The Guest House Al Portico is a charming little place run by an American woman who calls the house a “working mans palace”! The Guest House is located in the historic center of Venice, in the Cannaregio District - a 7 minute walk from the train station with only one bridge to cross! The Guest House is a real home, with 10 bedrooms for rent, all with private baths. It is an excellent location hidden slightly away from the mass tourist areas of the city. A few minutes from the Grand Canal San Marcuola boat, Jewish Ghetto, Rialto Market, Fondamenta Misericordia, truely Venetian neighborhood A courtyard greets visitors at the entrance and acts as a gathering place which is fun for happy hour! Stacy's "honesty bar" is stocked with wine, water and sometimes beer take what you like and leave your money in the box! In this house you are encouraged to relax with a glass or two of wine and meet new friends or if you prefer just take a bottle off to the privacy of your own room or up to the third floor terrace a perfect spot for sunning or an afternoon nap after seeing the cities sites! The bedrooms are all of a comfortable size, large for European standards, all have private baths. Modestly furnished and very clean with a personal, creative touch by the owner. The hostess welcomes everyone personally and strives for a friendly, home like atmosphere. Stacy conducts a “green-minded” business and openly asks guests to collaborate with her. Linens are changed on request, recycling bins are in the courtyard, water bottles go to the wine man down the street and the bookshelves and kitchen are on the honorary system. Year round, guests are welcome to use the community kitchen and throw together a meal with new friends or stay in for breakfast. Coffee & Tea are free you provide the rest! The families restaurant, La Colombina is right next door and offers a fantastic selection of fresh, seasonal foods prepared daily by owner and Chef Domenico Iacuzio. Al Portico is a typical venetian house that has been turned into a comfortable place, a lovely hotel, suitable for a limited number of people in a quite, serene and sweet place. We have got a limited number of rooms (nine), most of them with air conditioning.. There is a nice room with its private terrace; and also a common terrace at the third floor, with sight on the roofs, where you can relax in the evening or get tan in the day. At the ground floor, there is a little flowery courtyard, with tables and chairs, an excellent place where to appreciate a glass of good italian wine, and rest after your walk around Venice.
