Liquid Ban Revised; Some Toiletries Allowed |
If anyone is doing the dance of joy today, it's gotta be a) Ziploc bag executives and b) post-security airport vendors. Newly "refined" security measures that go into effect at U.S. airports tomorrow allow liquids and gels purchased from restaurants and shops located in areas of airports that are past the security check points. At the same time, travelers will be able to bring toiletry items of no more than 3 oz. through security screening as long as the items fit comfortable in a one-quart size clear plastic bag.
Sounds like a nightmare waiting to happen at security gates, but then, at least you can bring lip gloss, water, hand lotion and other simple sundries onboard your next flight. The whole clear plastic bag thing is sort of nutty in my opinion, but I guess they are trying to limit the amount of liquid any one person can bring into the airplane cabin.
The new rules don't make traveling with just a carry-on practical for many people, but they are a step towards returning to the good 'ole days when we all jockeyed for overhead cabin space like it was the last pocket of oxygen in a sinking ship.
