FAQs - booking Sweden flights

  • Do the airports in Sweden offer children's services?

Yes. Gothenburg Landvetter Airport has a children’s play area located in the International Departure Hall at Gate 19 and in the non-Schengen transit hall, Airside. Stockholm Arlanda International Airport (ARN) has whimsical travel-themed play areas located at Gate 67 of Terminal 2, Gate 31 of Terminal 4, and Gate 3 of Terminal 5, Airside.

  • Which airport should I fly into if I want to visit Tivoli Gardens?

Tivoli Gardens is one of the major attractions in Copenhagen and the nearest airport to it is Copenhagen International Airport (CPH) which receives flights from the US. To get there, you can get on a layover flight from cities like Boston aboard either Play Airlines, Icelandair with JetBlue Airlines, or Tap Air Portugal.

  • Do the airports in Stockholm have wheelchair services?

Stockholm Arlanda International Airport pre-booked offers wheelchair assistance where wheelchair users can be transported from the departure area to the lounges or the pick-up area for their means of transport. Bromma Stockholm Airport (BMA) also provides wheelchair assistance services, accessible washrooms, and handicapped parking spots.

  • Which airport in Sweden is close to Linkoping?

Luckily there is an airport in Linkoping, Sweden that receives flights from the United States. Linkoping City Airport (LPI) receives layover flights from locations in the US like New York, Los Angeles, Boston, and Orlando (MCO) aboard KLM and Delta Airlines operated by KLM Cityhopper with a layover in Amsterdam (AMS).

  • Which airport is closest to Folkets Park?

Folkets Park is the oldest leisure park in Sweden and a top tourist attraction each year. The park is in Malmo City in the county of Skane, so Gothenburg Airport is geographically the closet of the hubs. The drive from there is about 3h via the E20 motorway to the park.

  • How do I get to Linkoping?

The high-tech city of Linkoping is located almost midway between Stockholm and Gothenburg. A drive from Stockholm Airport will be just over 2h while a drive from Gothenburg Airport will be over 3h, so you can drive there or take other ground transportation after your flight from the US to Sweden if you wish to pay a visit.

  • Is a visa necessary to visit Sweden?

A visa is unnecessary if you are a national from the Schengen zone, or if you are from one of the countries (62) that are exempt from visa requirements. Since the US is exempt, no visa is required, and you can stay for a maximum of 90 days within a period of six months.

  • Is there an airport close to Gotland Island?

Yes, there is a major international airport close to Gotland Island. The largest island in Sweden lies not far off the eastern mainland, so both Stockholm-Arlanda Airport and Stockholm-Bromma Airport are within proximity. Though Stockholm-Bromma is closer geographically, you can get daily flights from Stockholm-Arlanda Airport to Visby Airport (VBY).

Top tips for finding cheap flights to Sweden

  • Enter your preferred departure airport and travel dates into the search form above to unlock the latest Sweden flight deals.
  • Travelers flying from the United States to Sweden are most likely to land at Gothenburg Landvetter Airport (GOT) if they’re planning to explore cities like Gothenburg, Lerum, Lindome, Barhult, and Kungalv. This airport has a single passenger terminal with several terminal buildings with the one on the left catering to international services.
  • Upon arrival in Sweden at GOT, travelers can access the lounges to rest as they await transfer services or a connecting flight. The Vinga Lounge located at Gate 18 Airside of the International Terminal and the SAS Lounge located at Gate 16 of the International Terminal Building provide food, beverages, printing, and photocopying services.
  • Flying from the United States to Sweden is easy because there are a number of airlines that have non-stop flights to Sweden cities from different locations in the US like Boston (BOS), Denver (DEN), New York (JFK), Washington (IAD), Los Angeles (LAX), Newark (EWR), and Chicago (ORD). These include Scandinavian Airlines, Air France, SWISS, United Airlines, Lufthansa, and Delta Airlines.
  • If you plan on attending the Stolkholm Early Music Festival which happens in Gotgatan to celebrate Nordic baroque, renaissance, and medieval music that happens annually in the first week of June, book a flight from New York aboard Scandinavian Airlines, or from Chicago aboard Scandinavian Airlines.
  • The law in Sweden states that children shorter than 4 feet and roughly 14 years and below shall use a special protective device to secure them in a car like a baby car seat, child car seat, booster seat, or booster cushion. So make sure to rent child seats as well when renting cars in Sweden or carry your own.
  • The northern European nation of Sweden lies between Norway and Finland and its southern region is the most populous part of the country with several major cities. If your flight from the US to Sweden lands at Gothenburg Landvetter Airport (GOT), you have access to Malmo in the south and Karlstad to the north.
  • If you arrive in the capital city of Stockholm, you’ll land at either Stockholm-Arlanda Airport (ARN) or Stockholm Bromma Airport (BMA). Both of them open the eastern coast of the country, including the cities of Uppsala, Gavle and Umea as well as the islands that inhabit the Gulf of Bothnia.
  • The central region of Sweden encompasses the counties of Jämtlands Lan, Vasternorrlands Lan and Kopparbergs Lan and all three are reachable from the airports in Gothenburg and Stockholm. Alternatively, you can also take a local flight into Östersund Airport (OSD) or consider a flight from Oslo, Norway, which is within proximity.
  • The Swedish county of Norrbottens Lan lies partially within the Arctic Circle. The towns of Jokkmokk, Gallivare and Kiruna are popular destinations for winter sports and if you wish to take in a bit of skiing on your vacation, then hop a local flight from the south to either Lulea Airport (LLA) or Kiruna Airport (KRN).
  • Malmohus Lan represents Sweden’s most southern county and is very close to Denmark. If Stockholm-Arlanda Airport is the destination of your flight from the US to Sweden, you can fly Scandinavian Airlines to Malmo Airport (MMX). It’s also worth considering a flight into Copenhagen, Denmark and then driving from there (about 40m).

