lovely rooms, good power shower, really nice place
Probably the nicest hotel in Agia Galini. Very nice room with an astonishing view. Very nice breakfast. Very friendly and helpful owners No cooking equipment provided in the apartment
Stunning views. The rooms are simple but well decorated. The place where it is located is really nice. I booked for 3 night through booking.com but couldn't make the three days together so had to do 2 different reservations with two different rooms and differents prices. The most expensive room was not available so we were given a room for the 3 nights, which was great so that we didn't have to move. I didn't like that we were charged two prices: 95€ and 75€ for the same room. Very unfair!!
The location & view from the pool is excellent & the staff were very friendly Bed was quite hard but the staff provided additional softer mattresses. The lighting in the bathroom was a bit harsh & uncomplimentary!
Good standard of fittings in the room, including good shower which we have found to be rare in Crete. Good location with great view and close to restaurant area of Agia Galini. Relatively small room with little sound insulation.
We loved the palazzo greco. It is a fantastic new hotel. Stylish and total clean rooms, an amazing designer bathroom!!! The breakfast fast not that big but ok. (Bread, jam, honey, cereals, cheese, ham, tomatoes, eggs, cake, melon, fresh juice, milk and coffee) The room had a new small kitchen with dishes and refrigerator. The pool was nice, too. The best hotel in agia galini The air conditioning was not working really good. It was slow and not very cold.
Noisy hotel, rooms dirty, bed never done but the breakfast was good and the staff a bit kind
The rooms were brightly decorated, the staff were extremely friendly and the location was perfect. Just a short walk to the beach and restaurants. The kitchenette could have been stocked slightly better. There was not enough cutlery for two people to eat. Nor were there utensils for the fryingpan. A toaster would have been nice.
it's a normal hotel with a beautiful view Not so good price/quality ratio.
The Palazzo Grecco was a beautiful hotel. It was a pleasure to stay there. The room was delightful with matching furniture and the standard of cleanliness excellent. The view from our room was spectacular. There was nothing about the Hotel we did not like during our stay, the only improvements we would suggest if that it would have nice to have some more comfortable chairs to enjoy the view from our terrace, and it would have been nice to have been able to buy drinks and snacks.
Layout of the resort and atmosphere were excellent, reception staff and entertainment staff very good, the location is very scenic. Lovely pools, great for children, and wonderful swimming in the cove. Enjoyed the spa and even the gym facilities. Everything was clean and well maintained. The food was not very good quality and the buffet offer was quite repetitive. Chicken wings, liver and tongue for one evening meal. Fruit at dinner limited to melon all week. We were happy to go out for dinner.
Position, location, facilities Staff were not welcoming. We felt out of place and believe we were the only Brits there! On arrival, initially we had a few problems with the room and facilities and these were not dealt with properly. I would not recommend this hotel for a lone couple. A group may be welcome though?
amazing place and location, very tastefully done, interesting architecture and layout of resort, swimming pools overlooking the sea and surrounded by mountains. just beautifully done in an amazing location. wish i had planned more time to stay there !!!!!
vVisited Plakias the staff did what they have to do and nothing more
The room was well designed but the bathroom smelt really bad making the whole studio smell musty and mouldy. We sneezed and coughed all night
Location of the hotel is fabulous, isolated but of outstanding natural beauty, albeit difficult access without own transport. Children liked the animation programme in particular. It is an 80s construction which apparently has been neglected for a while, that is to say the whole complex needs a bit of refreshing. Although the variety of food was remarkable we did not approve of the higher-than-average use of tinned fruits, vegetable, and juices - especially not as this is Crete!
The facility is great, access to sea and walkways were excellent. The music one night was too loud & lasted too long.
Location, location, location. It was very quiet and was very pleasant for going for a walk, staying at the pool or swimming in the deep crystal clear waters. The fact that the bed sheets are changed every other day (I assume that is not a characteristic of a 4-star (out of 5) hotel as you have rated it in your website) and the room towels every third day (unless the cleaning crew thinks they are dirty (these are the words the receptionist used)-in that case they will change them every other day. However, we requested them to be changed after staying two nights and they were changed immediately.
