World Meatball Eating Championship |
So classy, it could only be held in Atlantic City. This Saturday, the World Meatball Eating Championships will be held outside Carmine's restaurant in Atlantic City's Tropicana Casino and Resort.
By the way, this information led me to discover that there is an International Federation of Competitive Eating. Who knew?
If you think you can pack it with the best of them, you could win $2,500. But, considering that last year's winner scarfed down six pounds of meatballs in 12 minutes, you'll probably just end up penniless and laid up in the bed battling a food coma.
Here's the most interesting thing: you'd think that winner, a.k.a. Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas, would be more beast than woman. But you'd be wrong. That's her, up there, in the picture! The reigning world champion meatball eater (who also happens to be the top female competitive eater in the country) weighs in at a mere 105 lbs. What? Talk about not judging a book by its cover.... Among her other accomplishments: downing 8.4 lbs of baked beans in under three minutes, 167 chicken wings in 32 minutes, 65 hardboiled eggs in six minutes and an entire 8 lb. Turducken in 12 minutes.
