Just when many thought airlines were done adding new fees for checked luggage and other services, one airline is telling passengers, not so fast. Today, Virgin America announced that it will begin charging economy passengers flying on restricted fares $15 for the first checked bag starting May 5, 2009.
But this is bad news that comes with a bit of a silver lining. At the same time the low-cost carrier best-known for its swanky economy cabins outfitted with mood-lighting and jazzy seatback entertainment consoles is adding new fees for the first checked bag, it is significantly lowering fees for additional checked bags.
