wallpaper in bath starting to curl slightly.
I was really impressed with how quick the staff met our needs during the stay.
We didn't know we would need to request a room on the other side of the hotel; our room faced the railway and the train whistle woke us every hour.
It had a fridge and microwave. Really comfy bed.
Ice machine was way far away.
Location to Black Hills
Listed as a 3 star hotel
Easy access right off of I-90
It was old and I prefer newer
bed and pillows
It has excellent accommodations for kids but the hours for the pool should be posted more clearly (not obvious it is at 10pm when rec area is open til 11 so we missed out on swimming). And staff closed rec area at 10, too (all lights out, machines off).
Yes, the staff told us rec area open til 11 when pool closes at 10pm and they actually closed entire rec area at 10, too so doubly disappointing for our kids (and us). Also, games too expensive!! Soccer one ripped us off twice!
The beds were comfortable and the television worked.
It's advertised as having wifi. We could connect to the wifi, but most of the time we couldn't access the Internet, or it was extremely slow. Spearfish is too far away from the Black Hills attractions. Public hallways smelled bad. Pool overrun by kids.
always love HI Express....
I like the suites
The staff is not helpful and argumentative
The hotel was clean and offered fridge, microwave and coffee in room
I could hear everything that was going on in the room next to me and it wasn't a party.
The heater did not work well in room so if it would have been cold outside the room would have been cold. but there was an extra blanket.
The restaurant was amazing, I would dine there again and again!
Had to wait in line for quite some time to check in. There was only one person working the desk. But he was very nice. Please add some staff.
Staff was not friendly and unaccommodating. Room was not cleaned at all one of the days during our stay.
The location was near the Interstate and shopping.
The room had a bad smell. The staff was arrogant and very unfriendly. There was no refrig. Or microwave in the room and no continental breakfast. There a lot of 2 star hotels that provide more then this one does.
Good location, close to all the things we wanted to see.
Still in the process of renovation. Some items in room were new (furniture, wallpaper, refridgerator, microwave, tub/shower, bath countertops), some OLD (noisy/old toilet, heat/ac unit).
Was under renovation and not easy access, also no free breakfast bar
Clean hotel, very comfortable bed.
They are in the process of updating, so some parts are older. The pool area needs to be updated, which I think they were going to be doing soon.
staff was very nice
hot tubs didn't have jets that worked
Room service was decently priced, quick, and tasty.
The swimming pool closed very early
That lingering smell that hotels who once (even if it was decades ago) allowed smoking have. Strange set up, with an open layout for the pool and hot tubs.
It was pet friendly
The door to the outside did not close very well. You had to slam it to get the door to close.
I believe they sprayed the room for bugs. Next morning there was a couple of water bugs dead on the bathroom floors.
The location was great.
Thought it was a little spendy for no breakfast.
The hotel staff were so nice and apologetic to use about the horrible room they had to give us and compd us breakfast for the poor room which was the most they were able to do for us.
When we checked in we were given a room that was in the entrance way to the hotel and not in the main part of the hotel. The room stunk horribly like smoke and was so loud, because the entrance to the room was between entrance doors it was loud all night
They had the USA Today paper for free
It was old and stunk.
The floor in the hotel was soaking wet, and the comment from the staff was 'oh, well!' I would not recommend this hotel and did not deserve the star rating as noted on booking.
Noisey room by the ice machine and pool. Pizza from restaurant was really bad.
We have stayed at this hotel several times before and have had good experiences there. Our room this time was clean and what we would expect for a room - but....it's location was very strange! We were at the very end of the hall - our room door just inches from the door that goes out to the parking lot. Our room was the only room in what appeared to be an entry way with tiled floor from the outside (two doors to enter -buffers cold air from the outside) before getting into the actual hotel with carpeted hallway. With door to stairs on other side of the hallway from our door, the area outside our room door was noisy and quite busy with people going in and out of the building. We typically don't complain and request another room, but will definitely ask for a different room if we are ever given this one again! They did give us a credit for a meal at the restaurant for a future visit when we checked out and complained about the room location.
Very comfortable beds and felt room was clean although tile grout in bathroom area could use some extra cleaning. Overall, was a good stay here.
I thought it was a great hotel for the price in this area.
the staff turned the lights out on the kids in the hotel and that was dangerous for them to get out. There were dozens of people in the pool and they just came and hut the lights out. It was rude and mean. The place was very worn and dated and dingy, too.
What a nice hotel for an excellent price. We enjoyed the stay very much. The bed was so comfortable I lifted the sheets up to see what brand mattress I was sleeping on!!! We liked that the hotel was so close to Deadwood. We spent the evening in Deadwood and then had the short drive to big savings.
We stayed for a total of 4 days, 5 nights. The hotel was very clean and is staffed by very friendly, helpful people. The shuttle service is not all we expected, but that was a very small drawback to a wonderful stay. If you are going to be in the Black Hills area, this is a great location. Beautiful view and lots of local places to eat.
We arrived in Spearfish at 12:30pm. We were told the room wouldn't be ready until 4pm. Our room faced the inner courtyard which contained the swimming pool and jacuzzis. Both nights there were group(s) of people in this inner courtyard drinking and yelling, most times till 5am.
Very clean, nice room. Only trouble was spotting hotel from main road...it's a tiny bit off and up a slight hill...they could use a sign on the main road.
