However, nonstop flights to other Japanese destinations from Chicago are difficult to find and are usually not available. If you are looking for a direct flight, it’s best to fly into NRT and continue your journey to your destination via public transport.

  • Which airport is closest to Mount Fuji?

  • What is the Hacker Fare option on flights from Chicago to Japan?

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets in order to save you money over a traditional round-trip ticket. You could then fly to Japan with an airline and back to Chicago with another airline.

  • What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight from Chicago to Japan?

Sometimes travel dates aren't set in stone. If your preferred travel dates have some wiggle room, flexible dates will show you all the options when flying to Japan from Chicago up to 3 days before/after your preferred dates. You can then pick the flights that suit you best.

Top tips for finding cheap flights to Japan

  • Morning departure is around 2% cheaper than an evening flight, on average*.
  • If you are flying from Chicago to Japan on a budget, consider flying into either Tokyo or Sapporo. These are the cheapest airports to fly into from Chicago with prices just under $1,000. Furthermore, flights to Tokyo’s Narita International Airport (NRT) are fairly frequent from Chicago.
  • If you are hoping to visit many different destinations within Japan, flying to NRT will be the most convenient option. Tokyo is centrally located on the island and it is well-connected to the rest of the country both by air and by rail. Tokyo’s Haneda Airport (HND) is a hub for domestic flights in Japan, so this is an option as well.
  • If you are about to fly long-haul to any city in Japan, visit Chicago O’Hare’s Yoga Room to unwind and relax a little before your flight. The yoga room is located on the mezzanine level of Terminal 3 and is open daily from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. The yoga room is equipped with video monitors displaying techniques and a changing room.
  • If you are looking for a nonstop flight to Japan from Chicago, you are in luck. Several airlines, such as American Airlines and United Airlines, offer nonstop flights from Chicago to Tokyo’s Narita International Airport (NRT).
  • If you are not flying into Tokyo, you can still find flights with only 1 or 2 stops along the way to other major cities in Japan such as Okinawa, Sapporo, Osaka, and Nagoya. American Airlines and Japan Airlines are the airlines most likely to offer flight routes with only one stopover along the way.

JAL flights are the best. You pay a bit more but you get great services.

Upon disembarkation in Tokyo, there was no immediate visible screen showing the gates for the next flight. We didn’t know which way to proceed. Someone working at the airport helped.

The extra leg room and been able to recline better is worth the extra money. I bidding on the premium and offered the least they would accept and got it.

It was a good flight. I would highly recommend it to family and friends.

The employees were professional and efficient. I consider myself a traveler but have trouble with the international fare served on airplanes. I admit Americans buy their food in the supermarket and we typically don’t eat the ligaments and cartilage. I know that is whiny but as I age, I dislike it more. At least things weren’t covered in cheese. The desserts are terrible! My neighbor didn’t eat her bread so I asked if I could have it. First time for everything but had been traveling a total of 27 hours and was hungry.

The night flight was only 2/3 full, which is always a plus. Room to stretch out for sleeping. Gracious stewardesses, attentive, and slim/attractive (which is rare these days). Good food, and curtesy wine.with meals. Comfortable seats and decent leg room (economy class)

On time service. Seat comfort and the crew service very good .

Only one Hindi movie from LAvto Taipei and same movie from Taipei to Singapore Really horrible and we call it entertainment???

Food was ok. Could have been better. Entertainment was limited, especially for kids.

I wish the app was more user friendly. I wanted to upgrade my seats, but could not from the app. The gate agent said you can only upgrade from the website.

The crew was very helpful. Food was prepared with great care and tasted wonderful. Movie selection was a bit limited. The bedding on the seat is a little too thin for sleeping.

• Crew obviously hate their job • We were placed in the very back of the airplane even though we checked in 4+hrs before our flight • We were given food but since we were in the back of the plane, we were rushed to throw it away. • This was the most unorganized boarding experience. They just called “Group 1” to board and after that, it was chaos. Everyone was confused and they only spoke in Chinese.

The food was good, but we are not able to use earphones to watch a movie.

We purchased premium economy seats 9 months ago and got bumped to economy when we tried to board the plane. It was a huge fiasco while they struggled to find us seats. I tried reaching out to Kayak to see how we can get refunded for the extra money we spent on premium but have heard nothing back. It was a 14 hour flight and were disappointed that we lost our seats after selecting them 9 months ago.

Flight was overall OK: lovely staff and smooth travelling. The only downside was no food was available on a 3.5 hour flight over lunchtime. Luckily we had realised this in advance and brought our own bento.

The whole flight in Economy was great, the crew were just amazing and the food was great as well

Crew went out of their way for me, not often

Lots of legroom for a small flight. There was in flight entertainment even though it is a short duration. We waited on one passenger to board for a long time after everyone else was on.

At Fukuoka, check in counter stuff was no experience , took long time and took out our preserved sheets to change to emergency exit seats without asking. The flight was late and we missed the flight to go back to SF. My luggage was broken. I had a terrible experience.

