FAQs - booking Albania flights

  • What airports are located in Albania?

Flights to Albania from the U.S. land at Tirana Airport (TIA), the country’s only major international airport. Located about 11 miles northwest of Tirana’s city center, TIA is also convenient to most of the other major cities in the country. It is about 18 miles east of Durrës, 35 miles northwest of Elbasan, 52 miles south Shkodër, and 92 miles northeast of Vlorë.

  • What are the passport and visa requirements when traveling from the United States to Albania?

Travelers need to take a valid passport with them on their trip, and this passport needs to stay valid for at least 90 days beyond your date of arrival in Albania. If you are a citizen of the United States, there is no need to obtain a visa to travel to this country. If you plan on staying in the country for more than one year, you will need to apply for a residency permit.

  • If I plan on renting a car in Albania, what are some of the child seat laws I need to know about?

In this country, any child up to the age of four years old needs to travel in some type of child restraint seat. Children under the age of 12 can only travel in the front seat of a vehicle if they have an appropriate child restraint device. It is important for travelers with children to remember that car seat laws only apply to passenger vehicles but not to taxis, where children only need to ride in the rear seat of the vehicle.

  • Can I take a bus or train from Tirana Airport (TIA) to Tirana’s city center?

Although there is no train service from TIA, you can take a Rinas Express bus, which departs hourly to the city from the airport. The bus ride takes about 30 minutes, and buses are available from the early morning until late at night.

  • If I want to travel to a coastal city such as Vlore in Albania, what is the best way to get there?

Since the Tirana International Airport is the only airport that offers international service from the United States, travelers need to fly to this airport first. Once your flight arrives at the airport, there is a dedicated airport shuttle that will make the trip to this city in around 2h 30min. Alternatively, passengers can travel to the Brindisi Airport (BDS) in Italy, and then take the ferry provided by Starlines or European Seaways to Vlore in around 7h 30min.

You can certainly fly from Montenegro’s Podgorica Golubovci Airport (TGD) to Albania and the flight to Tirana International airport (TIA) will take aproximately 3h 35 min. Another more convenient solution would be renting a car from the airport. Almost all car rental companies will allow you to travel from Montenegro to Albania. However, you should notify your rental car company in advance that you will be traveling out of the country, and your rental company may charge a small fee if you leave the country. Also, you may need to pay an additional fee for car insurance or show proof that you have coverage of your own that will cover a rental car; be sure to carry this proof with you as you travel.

  • What airport in Albania is closest to Vlorë?

TIA is about 92 miles to the northeast of Vlorë, making it the closest airport to the coastal city. However, if your travel plans include visiting Greece, you may want to consider arriving at Corfu Airport (CFU) on the Greek island of Corfu, which is located about 121 miles south of Vlorë.

  • Are there any airports in the United States that offer direct flights to Albania?

There are no airports in the United States that offer direct flights to Albania. There are several airports in the United States that offer one-stop flights, including Chicago O' Hare International Airport (ORD), Denver International Airport (DEN), Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL), and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).

  • If I am planning on traveling to Albania for the Kala Music Festival, what is going to be the best way to get there from the United States?

This festival takes place in the city of Dhermi, which is a beautiful seaside destination along the southern coast of Albania. Most travelers visiting will fly from the United States to the Tirana International Airport. Friendly staff, always good food , as comfortable as it can be in economy

Business class is not worth it. Not comfortable and old plane with no privacy or enough space unless you on the single seats

We didn’t fly into Neuark , because it departed without us . We ran to a closed gate , and no staff to assist, then to a customer service center that was also closed, then briskly walked (20mins) to another customer center and got a ticket , waited 2 hours , got a flight to JFK instead, because of the time delay we Ran to catch our train home , and again our luggage arrived 3 days later delivery time at 3:45 in the MORNING!!!! Crazy!!!!!! Took a few days to shake off this disappointment of your service. You’re an embarrassment to customer service .

A bellow average experience. A delayed flight , no staff to assist , running and panic to connecting flight , 2 hour wait for customer service. No luggage when we arrived , luggage delivered 3 days after at 3:45 AM !!!! Much stress and anxiety from this experience. Please repair your Brand .

My luggage was lost and I did not receive any compensation

Pleasant up to Vienna. Afterward (Vienna- Zagreb) was an horrific experience

Leg room and seat back not a good recline (middle seat)

The option to check in the carry on bag for free was very convenient. If one checked bag could be included in the ticket price that would be even better.

They never gave any meal during the flight. We’ve flown for years and then doing this now is ridiculous.

Austrian airlines lost my bag in Vienna and it took 2 days to find it and deliver it to me

Turkish Airlines apparently no longer gives you 2 checked bags allowance on international flights, so that pleasure cost me $165 for my second suitcase at the airport. On top of that, they damaged that very suitcase, which happens to be a designer one and part of a set - ripped one of the four wheels right off.