The view is spectacular. Breakfast buffet offers a wide variety, one of the best we've had. This hotel may have once been 4 stars but no longer. The older gentleman at the reception is a disrespectful, arrogant individual who should be fired. However, the rest of the reception staff was quite helpful. We received the room and it was clearly unclean (used towels, unemptied bathroom trash can containing filthy toilet paper, unchanged bed linens, bed side table with sticky residue if you know what I mean i.e. bring your own UV lamp). One morning, we were in the room when the cleaning ladies appeared. They basically only swept the floor. We had to ask the front desk for clean towels. The old reception guy asked the other desk clerk to deal with us because he couldn't care less. Many other negatives but no more space to write!
repeting drainage problems trying to avoid receiving credit card no food after 21:30 and poor coffee
Breakfast Buffet Pool Clean Linens Would have preferred a double bed, Not two single side-by-side. (Asked for a double in the reservation).
Great value for money, extremely inexpensive yet included pool and breakfast and good size room.
very nice budget accommodations. Very clean room and grounds, great pool. Brekkie was included in our price...was decent but nothing special. Wifi good but works only in eating and pool area. Not right by the beach but only a about a 1/2 a km, 7 or 8 minute walk. Matala is really awesome
Quiet, convenient for the town on foot, well organised, clean towels everyday, clean bed linen every 2 days, very pleasant, helpful and efficient owner. The bathroom. The floor had to be permanently wet as the shower tray had no curtain/door. The washbasin tap was high and so running water bounced into the basin and out on to the lavatory, which was also permanently wet! Water heated by solar power, so if no sun no hot water. We were lucky 6 out of 7 days. This is Greece!
This hotel was perfect. The staff was friendly and accommadating. The hotel was a short walk to town and the beach. The room was comfortable.
Great location, a few minutes walk from the centre. Good breakfast, and lovely pool area. Room and bathroom clean but dated, but for such a good price it didnt really matter! Hard to find on the way into Matala, but a sign is visible as you exit the village. The turning is opposite the Matala Bay Hotel.
The hotel is just a 6 min walk from the town of Matala & the lovely tavernas & shops selling traditional Greek goods & art. The hotel supplies a great breakfast inc.coffee/tea, juice, bread, eggs, spreads & yogurt etc. The pool is great & ideal for kids as it has a shallow end (3 feet) & a deep end (6 feet) plus a childs pool alongside. The room is perfect & has a lovely large patio area with tables & chairs where you can relax before going out in the evening. The rooms are clean and tidy, with a fridge/freezer, tv & safe. Perfect location for exploring Crete as you can hire a car & take the left (lovely), or right coastal routes or drive North and explore inland. No complaints at all and am ready to book for September 2011. We had to leave :( but we will be back next year :)
We like the location, The pool is very clean, also the room was very comfortable
The room was large and spotless. There is a new small swimming pool by the building, where breakfast is served. I think for this rate we couldn' t have found anything close to better...
Very nice white wine bottle included!
Good Pool and Location to the town / beach The budget rooms were terrible. I only stayed one night instead of the two I had booked and moved elsewhere.
The budget rooms are abusively advertised as being in a 3 stars hotel. Hostile management: they hold the clients' passports until the check-out to be sure they get the money, although they have the credit card details - is it legal in Greece?
The hotel looked ok but the Budget room did not worth the 70 euros. It was unacceptable!
Fabulous location and excellent value for money. The pool was magic!
It was a very nice hotel. Very very helpful staff. Very clean and great value for money.
I went to Greece with a group of eight young professionals. We took a week to tour the islands. It was our cheapest hotel we stayed in on our trip, but the nicest. The villas are so cute with modern interior. I would totally recomend this place.
