The Dunsley Hall Country Hotel, an 18-room Victorian country house in the UK, has an interesting proposition for future guests: Instead of paying for your room with currency, try bringing a fattened up ewe instead. Or perhaps several tons of grain to trade for a quick weekend getaway to the British countryside. Or all those bales of hay you've been dying to get rid of. The unusual promotion began as a way to allow local farmers to take a nice break after harvest time, but the hotel's owner has begun offering the deal to non-farming folk as well. Livestock and foods exchanged for hotel accommodations end up on the hotel owner's working farm in Ramsdale.
But don't just show up with a herd of sheep. All payments made in trade must be agreed upon with the hotel before guests' arrival.
