Travelocity Offers Carbon Offsets |
| Travelocity has begun offering carbon off-sets with purchases. What, you may be wondering, are carbon offsets (0r perhaps you're a crunchy traveler already armed with that information)? The idea is this: Purchase a carbon offset that basically covers the cost of zeroing out the effect of the carbon emissions produced by your trip. So you can travel in a gas-guzzling rental car or fly in a gas-gussling airplane, but still feel like you're doing something to counteract the effects of excess environmental pollution. The extra $ you pay goes entirely to The Conservation Fund, which uses the money to plant trees and preserve U.S. forests and wetlands. According to Travelocity, a $10 contribution offsets the carbon emissions incurred by an average vacation that includes a flight, one night in a hotel and a car rental. A $25 add-on will offset flights, four nights in a hotel and a rental car for two people. For $40 extra, you can feel environmentally responsible about flights, a four-night hotel stay and rental car for four people. Customers have the option to purchase carbon offsets at check-out.