Pretty standard for long haul international flying. Food was fine, tv/movie selection was great, wifi did not work at all, crew was pleasant enough.

Very poor service. Not friendly and special food ordered but not served

Very bad from ISTACC leg of flight specifically the seats. These seats are for economy not for Business class. I suppose when flying to a third world country you can fly any craft and no one questions it. I was very disappointed for that leg of the flight. This needs to change.

Was an excellent experience I have been flying Turkish Airlines for 5 years and always will

It was good. Turkish Airlines is one of the best airlines companies. I like a lot to travel with them

Four of my family members was settled in a different seats. I paid extra $200 dollars for 4 seats just to be all together, but they settled us on separated seats. After a lots of time they put us 2 and 2. My kids are 9 and 13 . How i can leave them alone???

It is much better than other airlines but not the best for the price

I did not like the quality of the food and there was no snacks offered between meals.

Awful seats, poor air circulation. Smelled like poop for 3-5 mins after someone used the bathroom. Child screaming for 13 hours

Staff was great. Space in bathrooms was very good. Boarding went smoothly due to aisles. I would like more room in coach. 2 more inches would be helpful. Lost luggage was a big issue; more on the administrative side than flight related, but diminished the flight experience.

Good but entertainment system was not easy and very buggy

Actual flight was smooth but we were delayed 70 minutes. Were promised to make it up to us but were given no refreshments

Flight was cancelled and I got rebooked with anther airline. Also had booked a direct flight and got a layover.

Did not fly HOU to SAT as flight was cancelled.

Very nice. Crew was excellent and our seats had great legroom which we paid extra for so I highly recommend this option when flying internationally.

Zero legroom or space in economy. Flight was delayed into Munich causing a missed connecting flight and other missed bookings. :(

Not good. They charged an additional $70 to check a bag we had already paid for on line with Lufstansa

They gave us free up grade to a roomier seat.

A major problem at the Frankfurt terminal. You see your connecting flight is on concourse A and you see signs for A, but when you start to walk out to A, only then do you find A is in another terminal which requires a bus ride, passport control and customs. If you sit around in the first terminal too long, you can miss your flight. We made ours.

No fast track available, no organisation. Unpleasant boarding system at gate 20 at JFK. When giving feedback to the lounge team I was told to talk to the manager instead of taking the feedback.

The whole experience was great. The only improvement would be the entertainment selection

Flight attendant kept banging her cart into my aisle seat. Hard. Couldn’t lean seat back. Should be warned of limitations when booking seat

I will travel by BA only in future also. Only suggestion is they should give aisle seat in front near washroom for senior citizens

Economy extremely cramped. Dinner was not good. Breakfast was quite good. Crew was excellent.

It was good overall. Entertainment was ok, one of the TV screens had issue. Bit old plane but leg space was good. Overhead luggage had good space. The worst part was experience at Heathrow airport, it was total chaos.

Comfortable, pleasant staff, quiet, good entertainment, food, drinks. Better than American (flight back) when we were crammed in and staff sometimes indifferent.

I was disappointed with the quality of the food and the fact that I was not given a toiletry bag for an overnight international flight

I was disappointed with the quality of the food for an international flight also I wasn't given a toiletry bag which is customary in international flights.

Pretty disappointing. Paid for business class. It was burning up the entire flight. For a 7 hr flight, after the first few hrs. The crew disappeared. Poor service.

You idiots…ITA cancelled our flights one month out and we had to buy new tickets at a much higher price. You stiffed us by not refunding the cost of the insurance. I’ll never buy through Kayak again.

Premium Economy was average for class. Seat comfort was just okay. Crew was attentive. Checkin was fine and moved quickly. Boarding process in Rome was not well organized.

It was horrible the woman next to me was sick and I asked if they would change my seat and they said that they didn’t have any available. I sat next to this women for 9 hour and now I am sick .

We booked and purchase our seats in February for a September flight. We choose seats then also, did the online check in on the app the day before and all was fine. At the airline check in they charged our seats and we were not even sitting together after paying for business class seats. They separated us with no explanation and would not change them back. I was very upset. On the return flight, they tried to put us on standby! When again, we purchased seats in February for this flight. The plane was old and smaller and the business class seats were not comfortable like the flight from NYC. Flight attendants were hard to find once the first meal was served, luckily the flights were smooth.

Not boarding 60 minutes late. after getting bumped to this flight because ITA do not hold a flight for five minutes as the fight to the connection was 45 minutes late

Flight was cancelled and other being told it was cancelled there has been no other contact.

Poor , i missed the next flight to new york . We stayed inside the plane for almost 30 or 40min

Very frustrating trip. From Rome to boston , and i missed the next flight to new york

Everything was fine except the food. They really need to work on the quality of the food.

They are nice personal and as sky silver medaglia member love Delta air and partner