- Pool was always very clean - quite room - in walking distance to village center with nice restaurants
Our bungalow was spacious, clean and ready and made for an enjoyable stay. Bathroom had both lovely bathtub as well as shower compartment. Fixtures were modern and there was tons of storage space. The family members, especially Dimitrios were really warm and welcoming and did everything they could to make us comfortable. Unfortunately, we were the first clients of the season, and they really weren't ready for us. They were filling swimming pools, and construction workers were all over the village. Also, no food or drink available at that time, although we were able to get breakfast.
Great value for money, clean, next to the beach. All rooms have a/c and balcony. Some rooms don't have refrigerators, as advertised. Pool sometimes gets dirty and is not cleaned frequently enough. Some bathrooms don't have a separate shower and can thus get messy when showering.
The room was actually quite nice, swimming pool rather small but clean and well maintained. The beach, shops, parking and restaurants are just a few steps from the door, so great location. Personnel is friendly and helpful, though always in a passive way rather than active. Once you ask they will try their best to help, but problems are sometimes ignored until brought to their attention. But maybe this is a general Greek thing ;) For the rest great value for money: not to expect too much, but good for what it is. Minor point is the shower that has no water screen or wall around it, flooding the bathroom time and again. There is a drain but most of the water never gets there. Breakfast is quite basic, maybe at least some variation would be good. Also the airco was not very reliable, but this might have been due to regular electricity problems on the island.
The strongest point of this hotel is that located a few steps from the sea. Cleanliness is an issue for this hotel, especially the smell. A small renovation will improve a lot the total image of the hotel.
Breakfast was not worth havingEveryone smokes (but this is Greece)
swimming pool. Near the beach just to sleep
It was just what I wanted, right by the beach and the room had a balcony looking over the sea. The room was spacious with a spacious bathroom. The hotel is clean and has a swimming pool and a pleasant snack bar. Excellent value for money.
was very cental area, very spacious rooms the rooms very old ,not too clean, bathroom very old,bed not comfortable, breakfast poor with only orange juice and jam!
Great location, right on the beach and free sunbeds if you eat at the hotel (just an omelette or breakfast qualifies). Also pool available, with free sunbeds. All a bit tired and shabby, but for the price no real complaints. If you want tea/coffee you need to bring your own travel kettle, and ice bags/tray for the fridge.
Situation of hotel bathroom
comfortable,silens, nice place
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel, but mostly we liked the friendly staff, which made us feel comfortable, the breakfast terrace, and the location- Plakias- nice place to have a rest.
Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable of the town and surrounding areas. They recommended a fantastic resturant ("Gio-Ma") which we went to every night, it was that good! Room was very large, comfortable, clean and newly renovated with a small balcony overlooking the sea. Breakfast is included in the price and is excellent with a selection of meats, fruit, cheese, bread and spreads, eggs, juices and coffee. We would definitely stay here again! Bathroom had a strange smell but we realised this was a common feature of many Crete hotels and not specific to Hotel Sofia.
We enjoyed the central, but quiet location. It was not easy to park the car in front of the hotel, we had to park on the seafront (very close, though)
Welcomed by Costas the owner. Rooms very clean, modern, comfortable and quiet even though overlooking the street.Good buffet breakfast. Very convenient location. Friendly and helpful staff. A very good experience staying here.
Nice Hotel, very clean, very quiet.A nice place for someone how wants to relax.Easy access to the beach,to the taverns and the stores. The breakfast was good. The staff was very nice and kind. The room wasn't ready by the time we got there (about 14:10) but some time later.
The friendliness, warm welcome, locality, extreme helpfulness from owners, hospitality, surroundings - superb place to stay. The fact that it was family run made all the difference as it was more personal. Perhaps if we need to give negative, although the shower was adequate it was very small.
Nice pool area Located a short walk from beach and town
Excellent price / quality: cosy hotel, friendly staff, clean rooms, good breakfast buffet.
Nice sized rooms, good location and services.
