Our Top Labor Day Destinations |
|

Don't let the last holiday of the summer pass you by. The spirit of Labor Day, falling on September 7th this year, is to enjoy a day off from work with family and friends while the summer heat is still here. Read up on our top destinations to celebrate this holiday.
1) New York, NY - Did you know that the first ever Labor Day parade was held in New York City? Now, more than 100 years later, the tradition continues. Marching bands, floats, firefighters, and more, will take to the streets of Manhattan starting at 10 a.m. the Saturday after Labor Day (September 12). Other Labor Day options may include a walk through Central Park, a Major League Baseball game, or a free Staten Island ferry ride.
2) Detroit, MI - The Motor City is celebrating its 30th anniversary of the International Jazz Festival. The four-day event kicks off September 4th, and attracts some of the best jazz musicians who take turns providing free entertainment on the five different stages. Giant puppets, street performers, and a children's Kid Bop area are a few of the added pleasures. Already 100 acts have been scheduled to take the stage.
3) Washington, D.C. - On Sunday, September 6, the National Symphony Orchestra will put on a free concert on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. After the music, head to the major league ballpark (Nationals Park) where tickets for children 12 and younger can be purchased for $1 with an accompanying adult ticket.
4) Lake Tahoe, CA - Take advantage of some of the last warm days to be out on the lake. South Lake Tahoe will host a firework extravaganza that features a simultaneous musical broadcast on local radio stations. Two pyrotechnic firms hired to plan the event have claimed it to be one of the largest shows in the West based on volume of fireworks. To get a good view of the fireworks you may want to reserve a dinner paddlewheeler cruise or bring a blanket to a nearby beach.
5) National Parks - Labor Day should be enjoyed outdoors. Camp out along a river, take a hike thorough a shaded forest of pine trees, or simply enjoy the peacefulness of nature at its finest. A couple top recommendations include: Yosemite, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Rocky Mountain National Park, and Zion National Park. Day passes to national parks are very reasonably priced and are often billed per car, so bring your friends and family.