I upgraded to first class only to find out that I still had no access to the sky lounge without a sky miles card or AmEx (something that should be emphasized outside of the fine print!) Also, no food or drink service provided during the flight, so I basically paid 4x more just for “free” checked baggage and a bigger seat. Not worth it.

I appreciated friendly service from check-in, to boarding, to in-flight amenities! Attendants were accommodating and helpful. Thank you! Elaine

Delta was really good about being transparent with why we were delayed it’s just that’s the plane was really old and outdated and a lot of the comfort and amenities we know Delta to have did not shine through

Bottom seat cushion is almost non existent. Very uncomfortable seat.

Delta was great the entertainment was outdated. Screen was very small and didn’t work.

Flight did not have seat back entertainment and the wifi was iffy.

Pretty standard flight. Delta has a good selection of movies.

The WiFi has been awful on my last few Delta Air Lines flights.

The seats are uncomfortable, feels like a small seat pad on plywood.

The seats are uncomfortable and there was no power to recharge a phone.

I tried to upgrade to premium economy anis seat online during the checkin process. The payment didn’t work due to a technical glitch on KLM’s website. I wasn’t able to change my seat unless I called Amsterdam. Since I was in Canada and there’s a time difference this wasn’t practical. So when I arrived early to Ottawa airport my seat wasn’t available and I could only get a middle seat in premium economy which isn’t great. These middle seats are priced at the same rate as an aisle seat which makes no sense.

Seats were comfortable crew members support was very good but AVML ordered or selected by us needs a lot of improvement.

Transavia flight, was booked as KLM but i couldnt select seat or access boarding pass with KLM at all. Crammed seating and very no frills experience all around. First and last time.

Transavia flight. Couldn't select seat or anything prior to flight. No connection with klm systems. Seats are very crammed. Extremely no frills.

Seats were nice and comfy. Crew was polite and attentive. Business class is awesome and worth the money.

Flight left a few minutes late, but that's it. I wish the seats could be wider and recline more.

The IFE was quite old, but it worked fine and the content was good. The cabin crew were excellent and the food was as also very good

It’s chaotic at the bus stop outside of the airport because of the Uber meeting point. You need to be alert and look for the KLM bus which is not branded or labeled. Incorrect information was provided to go to gate 28, when in fact the bus was at gate 27. On the plus side the bus left early and arrived early to Ottawa.

Great flight because I upgraded to Premium Comfort. Made a huge difference in the experience.

Good experience, just i couldn’t connect me to the wifi

LAX to Copenhagen was very nice…business class…great service and comfortable seats…great value…Copehagen to Barcelona…business class was normal coach seating…a little cramped…box meal….good service

Had recurring problems with the touch-screen entertainment system repeatedly making up inputs, resulting in the movies randomly jumping forward and backward. With the lack of proper controls, it was also difficult to get back to where the movie was up to. These phantom inputs were so comprehensive that the system even changed the language setting. Despite a schedule 6.25pm boarding time, it was announced in the Delta lounge at 6.15pm that boarding for the flight had started, so of course everything started to head down. While the gate continued to show a scheduled boarding of 6.25pm, it was 6.32pm before boarding actually started. No, not significantly different, and we ultimately ended up landing well before time (and landing time is arguably more important than exactly when boarding starts). Seat comfort was fine, although only a small nook for personal items, food was satisfying for me, and crew was pleasant.

