London Transit Strike Strands Tourists

London Underground A reader wrote in to comment about the London transit strike that I posted briefly about earlier, and I thought I'd post it up here. I feel for anyone who is in London right now and having issues getting around town. It's a big place - and the Tube is key to a smoothly operating central London. Anyway, here are one reader's comments on the subject:
I understand the use of strike to negotiate labor conditions, however this is more than a little frustrating for those of us who are visiting London with the sole purpose of celebrating the New Year. I am from the southern United States & this is not only my first trip to London, but my first to Europe as well. I had hoped to be able to celebrate the New Year in one of the largest cities in the world, but now it looks as if we will be here in our room watching it on television, as there will be so much ridiculous traffic clogging the streets. Thank you ladies and gentlemen of the RMT for spoiling the only plans we had made for our vacation to London.
