Halii Kai at Waikoloa is a recently developed 29-acre oceanfront resort, stretched along Waikoloa's Beach Golf Course and the Pacific Ocean. Spacious two- and three-bedroom villas and townhomes are luxuriously furnished. Amenities include a cascading pool, private restaurant, fitness cabana, walking trails, and a basketball/tennis court.
This is a very LOVELY, comfortable, clean, well appointed place to stay. We were lucky to be located pretty close to the pool so we didn't have to walk very far to get to it. We were also far from the main road and it was VERY quiet. We were also on the first floor so no stairs to climb. Beach chairs, boogie board, pool noodles, cooler for food were provided which was appreciated. This is a gated community which is perfectly manicured and kept up.
If you are looking for a comfortable quiet getaway, this is it. The condo is beautifully decorated and has all the basics for preparing meals. There is a gas grill and hammocks in the common area off the lanai. The pool is spectacular though not very deep and not suited for lap swimming. We saw whales from the pool deck every day! There is a sea side trail for hiking or running that goes along the entire coast. There is not a sandy beach access close by but several snorkeling areas with rocky entry points. No life guards on duty. If you require a guard, Hapuna beach is beautiful and about half an hour north.
We enjoyed our stay at the Halii Kai. The condo was nicely furnished and clean. The balcony was nice in the morning and evening to sit and look out over the manicured gardens. Although the pool area was gorgeous and comfortable it is not really set up for children (they frown on splashing and frolicking). We went off season so there were not many children to begin with (our son is 11). However, the beach is nearby. The only suggestion I would make is to make the internet service more available. It was advertised as wi fi but it was sporadic at best and we could not access the secure connection. Overall, we had a very good experience at the Halii Kai and would definitely consider returning.
This was the first time we visit Kona and the Castle Halii Kai at Waikoloa was the perfect location. Everything was luxury, we love the condos, the pool, the free breakfast was great for the value. Great upgraded units. Lots of things to do at the pool with gym and barbecue grill. If you don't like the crowds visit this place.
We enjoyed our recent stay and would definitely recommend it to others, and would probably stay again. The location is quieter than right in Kona, which I found too congested for my taste. There is no beach access directly from this resort. Although you are ocean front, it's just black lava beach and not suitable for sunning and swimming. That didn't matter to us. There are beaches close by, some within walking distance, and apparently all beaches in Hawaii are open to the public. There is a very nice pool at this resort which is right on the ocean. This resort is one of many in the Waikoloa Beach Resort area, but you won't feel cramped. The area reminds me of an upscale residential neighborhood. There are shops, restaurants and a small grocery store on the resort, as well as a place to rent scooters and bikes. Lots of jogging and walking areas. Castle Hali'i Kai has a very small gym area that is in an outdoor kiosk and was very popular. If you're shy about working out with others, this isn't for you. While it wasn't what I had expected, it was better than nothing and certainly better than a lot of hotel fitness areas. The resort area is away from everything. If you don't want to shop or eat on the resort property, then you will need to drive into Kona to find anything else. Not a problem for us as we prefer to be in a quieter area for sleeping and relaxing than to have the convenience of being a few blocks from groceries, shopping and restaurants. It seemed to me that all of the hotels, condos, etc., in the Waikoloa Resort area were very nice and it would just depend on what is important to you as to which one you chose. Do you want a sandy beach, valet service, gift shop, etc.? Then you should probably choose one of the hotels on the property. Want to feel like you have a home away from home with all of the amenities? Then Castle Hali'i Kai fits the bill perfectly.
Just beautiful! I am very picky about cleanliness and decor and it was perfect! Would move into one if I could! Very nicely decorated...perfect kitchen! You have your own lawn if your condo is on the ground floor. Very quiet. If you are looking for a getaway, this is your place. The only downside is the sparse breakfast options but all in all this was a 9.9 on a scale of 10! My husband and I can't wait to get back!
The Halii Kai is a beautiful and well maintained property perfect for families. Each unit is decorated specifically to the owners taste. Ours was neutral with all the necessary amenities for the kitchen and beach. Our unit was clean and quiet. The beds were comfy and the towels were soft. If youre looking for a place to relax this is it! The pool is amazing. Plush wicker lounge chairs and everything you need right there with a view of the ocean. You will need a vehicle to get around however you could certainly spend your vacation close to the resort. Great beaches are within a 5 to 15 minute drive #40the Mauna Kea was our favorite#41. Theres a market just down the road with several shops and restuarants. Halii Kai is on the dry side of the island but you can take day trips to any other part of the island because of its location. Just realize it is called the Big Island for a reason because you will spend time driving to tour all the sights. We can not wait to return.
Compared to other condo units in Waikoloa, Hali'i Kai was a great bargain at that time. We loved the 3 bedroom condo in building 3 as it afforded the 5 of us ample room to stretch out and be comfortable. There were several necessary items available to us as well, such as boogie boards, beach mats and chairs, and kitchen spices. That was nice. The condo and full kitchen were outstanding, and the grounds were well manicured and beautiful. While we didn't have an ocean view (units with the ocean view were rare, if not impossible to get), the sight of Mauna Kea from the front of the unit was breathtaking. The lagoon style pool area was excellent, with a grilling area and more than enough room for everyone. The hot tub has a sandy bottom, which was great, but it was out of service for about half of our stay. The private restaurant and menu at the pool area were terrific, if somewhat limited. The kids loved the crispy chicken wings, and the fish tacos were the best I have ever had. Make sure you ask XYZ at the bar to make you a Mai Tai. You won't be dissapointed. If you want to talk some hockey, XYZ is knowledgeable and passionate about that too. My only problem with the restaurant and bar is it closes too early (7:00). People who venture out for all the Big Island has to offer can't get back to Waikoloa in time for dinner. Over all, we loved Hali'i Kai and would definitely come back again.
Outstanding/clean/secure/beautiful are but a few words to identify our quarters - would go their again
My husband, son and I traveled to Kona in May 2009 for the second time. I have to say this place was fantastic!!!! The was clean the staff was super friendly and the view was just perfect. When we travel in 2010 we will definitely go back.
Place was awesome as far as condos go...pool area had a great view...food at the pool was great...could have paid a lot more for a condo in other developments that had crap locations.
