The Hotel has a rich history and whilst most of the present building dates to around 1850, parts of the hotel date back much further, possibly to before 1700. The Mersey Hotel sits on the trans-pennine way and is currently under new ownership. A short walk along thew Victoria Promenade will bring the visitor to both the Catalyst Science Museum and Spike Island (recently featured in the film of the same name).
