AA Unveils New Biz Class Seats

american airlines business class seatsLotsa buzz about American Airlines and its new business class seats today. You won't find the new seats in AA planes just yet, but the airline is planning to revamp business class seating in its larger planes (Boeing 767-300, Boeing 777) over the next year, give or take. While some airlines offer seats that recline completely, American Airlines seats will only go part of the way back (9 degree angle), but a lot further than regular airline seats. Sort of like a Lazy Boy in the sky. The seats will also have their own on-demand entertainment systems stocked with movies and audio selections. Not that I'll personally ever have the extra cha-ching to pay for a ride in one of these new seats, but one can always peer at them enviously as one schleps towards the coach cabin with all the other plebes. While the Washington Post is optomistic about the seats in story American to Revamp Business Class on Jets (and repeatedly describes them as lying flat, which they technically do not), the Wall Street Journal also did a piece on the new seats today (sorry, can't link to it b/c I only get the paper version) that is less enthused. According to the WSJ, the upgrade costs could be considered more money than they're worth, especially since the latest and greatest seats of today will likely be outdated in just a few years' time. All v. inneresting stuff.