Staff was fine. But plane offers very few free services.

Entertainment system caused delay. But order was restored within one-hour into the flight. Service was good.

I did not go. I rebooked my ticket. Despite that you keep sending me emails and now this survey about a trip that you should know by now did not happen. Very bad, impersonal customer service. Shows you have no idea what's going on with your customers and that you're just spamming with automated, careless communications

Flight delayed 3 hours 45 minutes. Connecting flight changed. Would have missed cruise ship. Had to cancel return flight, because we couldn't just cancel flight to Nice.

Pilot made us late 45 minutes with no explanation, missed our connection, they didn’t care

The flights from EWR to Stockholm and from Copenhagen to JFK were great. Love everything from SAS

First off, numerous things were misrepresented. When we purchased the Economy Plus tickets the fare allegedly includes access to lounge. At Logan Airport where the signs points to, there is no longer SAS lounge. We were directed to Delta lounge, which is located at the other end of the terminal. When we got there, Delta reps told us that it is for SAS business class passengers only. The advertised seat selection 30 hrs prior to departure did not work online. When I called SAS, they told me that it was more than 30 hrs before our connecting flight in Copenhagen, although it was less than 30 hrs before the departure for Copenhagen. Customer service representatives would not provide any assistance. The tray table in my seat was not fully unfolding to be able to place the food tray on it. Therefore, I had to keep it on my laps.

It was a rather short flight. The meal given was a sandwich which did not look appealing at all. Unlike other European airlines, SAS did not leave the middle seat empty for the higher fare paying customers. Luckily since the flight was light, I could move to another row with no other passenger.

Icelandair flight was excellent. The checkin and security arrangements for Saga Premium passengers at Newark was very poor - our checkin opened much later than the normal and our security queue simply led us to the back of the normal queue. Someone was having a laugh surely!

Never took flight. See previous comment on trip from Boston to Reykjavik. Used a different airline that i had to find and book.

The flight was on time and the crew was nice. I did not like the fact that my husband and I were seated in different rows. I feel pressured by airlines to pay more to choose our seats. We will sit anywhere, but we shouldn't have to pay to sit together. I also think they should serve at least a snack that's free.

One of the worst airlines I ever flew. Boarding is a disaster, they are always late, the planes are overly crowded. Everyone on my flight lost their connection because they were 2h late. Reykjavik is also not the best airport out there.

My only area of issue was the flight was rather warm and the knobs for cool air didn't allow much cool air to come through. Everything else was great.

Been travelling for 2mo. And when you meet flight Attendants that love their jobs you can just tell. And makes flying with them worth another flight in the future!!

Everything was great! My only critique is 25 euro for wifi is wild, but I get it

Easy check in and boarding. Staff pleasant and helpful. Will continue to fly with Iceland air. Aircraft clean

Did not like last minute change to our itinerary that made us spend the night in the airport

We had to be bussed to the plane. And it was raining. Not a pleasant experience.

No fast track available, no organisation. Unpleasant boarding system at gate 20 at JFK. When giving feedback to the lounge team I was told to talk to the manager instead of taking the feedback.

The whole experience was great. The only improvement would be the entertainment selection

Flight attendant kept banging her cart into my aisle seat. Hard. Couldn’t lean seat back. Should be warned of limitations when booking seat

I will travel by BA only in future also. Only suggestion is they should give aisle seat in front near washroom for senior citizens

Economy extremely cramped. Dinner was not good. Breakfast was quite good. Crew was excellent.

It was good overall. Entertainment was ok, one of the TV screens had issue. Bit old plane but leg space was good. Overhead luggage had good space. The worst part was experience at Heathrow airport, it was total chaos.

Comfortable, pleasant staff, quiet, good entertainment, food, drinks. Better than American (flight back) when we were crammed in and staff sometimes indifferent.

I was disappointed with the quality of the food and the fact that I was not given a toiletry bag for an overnight international flight

I was disappointed with the quality of the food for an international flight also I wasn't given a toiletry bag which is customary in international flights.

Pretty disappointing. Paid for business class. It was burning up the entire flight. For a 7 hr flight, after the first few hrs. The crew disappeared. Poor service.
