The folks at the Webby Awards, which take place today in New York, have gifted EarthCam with the People's Voice Award for Best Tourism site. I had not checked EarthCam out before (I'm usually nonplussed by web cam images), but the site is pretty cool. You can view a huge variety of live videos from all around the world. For a traveler, nothing beats the real thing. But when you can't actually get there, seeing an everyday view of a place provides insight that you won't be able to glean from stylized images in magazines and guide books.