10 points for 3 persons in a 60-euro room, 20 euros per person. Simple, but everything is there, the beach 3 minute-walk away. I would also like to mention that the ceilings in the rooms were high, I like that. We got the sea, the sun and a different breakfast every day for that price!
quiet, friendly athmosphere
Sunningdale Hotel is a quiet place close to the beach, within walking distance (15 min) of the center of Agia Galini. The surroundings were a bit smelly, especially in the morning on the terrace while we were having breakfast. The room with "sea view" is not worth the extra money!
The hotel itself is fairly basic by U.S. standards -- but the owner's hospitality (and wonderful breakfast) made the stay. The hotel is in a quiet area just a few minutes walk from the beach and a 10 minute walk to town where there are great places to eat and shop. We were there too early in the season (early April) for the pool to be open and the free internet was down the day we were there.
The owner Vasili was so welcoming and kind. This was our first night in Crete and nothing was too much trouble for him. He was a perfect host and looked after us very well and told us a lot about the area and surroundings.
Nice atmosphere, sweet owners, beautiful garden, breakfast is served in a beautiful veranda in the garden, very nice traditional-style decoration. It is a perfect place if you are looking for a simple, sweet, small, family owned place for relaxing holidays. Only very basic hotel facilities are available but everything you find there, is well-cared.
Good value basic small hotel. Clean room and fairly good continental breakfast. Ideal location for the restaurants and shops of this small charming town. Friendly German manager. Was able to park free right outside hotel. Glad we stayed port side of town rather than beach side as far more restaurants and shops near the port. Not very good views as bigger buildings accross the road block out most of the sea view. Steep paths and steps down to to centre of village/town. Would probably select a hotel with a better view if visit village again.
Room well furnished with characteristic elements. Beautiful little terrace. Direction very kind and helpful. Good breakfast.
lovely family-run hotel in a very small village on the sea, very friendly and helpful staff, careful on details. Free parking, wifi, beach, sunbeds and umbrellas. Perfect for family in need of total relax and nothing to do apart for staying on the beach, lots of regular customers from central/northern Europe. At 45 eur/night is unbeatable! not so easy to find, follow Kalamaki and then the hotel is well indicated once you get to the village. Its main advantage could also be a problem: it's calm and relaxing but there's nothing around and you have to be motorized.
On the beach, friendly staff Room standard could be slighly better but clean and nice views from balcony
The breakfasts and the service The noise of some insects (chicharras) during the morning
The location cclose to the beach is superb. The hotel was maintained to a good condition and rooms were clean and well kept. The breakfast was excellent and it was great to eat it in view of the sea. Only one lady spoke English and in her absence communication was not easy.
We loved everything about the hotel! The family who runs this place is very friendly and helpful. It is virtually by the beach and thanks to Kalamaki localization The only thing you hear when going to sleep is the sea. Breakfest is good, rooms are very clean. We will surely come back to Alexander's next time we go to Crete.
Beach with free sunbeds just in front the hotel or if you prefere in 5 minutes you can walk along the sea in a "wild" sandy beach. Breakfast is very good, served in a nice terrace in front to the sea. Staff is very friendly. Rooms are large and nice (bat for the double bed that is blocked in an angle of the room). Easy private parking. Very near to interesting archeological sites. In the area strong winds can blow. In case you have to drive 10km to Matala or to other more protected beaches.
Good value for money. Excellent breakfast. Friendly staff. Good position next to a large beach. Quiet location in a small resort.
Very pleasant, quiet surroundings, excellent service. For a peaceful vacation. Equipment appropriate category hotel.
Very friendly staff. Nice, clean rooms. We were lucky to get a room on top of the roof, which gave us access to the whole roof as terrace. The position of the hotel towards the rest of Kalamaki is very good, it's the best position you can find in the village, a little bit away from the boulevard where with one hotel beside the other. Next to the hotel there is a Taverna called "Marina" which serves the best (home made) food of the village. The beach is right across the (not very much frequented) street. Although the breakfast buffet was acceptable for this type of hotel I would have liked a bit more variation and especially a real orange juice instead of the sweet "nectar" you get in to many hotels around the world.
Very good quality-price rate. Very clean.
