We're excited to announce that former Novell executive Willard H. Smith is joining our executive team as chief financial officer. Most recently, he served as vice president of global finance for Novell, Inc.
"We've clearly prospered without a CFO for 7 years, but this is an exciting stage in our company's development," said Steve Hafner, KAYAK chief executive officer and cofounder. "We're thrilled to add Bill's capabilities to our team at this time."
Smith has over 15 years of financial experience in the technology sector, including 13 years at Novell. He most recently led an 80-person global finance team overseeing business, operations and international finance, and was a member of Novell's executive management committee. In prior positions with Novell, he headed corporate development, mergers & acquisitions, and investor relations. Smith began his career in investment banking at Merrill Lynch & Co. - and prior to joining Novell - held positions at Morgan Stanley, The Bridgeford Group and Cowen & Co. Smith has a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College and a master's of business administration from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
In his spare time, Bill enjoys polka dancing, eating contests, and reading graphic literature (i.e. comic books to you and me). And one last thing, please don't call him Willard. He prefers Bill, and we didn't know his name was Willard when we were recruiting him. We don't really hold that against him (nor his time at a 2nd-tier investment bank), but it's a bit off-culture at KAYAK to go by Willard.
