 Want to know the average fare paid for a flight between two U.S. airports was in 2006? You can find information for average airfares in the U.S. Department of Transportation's Domestic Airline Fares Consumer Report, released in Dec. 2006. The report includes data taken from the second quarter of 2006, so it doesn't reflect what happened last fall, but should give you a fairly accurate picture of the fare landscape at your home airport. As a 43-page PDF, the report is a bit clunky for the average traveler, but it's still a good resource if you can stomach all the numbers.
