When driving in Kosovo, it is imperative to note that Kosovo laws require drivers to use the left lane instead of the right. As a visitor, you can drive around provided you have a valid driving license from your home country. Still, it is recommended that you carry your international driving license. Remember that the roundabouts in this country have three lanes, and as you approach any one of them, slow down to give way to cars inside the roundabout. The road signs in major towns are displayed in both Serbian and Turkish names.
You must be aged 21 years or older before you rent a car in Kosovo. In addition, the age requirement may vary depending on the car model and category that you want to hire. Furthermore, you must possess a valid license, which you must have had for at least 12 months. Some car rental companies may impose a young driver surcharge for renters younger than 25. Remember that this young driver surcharge is paid at the rental counter.
The average gas prices in Kosovo are currently a little over 4 EUR (4 USD), and the litter is retailing at 1 EUR (slightly more than 1 USD). As you compute the gas prices, remember that the euro is the official currency of Kosovo, and it might thus be helpful to first convert your dollars into euros before computing the prices. Also, remember that the gas prices may vary slightly as you move away from the high settlement areas where most gas stations are found. Therefore, fill up your gas tank before starting the trip.
When driving around in Kosovo, remember to adhere to the set speed limits, or risk getting punitive penalties in case you violate them. Also, note that the speed limits are expressed in km/h. If you are cruising on green lanes, maintain a speed limit of 130 km/h (81 mph), but as you approach the open roads, do not drive beyond 80 km/h (50 mph). The speed limit in towns and cities is set at 50 km/h (31 mph) in towns and cities.
