Tip #5: Always ask hotels and inns you plan to visit whether they offer any special deals for guests arriving by car. Many hotels around the U.S. have promotional offers that include vouchers or gift cards for gas. In general, it's the smaller, independent inns that are offering the deals. Guests typically need to stay for at least two nights, usually between Sunday and Thursday, to qualify for rebates or gift cards.
While this certainly isn't an exhaustive list of hotels and inns offering gas specials to guests, it should give you a decent idea of what's out there:
New York: The Paramount Hotel New York will refund up to $30 to guests who produce a receipt for gas purchased within 24 hours of their arrival (June 29-Sept. 4).
New York: The River Run Bed & Breakfast gives guests who mention the Tanks-A-Lot promotion when they make their reservation a $20 gift certificate to a local gas station (through June 30).
Connecticut: The Inn at Harbor Hill Marina offers mid-week guests who stay two nights or more a $25 gas rebate (through June 30).
Kentucky: The 1851 Historic Maple Hill Manor offers mid-week guests who stay two nights or more a $25 gas rebate. Mention rebate when booking (through December 31).
Maryland: The Stonebow Inn offers $10-40 towards gas purchases depending on length of stay (through May 24).
Vermont: The Arlington Inn offers guests who stay two mid-week nights or more a $25 gas card and local map (through June 29).
Illinois: The Beall Mansion offers guests who mention the Tanks A Lot program when they reserve stays of two mid-week nights or more a $25 gas card at check-in (through September). http://www.beallmansion.com
Missouri: The city of Springfield is offering $40 gas gift cards to visitors who vacation in the area during 2006. To receive the gift card, travelers must stay for two nights at a participating hotel, buy at least two tickets to the Wonders of Wildlife Museum & Aquarium and get a validation stamp from Bass Pro Shops. Pennsylvania: The Inn at Starlight Lake offers $25-50 off room rates depending on guests' length of stay (through June 30).
New Mexico: The Hawthorne Suites Ruidoso is offering a $50 gas card to guests who stay two nights or more.
