Marriott Nashville Room 1051 Now Among Infamous Hotel Rooms of the World

It looks like rooms 1051 and 1049 at the Marriott Nashville at Vanderbilt University can now officially claim their rightful spots on hotel scandal lists alongside such notorious rooms as Room 100 of the Chelsea Hotel and the Presidential Suite of the Adlon in Berlin.

Over the weekend, David Barrett was arrested for allegedly filming ESPN sportscaster Erin Andrews through a peephole while she was naked in Room 1051 at the Marriott Nashville. According to news reports, Barrett is accused of requesting the room adjacent to Andrews', using a hacksaw to alter the room's peephole, illegally filming her with a cellphone video camera and subsequently attempting to sell the now-infamous video footage of Andrews naked to media outlets such as TMZ.com. Even more disturbing, Barrett may have also filmed Andrews on another occasion while both were staying at the Ramada Conference Center Milwaukee.

Many of the circumstances surrounding this bizarre hotel crime have yet to come out. As Barbara De Lollis of USA Today's Hotel Check-In suggests in her post about the incident, it seems odd that a hotel would permit a stranger to specifically request a room next to a known public figure or celebrity guest. Shouldn't that have sounded a few warning bells?
