Kazakhstan vs. Boratistan Tours |
With newfound pop-culture icon status thanks to the movie Borat, Kazakhstan is starting to use the jokes about its people and culture to entice American tourists to visit. Tour operator Sayat is now offering a "Kazakhstan vs. Boratistan" tour designed to show Americans the real Kazakhstan, not the one that exists in Sacha Baron Cohen's imagination.
The week-long tour begins in Almaty where travelers visit Chimbulak ski area. The next stop is Taraz, where the schedule features visits to an 11th century mausoleum, an underground cave and an underground lake. From there, the tour heads to the Aksu Dzhabagly Nature Preserve, he 6th Century Sairam settlement, an underground temple and the Kazygurt National Park. Guests will spend one night sleeping in a Kazakh yurt, a traditional nomadic house. They will also be able to visit the site of the Noah's Ark landing. The tour ends with a day in neighboring Turkestan.
