How about a day trip to…Antarctica? |
Yes, it’s possible, folks. Adventurous travelers with polar gear can now day-trip to Antarctica. Not surprisingly, a chance to spend eight hours on the world’s most remote continent doesn’t happen everyday (or come cheap).
If you want in on the next trip, scheduled for Nov. 29, you’ll have to plunk down $9,670 for a seat on the private jet making the five-hour flight from Cape Town to Antarctica.
After touching down, passengers head to White Desert, the only on-ice lodging option on the continent, to spend eight hours trekking the remote landscape, hanging out with penguins and visiting ice grottos. Polar gear, a stint in a sauna and a Champagne lunch are also part of the experience, all of which takes place amid balmy temperatures hovering in the low 20’s, typical for the warmer months of the year when the day trips take place.
Longer stays at White Desert are offered in November and December, including a 10-day mountaineering adventure and a three-day trip that includes the option of visiting the geographical South Pole.