Chair was broken. Crew was awesome. Food was eh. Dinner food not so good the sandwich was good ( for airplane food) headphones hurt my ears. It’s hard because no one has plug in earphones

Fast boarding. Cabin temperature was a bit warm, but I guess this is the standard in ANA. The Room seats are spacious, but not long enough for me.

ANA crews are superb, very responsive and caring. Boarding was smooth and so as the landing. Great flights we had with ANA.

Great service, wonderful meals, excellent entertainment, clean bathrooms, top notch experience

Underpricer was terrible. They wanted to charge me $150 for a seat asignment. Kayak is responsible for letting this happen. Please let me know if this is going to happen in the future. If it is i will not use kayak in the future.

Checking in was hard because we had to enter our middle name with our first name and wasn’t told to. The representative from underpricer investigated it and called me back. We were very appreciative for him.

One of the best economy flights I’ve ever taken .

Minimal legroom. Most passengers are respectful and don't recline. Outrageous long walk from Terminal One to Terminal Three.

Good, not excellent. We’re not informed about mattress pads in business class. My partner ordered food and didn’t get it

I said the boarding was just par with other airlines, but I can't think of a way to improve it.

The flight was canceled, and the airlines stated that they don't know when they can put me on another flight. I had to purchase another flight from a different airline. I am now having issues requesting a refund. What a nightmare experience, I will not refer anyone to this airline.

Enjoyed flying Japan Airlines! Staff were all nice & flight was comfortable.

It was a quick and comfortable flight. There was no entertainment or food so I gave them poor marks. I wasn’t really expecting either so wish there was a NA option. Great flight with more leg room than my longer, overseas seating!

Particularly meals were great. Service’s were excellent as usual. .

They need to improve their boarding process. Group 1 and/or paying first class passengers shouldn't be in the middle of boarding process

late departure due to some unspecified issue with ventilating the cabin. They got it running but it was FREEZING for the whole flight. I asked for a blanket but they didn't provide one. They could not turn up the heat. it was quite miserable.

We were delayed because of ground crew, not because the plane wasn’t ready to go. The food was better than usual!

I still prefer Delta, but Delta doesn’t fly to State College PA.

Everything was fantastic. Modern plane. All the amenities! Although the paid snacks and meals are pure robbery. Like i understand airlines need to make money, but 11$ USD for an overnight oats with some nuts in it and barely any pieces of apple.... Highway robbery

United needs to figure out its Economy PLUS standards; its better than economy but that's not saying much. It seems like United stripped away all the basics for an international flight (such as In Seat entertainment) and repackaged some of them as plus. Would not fly United internationally again.

The flight was bumpy. No Breakfast or coffee was served, not even a bottle of water. The food was okay but odd. Rice with peas instead of couscous with some unknown green thing. United Airlines did not tell me that there was VERY LIMITED HANDICAP SERVICE IN NAPLES. De-plane via 20 aluminum steps. Taken to Van. You must walk into the terminal, find luggage, and then walk out to the rental car pickup spot that is 1 block from the terminal.

Crew did their best but the plane configuration is too tight if you're bigger than an average sardine. Controls for the entertainment system didn't all work. The aircraft hadn't been cleaned in awhile.

Flight was delayed due to weather and clogged toilet. Had to deplane. Flight was 3 hours delayed. Crew was awesome and offered water and snacks.

Didn't make it dir to delays - no support from United staff

The people are great! The trip to Japan is simply never ending!!! Not the problem of the airlines, though.

United agent at FLL excellent - due 55 min conx at ORD rerouted us on an earlier departure via DEN and got home 5 hours earlier than expected

I bought a ticket from Brussels to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA via Montreal. When I went to the airport, I learned that I needed a Canadian visa. When I bought the ticket online, there was no warning saying "If you are not a US or Canadian citizen; You need a Canadian visa." I asked for my money back, but the staff at the airport said they couldn't help me. I said, "Make the ticket open, I'll fly later," and they said no. I looked for this information on Air Canada's website. They've hidden it so well that it's impossible to find it easily. I understand that Air Canada makes millions of dollars in unfair profits by selling tickets this way. Why don't they ask when purchasing? They don't ask; because they're making money. Every year, perhaps thousands of tickets are subject to this situation. I will use all my rights and complain everywhere. Maybe they won't give me my money back, but I would advise anyone buying ticket to be careful from now on.

Friendlier staff who are nice to the elderly who need assistance

They intentionally delayed the flight by half an hour to accommodate a few fools who didn’t show up in time to clear customs. I missed my connector, missed an important meeting, and was charged a rebooking fee. Never again

Never flew with AirCanada before. Was a super duper flight every time and on time! No changes or delays!

Everything went very smoothly and the staff was courteous and friendly. I was really happy and pleased with how well the plane was flown because the departure, descent and landing were really smooth with no sudden drops. The plane’s interior was clean and nice and new in appearance.

it was good but would be better if there were more clear directions as to how to clear or circumvent customs in Montreal.

People were very nice and helpful. But the plane is noisy, and crowded. Seats are too small. Plane was too cold too. Air Canada app is very slow. Couldn't upgrade seats to the next section. Also surprised that basic economy seats were actually standby.

People were very nice and helpful. But the plane is noisy, and crowded. Seats are too small. Plane was too cold too.
